After dinner, walk to the private chateaux a mile up the road or explore the surrounding woods. Arrive on Saturday and visit the market in St Cyprien on Sunday to stock up for your stay. Canoe down the Dordogne River, cycle the back roads through tiny villages, walk through gorgeous gardens, visit local markets, go fishing, ride high above the valley in a hot air balloon, catch the marvelous falconry display at Chateau des Milandes. Visit the castle at Beynac (4km) then cross the river to Castelnaud home of a fabulous medieval museum. Explore the staircases and secret courtyards of Sarlat by day and attend a performance of Shakespeare in the evening. This area is rich in history with something for everyone.
During July and August, the night markets bristle with activity with long tables of happy, enthusiastic diners enjoying delicious offerings from local growers and producers. Set in a different village every night this, is a "do not miss" treat. This is one of the best-kept secrets in France. Also, for the music lovers, the Festival du Perigord Noir offers internationally renowned soloists and orchestras in over twenty different settings throughout the area including Saint Amand de Coly, the churches of Plazac, Auriac, Rouffignac, and Sarlat as well as the orange grove of Eyrignac Manor.
You enter into the Artists Loft through a private entrance (and private parking) at the rear of the house into the well-equipped kitchen which has everything you'll need to prepare delicious meals,
The salon area has a large overstuffed sofa, two comfy chairs, a bar and a desk. There is seating for 7 in the salon. The salon also has a CD Stereo system with a selection of great CDs, video DVDs (and DVD players if needed) and a paperback book selection for your use during your visit.
There is a comfortable queen-sized bed with memory foam topper and a shower/tub in the bathroom.
An additional en suite bedroom can be added if you need the extra space to sleep six adults (this ensuite bedroom can be rented separately). We provide towels, bed linens, fluffy bathrobes, soap, hair dryers and toilet paper.
There is a large umbrella covered table in the back area with four chairs for romantic outdoor dining with a view of the Dordogne Valley.
This beautiful area is ideal for canoeing on the river, cycling through the many small villages and back roads, or enjoying the many marked hiking trails that take you off the beaten path in a very special way.
If you want to rent bikes, we work with what we feel is the best cycle rental company in the area. Your bicycles are delivered to the house and yours to use for the week, along with detailed maps with different routes and distances for each. A truly wonderful service.
The hiking in this area is superb and the French National Trail System has a huge number of beautiful and historically interesting trails.
