Guestbook comments from the owner

It was a great honeymoon!

We loved the cottage, and had quite a bit of success hitchhiking around the island. We loved the local people and we hope to come back!

Wow! Beyond expectations!

  • 5 of 5

Overly impressed! Very clean, perfect size, AC worked amazing, and everything you need was stocked there, down to have a small cooler and beach chairs even. Mini kitchen was great, back patio with grill, etc. I have stayed on STJ many times but this place, by far, is the best value for the money. Thank you for a great stay and next time we come it will be here! Thanks again!

Lovely little gem, great location, cute and comfortable.

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved staying here! The owner welcomed us upon arrival, assuring us of his availability if we needed anything. Honestly, we didn't need a thing, though. The cottage is in a great quite location, away from town, but not too far. The cottage has everything you need to cook meals, relax, and get a great night's sleep for days busy with exploring. The best part was hearing the frogs and critters outside at night with all the windows open. The bed was comfy, shower was great, and we could not have asked for a better experience for our stay in St. John. Don't waste money on more expensive hotels or even privately owned homes. This place is perfection.

Enjoyable Honeymoon Stay-Cay while on St John

  • 5 of 5

Coqui cottage is a great place to call home while staying on St John. My wife and I were on honeymoon and enjoyed every aspect of our stay. The listing description is accurate but the title is a little misleading as walking surrounding hills is a chore. However, there's a nice beach with breaker waves down a few roads away (Marina to end of Reef Bay Rd).

Dwelling: Clean, comfortable, and private

The cottage is studio but doesn't feel too small. Walk-in, indoor shower with hot water was great. Kitchen is small but adequate for preparing home cooked meals. We used BBQ grill, outdoor patio to relax in morning and evenings and covered table was nice under hot mid-day sun.

Owners: Ray is very kind, hospitable and willing to help with various requests (wifi, phone, towels, etc.)

There are nearby houses but surrounding noise was very low - the neighbors were easy going and friendly. Lots of chirping birds, tiny lizards, beautiful flowers and abundant foliage are all around.

Be sure to check the maps or bring GPS as it's a little hard to find. We had a Jeep 4wd which accessed steep driveway and rocky entrance well - recommend over a car but is also doable. I wouldn't suggest bus or taxi for this base for traveling the island as it's remote - but that was a positive for us. Comparing other places and prices, we both would recommend to our family and friends.

Nice little place in the jungle

  • 4 of 5

This place made a good base in the jungle for our adventures in the Caribbean. You do feel as if you are in a tree house in the jungle due to the location on the side of a steep hill that places you at the level of the canopy of the forest below, there is, fittingly, a ton of wildlife to be seen and heard.

While this was overall, enjoyable accommodations, we did have a few quibbles, which migh be more important for some:

Wi-Fi signal, and our (AT&T) cell signal was quite weak, had to go outside to get a good signal for either, though positioning your phone just right did provide a signal indoors. A Wi-Fi repeater placed by the window in the cottage facing the main house could solve the Wi-Fi problem.

We did also find it just a bit noisy at times, due to music, etc, coming from nearby (though hardly visible) homes, and the surprisingly loud sounds from the aforementioned wildlife, though we didn't really mind the latter. This problem could have been abated by closing the windows and turning on the A/C, though we chose not to.

Finally, there was an unfinished and slightly overgrown foundation adjacent and also some rebar protruding from the cottage itself, if that sort of thing bothers you, it didn't us. Also, if you'll likely find this fairly common on the U.S.V.I.

Overall we were satisfied with our stay and would consider staying again.

Finally a tip: you probably don't truly need a 4x4 here, unless it rains a LOT, but a 2 door Jeep or similar is really the best way to get around, as the roads on this island are incredibly steep and twisty. We rented a ratty "old" Wrangler soft top, with missing side and rear windows, on St. Thomas, which served us quite well.

Enjoy, future guests!

Easy Comfort

  • 5 of 5

This cute little home was perfect for my husband and I for our five night stay on St John. It had everything that we needed to be self sufficient and comfy. Kitchen was adequate with a 2 burner stove . Only one was working for us but I am sure that Ray will have that remedied. The wifi signal was not too strong but adequate and we stayed connected to our black screens. Do not go there to watch television - but you shouldn't be there for that reason anyway! We visited every bay and beach and Coqui Cottage was the perfect home base anyone could ask for! A five minute drive to Cruz Bay. Ray had beach chairs and small cooler for us to use each day on our excursions. Highly recommend.

Secluded, charming cottage

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is tucked away behind some tall trees uphill from Fish Bay and so it is very relaxing and quiet. The cottage had everything we needed and could have wanted. It is so nice that the hosts provided beach chairs, an ice chest and noodles to take to the beaches. If you stay here, you may want to consider renting a car on St. Thomas, purchasing bulk items at the Tutu mall or Food Center on St. Thomas and taking the car ferry over. The Starfish market on St. John, which is along the road to the cottage, also has a fine selection of food. After spending the day at the beach or hiking, happy hour at Joe's Rum Bar or another place in Cruz Bay or in Coral Bay, driving out to the cottage (10 minutes or so from Cruz Bay) and coming home to such a comfortable, quiet place is the perfect ending to a perfect day! And then, be sure to spend some time on the patio star gazing. We don't think we have ever seen so many stars. Truly amazing!!!
