About the property

Villa, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 4-6)

Just finished, new modern luxury villa, designed by Architect Stanley Hutchinson, Banana Wind offers breathtaking ocean views on three-levels and combines luxury and comfort to create a quiet, private retreat. Perfect for two couples, or a family. Accommodates 4 (up to 6 if convertible sofa and/or daybed window nook is used for children). Villa has a roof-top terrace ideal for watching panoramic sunsets and star gazing at night. Main level has indoor/outdoor living area, fully-equipped, cook's kitchen, opening onto a pool terrace and dining. The balcony off the second floor bedrooms overlooks the pool and Caribbean Sea, with amazing trade-wind breezes. This is a delightful place to enjoy your morning coffee or a cocktail. There are two master suites. One has a king. The second has two twins which easily convert to a king or can be used separately. Both baths have outdoor (but enclosed for privacy) showers with rain heads. Gentle tradewinds make sleeping with the windows open a delight. Air conditioning is available but rarely needed. Pool/terrace design affords both sun and shade for sun-sensitive vacationers.

If you're looking for a villa with "Wow factor" appeal, Banana Wind has it and does not disappoint with modern/contemporary, eco-friendly design and high-end, luxury amenities.

If you are on the fence about Vieques, or trying to decide between islands, you shouldn't be. Vieques is an absolute gem. It's undeveloped, full of natural beauty, great snorkeling, has pristine natural beaches, a world renowned bio-luminescent bay, great restaurants, wild horses freely roaming the island, and it has no fast food chains, stop lights, high-rise hotels, or cruise ship ports.

Romantic Anniversary Getaway

  • 5 of 5

my husband and I were looking for a private, well appointed home for our anniversary. This home was perfection. It's beautifully equipped and private. The views are stunning and the outdoor cook space a dream come true. We loved the pool and the outdoor showers were the very best. We would highly recommend this vacation getaway and will be back!!

Banana Wind Vieques

  • 4 of 5

Had a wonderful time staying at Banana Wind. This modern, concrete house is designed by a locally known architect and well appointed and maintained with great amenities including professional range, outdoor grill and fridge, alarm system, washer and dryer, wireless and satellite radio. It was a convenient location and a perfect size for the three of us! The house had a beautiful swimming pool- although the water was too cold to use during our recent stay. Great views from all rooms and rooftop. The house looks quite large from the exterior but really only comfortably accommodates 3 or 4 people. Our only major criticism was that there was no living room or place to hang out or eat or entertain indoors (other than a counter with two barstools and small sofa). The caretaker and owner were very responsive and helpful when contacted. We would definitely stay here again!

Exceptional Stay at Banana Wind!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I just returned from a week-long stay at Banana Wind. This villa exceeded my already high expectations in every way. The location was perfect. Private and safe, with gorgeous views over Esperanza and the Caribbean. The bedrooms, bathrooms, living space (both indoors and outdoors was perfect for my wife, two young kids (7 and 3), and our babysitter). Everything was top notch in this house, from the house-wide sound system, to the Sub-Zero fridge. Only a few minute drive to either Ezperanza or Isabel II made Banana Wind great location.

The icing on the cake, however, was having access to the best property manager on the island; Colleen. She answered all our questions immediately (and we did ask a lot). And she did so in a friendly and professional manner. The owners should be very happy to have her.

This was my sixth trip to Vieques, and I have stayed in a variety of villas and hotels on the island. This was the best one yet.

Now that I have been home a while, I'm already missing the sound of the Coqui frogs at night while staring at the Caribbean Sea bathed in moonlight.

Thank you for making my family's stay here a memorable one.

Great views, Great kitchen

  • 3 of 5

Our party of three had a fantastic week in Vieques staying at Banana Wind. The views are wonderful, especially from the roof, the fixtures are top notch, and the gourmet kitchen has everything you could possibly need and more. Wifi & Satellite worked well though we were fairly disconnected on our trip. The available beach gear was convenient and easy to use! Loved having a washner/dryer. Colleen who cares for the house was warm and an amazing Vieques resource.

With all of that said, I will think twice about staying at Banana Wind again because the showers are not good. The outdoor showers were a selling feature to me when we reserved the house, but the reality of them was not good. The shower head is really high and the water pressure was inadequate. Because the wind is so strong and the shower head is so high, the wind can blow the entire water stream right off of you. I was cold and felt it was difficult to actually get clean when showering so I ended up showering by the pool's shower where there was much better water pressure, but was awkward. Also, while the dining room table is big and well-positioned, there was little other social space that was comfortable for even just our small party of 3 to hang out in because the "living room" sofa is tiny and there are only 2 lounge chairs by the pool. Also, the pool is pretty cold most of the time. Loved that it's a salt water pool, but we rarely used it because it was so cold.

In sum, it's a great house, but the difficulty with the showers is a dealbreaker for me despite how well-run and beautifully appointed the house is.

Owner's Response: We have been renting our home since the winter of 2011. This is our first rating that has been less than 5 stars. We will take into consideration these concerns. It is a surprise to hear about the water pressure and outdoor showers from this guest, as neither have been a problem with more than 40 previous guests. It is unfortunate that this was a problem for these guests. The showerheads are located high in order to avoid the door hitting them. Wind can certainly affect the direction of the water flow, unfortunately we have no control over Mother Nature. The pool can be on the cold side and everyone has a different tolerance level for cold. Many guests have enjoyed being in the pool in December and January (myself included). There are 2 lounge chairs by the pool and 8 other chairs for indoor and outdoor use, that can all be moved about. While we appreciate constructive criticism and an opportunity to improve our home for our guests, we believe a 3 star rating is a bit harsh.

Truly a lovely home. Highly recommend staying here. Perfect for our family of 2 adults and 2 children. Having built our own home I can really appreciate all the attention to detail, so many wonderful amenities- the sunrise is amazing from the roof, view in every direction, kitchen (both indoor and out) great… Coleen (checked us in) was so generous with her time and suggestions!

Banana Wind Get Away Was OUTSTANDING!!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I wanted to get away for our anniversary to an excluded place with all the bells and whistles. This property has it. Besides the fact that it is immaculate. Everything about it was way above expectations. The view is great, from every level. (Main, 2nd floor and roof top!) Sound system in every room and pool. It would be easier to cover what this house doesn't have! ;) The owners were great to deal with. Very helpful with suggestions too. Whether it was recommending a great restaurant for our anniversary(El Quenepo) or beach(Blue). Seeing the wild horses around the island was really cool. Snorkeling was fun. Must do the bio-luminescent bay tour by kayak. You can get fresh seafood to cook on the great grill at the seafood market in Isabel which is located right next to the ferry dock. Get there between 10-11am to get fish and lobster caught that day! Pretty interesting place to hang around too. Some other nice things about Banana Wind: beach chairs and cooler, outdoor showers, trade winds blowing through the house(there is AC, but it was not required during our stay), proximity to Esperanza and Isabel and the pool was awesome to take a dip in the morning with your coffee and after returning from the beach! Colleen, the property manager was also very, very helpful with suggestions. All in all, we had a wonderful time and can't wait to return.
