The cottage is historic--originally a traditional Pennsylvania field-stone schoolhouse dating from the late Federal Period. It is the first of the seven one-room schoolhouses built in Rockland Township. From the 19th century until the 1950s, it was a fully-functioning country school. The schoolhouse was converted to a residence in the 1960s, but retains much of its original architecture and appointments, as well as a majestic catalpa tree planted to provide shade for the school children.
Friendly art historian/designer. Born and raised in Asia, I love international design and traditional folk arts, which is why my spaces are eclectic, decorated in European, Pan-Asian, and Moroccan styles. One of the main reasons I like sharing my spaces is because, in this way, I am also sharing experiences and beauty I have encountered while traveling.
Elizabeth Gittings purchased this house in 1983
Peaceful... with spectacular landscape views and surroundings. More than anything else, the beauty and serenity of the cottage and its natural setting refresh the senses and mind.
Relaxation, wellness, refreshing!
We had a wonderful time, enjoyed every minute of our stay! I highly recommend staying at this cottage. It was beautiful, clean, quaintly decorated conveniently located for lots of sightseeing. While we were there we visited Gettysburg, Philadelphia, Hershey, and NYC. We also took time to site see around town visiting the places mapped out for us by the owners of the cottage. Fleetwood and the surrounding area is beautiful and the people are so friendly and welcoming. We also appreciated the bottle of wine and homemade cookies and strawberries that were left for us when we arrived. I am ready to book another stay!
The cottage was completely as advertised. It is a wonderfully secluded get away. Quaint and the music system was great. Perfect for peace and quiet.
This was our 2nd time staying and all I can say is that it was just as great as our first stay. Elizabeth is so easy to deal with. She suggested a massage and that the person would come to the cottage! I booked it. The massage was done upstairs and I thought it was very good.
When we go, we do nothing but read, hang outside with our Boston's and watch movies. No worries about anything else!
It is such a special cottage and I can't wait to go back!
Elizabeth, thank you very much for your hospitality!
This is such a quaint and charming place. We could tell that great care was taken by the owner and the caretaker that great attention to details to make our stay more enjoyable and restful were made. The kitchen was stocked with breakfast foods and basic necessities for cooking. Wine and flowers greeted us when we arrived. Truly enjoyed the stay here, and had hoped to have been snowed in for a couple of extra days! But the PennDoT crews are too good!!
Six months before our October 2013 trip, I perused the offerings on HomeAway and the extraordinary beauty of the Bick Road cottage and its location in the Lehigh Valley caught my eye. After I exchanged a few emails with one of the BnB's owners, Elizabeth, I knew I had found the right place. In the six months between May (when I booked the cottage) and October (when our trip occurred) Elizabeth and I exchanged at least 8 emails. She was always responsive, accommodating and over-the-top helpful. Better yet, in advance of our visit, she sent a PDF version of her extensive Visitor's Guide for the Lehigh Valley area. That guide was an incredible resource to us as we planned our trip. Upon our arrival, we were greeted by a cozy, warm cottage with the lights on. On the kitchen table sat a basket of freshly made muffins and fruit, and we were also delighted to find a bottle of local wine. There were ample breakfast makings for our family, including eggs, sausage, bagels, and other goodies. We felt completely cared for. Elizabeth provides guests with all the comforts of home and a well-written guide to both the area and the operation of various home components (heaters, media, WiFi, etc.). We really could not have had a better visit. Be sure to visit Hawk Mountain and the Amish country when you are in the area. The Echo Market was a real find. We did not eat out much since Elizabeth's amply stocked kitchen made cooking a breeze. All in all, a simply wonderful stay. If we are ever in the area again to visit our daughter, we will be sure to stay at the Bick Road cottage.
My husband and I booked the cottage for our quick mini-moon following our wedding in Pottstown. The hospitality was spectacular. Lots of warm, inviting touches including fresh flowers, a congratulatory card, local chocolate, champagne, and farm fresh breakfast.
The grounds are beautiful and relaxing and the cottage is a short drive away from some nice, local sites which are highlighted in the guest book. Thanks for a great time, Elizabeth. We'd love to come back.
