Hacienda La Linda is a 300 Acre total Eco-gem. 265 acres of which is protected primary rainforest that borders the Tirimbina river area, and backs up to the Brauilo Carillo National Park, which is a major bird corridor through the area. Our zone has the most bird species of anywhere in Costa Rica. The Sarapiqui is a class 3-4 river that runs through the property ,behind the house, and provides us with many miles of various types of river terrain to provide every possible form of river excitement. Located in the rainforest is a 14 station zip line that has a final run of 700 meters. Our 20 year association with our partners at Adventuras Del Sarapiqui, gives us unparalled abilities to accomadate all types of tours and adventures. Combined with our 34 year history on the property gives us more than 50 years experience in the area. Having your own private house getaway located at the river's edge is an experience like no other . Don't miss out on a well kept secret for over 35 years.
On Site Enjoyment: Hacienda La Linda offers many of the tours right on the property. The Canopy (zip-line) is located behind the house in the 250 acres of protected jungle. After the adventure in the air, take the guided ground tour through the amazing jungle. You will see plants, animals, and birds like never before. The river Sarapiqui cuts right through the property and offers incredible rafting right from the back door! Enjoy walking by the river’s edge and fishing at your leisure. The gated entrance ensures your safety and privacy. In the mornings and evenings watch on the large outdoor deck as birds of all species fly by. There is a book on hand to identify what you are seeing. Costa Rica has the most bird species of any Country in the world, and our zone has the most species in the Country. The bird population is diverse and large. At anytime of the day you are surrounded by them and identifing them is a joy to do. La Linda is also a working plant farm and you can see plants most days of the week. Depending on the time of year, you could see harvesting of black pepper. We are planning for Vanilla and Chocolate in the near future.
Hacienda La Linda Tours also offers connections and information about all types of tours and lodging throughout the country.
We have lived in Florida and Costa Rica our whole lives. We are 3rd generation Floridians. The property in Costa Rica was purchased in 1978 and we used it for Ornamental plant production the last 34 years to supply our nursery operation in Florida. The house on the farm sits on approx 300 acres of land. Over 260 acres of this is secondary rainforest protected in a program we decided to join to keep the natural bird corridor open from the National Park, through our property ,and down to the coast. We have always loved taking friends down to Costa Rica and showing them the beauty of the country and our area. We wanted to expand our vision of
having people know Costa Rica, our zone, and our property more intimately. To do this we thought of renting our private home in one of the most spectacular locations I could think of. We have traveled the world and still feel this is one of the hidden gems we've kept secret for along time. But now ,with a 17 station zipline located in the jungle on the property, a class 3-4 river running right behind the house for rafting, and all the other beautiful sights, it's time to let in the rest of the world to see what they have been missing. Please join us in an adventure of a lifetime, that we have enjoyed for a lifetime. It's time to open the gates of Hacienda La Linda for all the world to see!
Bob Vaughan purchased this farmhouse in 1978
This is the home that sits on a working plant farm. We have chosen to remodel the house and surrounding area to be utilized by people who want to see all that the outdoors has to offer in Costa Rica, and have an adventure of a lifetime. The tours, the animals, the people, the location, is unrivaled for adventure and relaxation. Everything you need is right out the front door on the property.
This place has much rustic charm. It is large enough to provide room for six comfortably. The location is close enough to Juan Santamaria airport to be easily accessible yet far from all the hustle and bustle of a big city. If you travel to La Virgen via the Poas Volcano road you can make stops at the volcano and La Paz Waterfall Gardens on the way. You can take a zip line or raft trip right from the property, at the time of this writing, there are only seven zip line stations available. The river view from the back porch is great and there is plenty of bird activity to enjoy. The very charming young lady who manages the place does a terrific job of cleaning and preparing the house for guests, she speaks excellent English, can arrange activities and cook a great meal for the guests if they so desire. Also, she can give you a personalized tour of the property which is quite interesting. A word of warning, you have to access the house via the stairs that are in the picture, I would not recommend this property to anyone who has difficulty in safely climbing stairs. Now for the issue: The owner lists internet not once but twice in his amenities information. There is no internet! This is a major frustration to us when owners simply do not provide correct information on their listing. We use the internet for doing our required business activities in the US, staying in contact with our families and planning our area excursions. This is the second property we encountered on this trip which listed internet and did not have it available. Also as an FYI, there is no evaporative cooling, there are no window panes which is not an issue, it cools off very nicely at night. There is also no telephone or computer available which was not particularly an issue for us. Would we stay there again, yes, if we could have 100% assurance there was internet available.
One of the most incredible vacations have ever been on. The staff was extremely accommodating and even cooked me an authentic Costa Rican meal right in my kitchen. Sitting out on the porch listening to the sound of the river, tucans, and monkeys howling was an experience I will never forget. The house was presented beautifully and the open air layout was perfect. I would recommend this property to everyone especially for those interested in outdoor activities such as whitewater rafting and ziplining that are done right on the property. Also for those looking for some r&r as the 2 nights I was there were I had the best nights sleep since I was a little kid. Great place!
Our stay at Hacienda La Linda was like being transported back in time to a place where I have somehow already been. I felt instantly comfortable in this homey atmosphere and welcomed by our hosts that live nearby on the property. The warm breeze passes freely through the house's large screened windows. The bedrooms are large and comfortable with private bathrooms. But it is the porch that is the true treasure of the house. We sat for many hours outside on the rocking chairs watching and listening to our private jungle show. Birds, monkeys, and river rafters were all on display. It was truly a peaceful escape.
A couple things to be aware of however: the house feels more like two bedrooms rather than three. The third is downstairs and feels quite separate from the other two. Also, there are no tv's or internet here. Personally, I thought the lack of tv's added to the appeal but I definitely felt the lack for internet. That being said, I loved it here and hope very much to stay again.
