My husband, myself, and our dog stayed at the chalet for a week in mid-October. It was the retreat we were looking for! The chalet was clean and had lots of nice little touches. The wood stove was probably everyone's favorite feature, including the dog! It was so nice and toasty on the cold and rainy day! The chalet was proximal to many of the things we wanted to do. We went to Mackinac Island (probably a 20m drive to the ferry). Leg's Inn was fantastic. We got there the week before they shut down for the season. We also ventured down to Petoskey and Charlevoix (check out the mushroom houses) and Pond Hill Farm. Driving along the coast on the tunnel of trees was so nice too! We'll definitely try to go back in the future!
We loved staying at Sylvia's 'chalet' and are already missing it! When you drive up you're immediately taken by its sheer charm. Then, when you walk in and smell the wood burning fire place and see such a well decorated cabin that is so clean, it just made the trip all the more perfect. It really is hard to find a true 'up north' feeling cottage that is clean and I was super pleased with the state of the cottage. The kitchen has everything you'd need...really pleased with the amenities.
We are a family of four with two young kids and they thought the upstairs was the 'coolest' thing ever. It definitely could've fit another kid or two if you had a larger group. We had a great time exploring the property, relaxing and taking day trips around the various towns. Beaches are very close by and we tried three of them, our favorite was Church Beach off of Lamkin, although the town beach was fun for rock gathering and the state park beach was also a favorite. Pond Hill is always a favorite and their food is really good so go there even if you aren't into feeding the animals or doing squash rockets:) The cabin was so quiet and peaceful and gave us a great family vacation before the busy school season starts. We can't wait to come back and we'd definitely recommend it!
We spent 5 nights at the chalet. It's very quiet and relaxing. We spent lots of time on the back deck watching hummingbirds at the feeder. The chalet itself had everything we needed, including wifi. We didn't have service with Verizon, so that was nice. It's very clean with a nice shower and plenty of fluffy towels. The kitchen had everything we needed; definitely more than we usually see at rentals. The bed was comfy, as was the living room seating. We spent a day biking near Petoskey on the Wheelway, we went to Mackinac for a day, visited friends at Walloon Lake, beached at Sturgeon Bay. You must have dinner at Legg's Inn. We also very much enjoyed dinner at Moose Jaw Junction and lunch at Pond Hill Farm. My husband is vegetarian and all 3 places had a variety of offerings for him. The owner of the chalet, Sylvia, was very response to any questions we had. Thanks for making the chalet available, Sylvia!
We come every year to "unplug" from the world. It is just perfect for me and my husband. Our dog actually loves it as much as we do. It is his one week of freedom! We take lots of walks and enjoy nature. The location is ideal as it is close to the tunnel of trees, the beach and you can easily to go Mackinaw Island or Harbor Springs for day-trips. Pond Mill Farms is worth the trip as well! The wi-fi was recently added so I am not as unplugged as I used to be, but that is up to me! The convenience of wi-fi is nice. The accommodations are very comfortable. There is no a/c, but not needed, the chalet stays pretty cool. We can't wait to go back.
I spent four days at this chalet in the woods near Cross Village. It is a wonderful, tastefully decorated place with a complete kitchen. The weather was a bit cold and windy but I was very comfortable in the cabin. A soft easy chair made for a fine place to read, listen to music, and write in my journal. I had one Polish dinner at Legs Inn and enjoyed a couple of delicious pot pies from Good Hart General Store. One lovely, hilly hike on the North Country Trail in Wilderness State Park was a good way to enjoy the fall colors. But returning back to this special A-frame was always special. I hope to return for another visit. This would be a great escape for couples or a solo like me.
What a beautiful chalet with so many great little touches. It feels like you're a million miles away, but are just a couple of minutes from Cross Village with a great public beach. Being able to take the dogs with us on vacation made it just that much better. We will be back!!
Cross Village is one of the oldest settlements in Michigan. Still captures the essence of Ojibwya and Old Mission histories. Three Pines Art Gallery features local indigenous art in Cross Village. Legs Inn is also an Historical marker. A very pristine environment, Clear Water,Sandy Beaches, Clean Skies and Green Forests. An International Dark Sky Facilities is located in Wilderness State Park just 7 miles north of Cross Village.
