I handle the business & marketing side from the background whereas my Property Manager does all the hard work. Our guests really appreciate his efforts and makes a note of it in the reviews.
The Owner purchased this house in 1990
I chose to convert my home into a vacation rental based on demand in the DC market.
I believe you will feel very comfortable. It feels like a home away from home.
WOW. Nice quiet row house near the Capital. Blocks from the Metro and grocery store. The house was clean and well equipped with linens, utensils, and paper supplies. We booked for a week, and we had 2 couples. The 3 BR and 2.5 baths gave room and privacy for all. I loved the Spanish/Mediterranean section of the house with the two story skylight. We never needed Sherman, but always felt that he was just a quick phone call away. We WOULD stay there again! We DO recommend it!!!!
We had 7 of us staying in the house, and wanted somewhere with a kitchen that felt like a home and not a hotel. We were not disappointed! The house was clean, comfortable, well equipped, and provided plenty of space for us to spread out and relax (we did have to use futons and airbeds). We liked that it was not far from downtown- an easy bus ride to the Capitol Hill area, Walmart and other grocery stores, and a short walk to the train station. We had groceries delivered to the house as well- would highly recommend this! We never met Sherman but he was always available by phone to answer questions. We had a great time and would recommend this house to anyone!
We are a family of 6 from Canada and stayed in this property for 3 nights. The property actually looks better than the listing photos. Its clean and spacious, located in a quiet street and the neighbors are friendly. Its about 15 mins drive to the Capitol and other popular attractions. We would definitely recommend this property.
We were visiting for my daughter college graduation. The kitchen was well stocked. I didn't hear complaints on beds so I presume they were comfortable. I slept on futon that wasn't especially comfortable bur not too bad for a few nights. We were not able to locate part of one of the air mattresses, the other mattress worked fine. One of the eyes on the stove may need attention. Temperature was comfortable. Made one foot trip to Harris Teeter grocery store early Sunday without incident. For the price I'd say the value was fairly average and would consider in the future if needed since we'd be familiar. Parks within walking distance.
Nice place in a nice neighborhood. The manager was always available if we needed him. Not skimpy on supplies (such as linens and toilet paper) We couldn't park 2 rather large vehicles in the back, so we parked one on the street and ended up getting a parking ticket one day. Also, a rather long walk to the Metro. We enjoyed our visit overall.
A group of 9. We had a great stay at The Bates. Good accommodations, fully equipped, clean, off street parking available and/or on street parking pass, easy access to downtown by subway or driving. As other reviews mentioned, the area may look intimidating at first for out of towners, but we found it very safe. Sherman was great to deal with, very responsive, and always available. Would recommend it!!!!
