It was a really lovely stay. The house was perfect, we had everything we needed
A Weekend to Remember
An amazing weekend away from the hustle and bustle of the city. I organised this weekend for my dear friends Hen's Weekend, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Avignon is a beautiful scene as soon as you pull into the driveway. Very handy to have the kitchen fully stock with pots, pans, plates and glasses.
Close enough to Daylesford to enjoy all of the shops and Day Spa's.
Already planning another girls weekend away here for my mother and sister, and would also love to bring my partner and 2 dogs up here for a romantic getaway.
Thankyou Avignon for a beautiful weekend to remember, I cant wait to come back for another relaxing break.
Quite a long drive from Daylesford
Being unfamiliar with the area I booked Avignon as it read short drive to Daylesford. This cottage is a 20 minute drive from Daylesford in quite a remote location - it would have to be at least 10km from a shop of any kind.
The cottage was nicely decorated but very cold on arrival and takes the wood fire to warm it up. If you run out of fire wood in the book it says you might have to bring your own?? Lucky when I ran low I went out and after a good look around found some under a big tree! The driveway was muddy and as I had my 2 dogs this was a problem. Due to the above I found the property to be over priced. I did like the property it just wasn`t what I was looking for.
Avignon is clearly advertised as being in Kingston. For us the attraction of Avignon is its rural setting - we like the fact that we are in the middle of the countryside, at the edge of a pretty country town, and yet are only a 15 minute drive from Daylesford. Closer shops, including an amazing French patissiere and some good country pubs, can be found in Creswick, which is only 5 minutes away. In my view, it is a privilege to be able to take your pets to someone else's home. However, I obviously have no control over the weather or the rain. Regarding the firewood, as per my last comments, there is lots of firewood and kindling on the property in very close vicinity to the house.
We spent 2 nights at this property in the middle of winter. Unfortunately we ran out of firewood on the first night and there was no wood stack. The door handle on the outside of the main bedroom door dropped off and my sister was locked in the room whist I was out getting supplies . She was quite distressed when I managed to open the door. There are no breakfast supplies and there was no salt or pepper . Rather disappointing for a $500 charge .
These comments were provided to me after the guests had stayed and I provided an apology at the time. I take great pride in making sure that people enjoy their stay at Avignon (which is my attempt at a slice of Provence in rural Victoria) and over the 8 years I have offered the property as holiday accommodation have received many wonderful comments from my guests. In response to the points raised: My contact details are always provided to guests so if they have issues during their stay they can get in contact. If the guests had contacted me I would have told them that there is a large wood stack just under the pine trees which is easily accessible (and actually quite visible upon a walk around the property). In terms of heating within the property, as well as the pot belly stove, the house has a reverse cycle unit, and each room also has an oil heater. It is not hard to get the house feeling quite snug, even in the midst of winter. In relation to breakfast supplies, Avignon is a fully self contained house - it is not a bed and breakfast, so it is quite normal in these circumstances not to provide breakfast (the guests were advised of this fact before their stay). I do provide basics such as tea, coffee and sugar however. There are also salt and pepper grinders (in conjunction to oils, balsamic, etc) - it appears that these grinders must have run out and I will ensure this does not happen again.
Great Getaway for the family
We loved Avignon, it had everything we needed. Great kitchen, the owner supplied just about everything you need and the bedrooms were lovely and comfy. The pot belly fire was fantastic and warmed the whole house day and night. The garden was great - the kids loved exploring outside and playing with the resident goat who was very friendly and loveable. We will definitely be returning to Avignon. I highly recommend this house for a weekend getaway to relax and unwind.
Gorgeous country home!
Stayed in this delightful home with 5 others for 2 nights. Plenty of room and very comfy (especially the beds). Nice location to explore the region.
Good kitchen. Great fireplace. Awesome CD collection!
We all agreed we would definitely stay here again!!
