About Nicolas

Trying to take care of my surroundings, I've been upgrading this property since it's acquisition, implementing solar panels to heat the hot water, radiant flooring system, rain water recuperation, and building and driving my electric car.

Nicolas purchased this apartment in 2002

Why Nicolas chose Montreal

Location, location....

What makes this apartment unique

This is a quiet neighborhood where it's nice to spend time on the terrace. Being partly among the trees, you forget how close to downtown you really are. If you like the outdoors, we've got the biggest playground just a minute away: The lachine Canal and it's bike path.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"it felt like home away from home. the landlord is very friendly and helpful. the furniture and the kitchen were great. located somewhat away from downtown, metro station within 10 min walking distance. we really enjoyed our stay."

St. Henri - Montreal

  • 4 of 5

Apartment was clean and had all the amenities we required, in suite laundry was nice. Quiet area with easy access to bus service slightly farther to Metro stations. As it was winter we did not get to enjoy the terrace which looks quite nice. Lots of restaurants in area and local store for your basics and wine/beer. We travel to Montreal 3-4 times a year and would consider staying here again. Nicholas did allow us to bring our dog (5# chihuahua). Only drawback was neighbour is heavy smoker and at times we could smell it from adjoining apartment.

Owner's Response: We dont get a lots of comments about the smoke, maybe because we mainly rent in the summer ,but it does come back from time to time, so a number of measures have been taken over the years to deal with this issue. Among them, an openable window was installed above the common door to get air in, weather striping was installed on both apartment doors, and a vaporiser was installed in the stair case. Unfortunately, at the time of the visit, (Winter) The stairwell window was kept closed to keep the warmth in due to cold weather, and the vaporizer was malfunctioning (dead batteries). Some new seals have been installed on the apartment door since the visit.

Cozy, and short walk to Metro

  • 4 of 5

It was our first time in Montreal and Aux Magarites provided a cozy place from which to explore it, with a short morning walk to Metro stop Place St Henri, retuning in the evenings, stopping by the IGA supermarket on the way. Also many options for food and drink on Rue Notre Dame (our favorite meal was at Lavigne).

It proved to be a perfect place for us, we felt at home and comfortable, and would definitely return, given the chance. Merci beaucoup Nicolas!

Good location

  • 4 of 5

The apartment had lots of room and the necessary amenities for my wife and I and our adult daughter. The little deck was a treasure, great for having breakfast, escaping the sun on a hot afternoon, and sipping wine with a little chocolate on a sultry evening. The neighbourhood was interesting with several restaurants within walking distance, and an IGA nearby to get groceries. It was a similar distance to the Metro station making it easy to get to other parts of Montreal. Only 2 blocks from the Lachine Canal to access walking and biking trails (just a couple blocks more to get to a BIXI bike rental station).

2nd stay here...

  • 5 of 5

We returned to this unit after such a positive experience last year. Nicolas continues to deliver a nice unit and is spectacular to work with as an owner. He has a fully equiped unit, maps/brochures to help with tourism questions, etc. Unit is very comfortabe and the terrace is lovely in the summer. Only caveat is that this year I had a back injury so the stairs and high-sided bathtub was troublesome as a result. Nice location with a pleasant walk to the Metro or local awesome bakery. Many restaurants in walking distance as well. Great value and if we ever return to Montreal we will once again stay here.

Nice Place to Call Home for a Week

  • 4 of 5

The apartment is quite large for two people and has a balcony that is accessible via the kitchen door.

We liked that we could walk every evening along the La Chine Canal - don't pass up the opportunity to get a brew and

something to eat at Terrasse St Ambrose.

The Metro is a short walk away, even with a rolling suitcase it was easy. We would advise getting a Metro pass - 3 days or a week - depending on your

length of stay. For example, even though Atwater Market is fairly close we actually preferred going to the Jean Talon Market.

With all there is to see in Montreal, it took us awhile to actually look around the neighborhood of the apartment. It is worth it to check out the shops/restaurants along Rue Notre-Dame.

Nicolas was very helpful and helped with any problems (very few) - and because of the high temperatures the week we were there, the air conditioner

came in handy.

Another gem in Montreal

  • 3 of 5

Atwater market, friendly restautants, lachine canal, a folk festival....what else can one ask for? This area of Montreal is laid back and family oriented.

Having stayed at apts in Old Port, Plateau and Little Italy over the past 6 years, we decided to explore .St Henri. Upon arriving I was a bit put off by the graffiti and overall mood of the area but walking a few blocks in any direction yielded pleasant surprises.

The apt was clean and servicable. Nicolas is an accomodating host. As other reviewers have remarked the bed is very comfortable. The claw foot tub while charming might be a challenge for some. The kitchen is well equipped and with atwater nearby cooking at home was a delight.

Overall a nice stay and I recommend this apt. Thank you, Nicolas.
