Very well appointed home in an unbeatable location.
The house was beautifully furnished and the kitchen was extremely well equipped. We were a group of six adults and we found the house offered loads of space for us to share time together, but still have our own space to chill out with a good book. The location was so close to a beautiful stretch of beach (including a dog friendly area), we were able to enjoy a daily stroll. The house is a very short walk to the Salt Village, with a selection of restaurants (especially enjoyed La Barrita). Would return in a heartbeat!
Wonderful Beach House
We have just spent a wonderful week at Ala Moana Beachhouse for a very relaxing family holiday. We were so grateful that we could bring our 2 fur babies on holidays with us. The home was well styled and had a lovely homely and beachy feel. The pool is amazing. Our daughter absolutely loved the pool and we spent countless hours enjoying it. We thoroughly enjoyed relaxing on the front verandah listening to the ocean and enjoying our meals and a quiet drink. The home is incredibly well located and is only a few minutes walk to the beach and all the amazing restaurants and cafes and play ground at Salt Village. Richard was incredibly lovely to deal with. We will definitely be back to Ala Moana for our next beach holiday.
Thanks very much for your kind comments Nicky, I hope we do see you again down here at our beach house.
Great Location but not 'luxurious'
We've stayed at Salt Village many times, this is the first time we've booked a house. The pool is amazing and we loved it, especially the kids. The location is really good and an easy walk to the beach and to Salt Village. Unfortunately we were disappointed in the house after reading all the amazing comments. The main issue we had was how dirty it was, the surface clean was ok, but if you looked beyond that it was filthy. No one had bothered to wipe dust off surfaces, skirting boards or check drawers. I had to wash out the kids bedside drawers and found an old kids pair of undies squashed in the back of one of the drawers. I had to take out the surfboard rug in the room because it had dog hair all over it - clearly someone had their dog sleeping on it. Not great when you have a child with asthma. I wiped the bedside drawers out in the main bedroom too. I stopped at the drawers in the walk in wardrobe they were full of sand so I just left them I was over it by then, we used our suitcase to store the rest of our things. The other issue we had was no blinds or curtains in the upstairs hallway between main living area and bedroom. With us having young kids we like to leave our door open in case the kids need us (especially because they were downstairs & a bit scared) but because there were no blinds we were woken by bright light at the crack of dawn (you could see there used to be blinds because there were holes in the window surrounds). Blinds on the glass doors off the kitchen didn't work they were broken, curtains in the lounge room that looked like shower curtain material had what looked like mould on them. We found the bed in the main bedroom very uncomfortable, my husband who can normally sleep anywhere complained about it so it wasn't just me. The queen bedroom downstairs needs block out curtains not just thin curtains that let all the light in first thing in the morning. January is so hot and I wouldn't stay in a property again without air conditioning in the bedrooms. I saw one bad review when I was looking at the property and I thought how odd because all the other reviews were glowing. I just expect a property to be clean (properly clean ie so I don't have to clean it when I arrive and things to be working. I can overlook a deck that needs oiling and paintwork outside that needs addressing but I can't overlook filth & things that need to be replaced (ie like broken and/or mouldy blinds) and chipped plates. These things do not say 'luxurious' to me.
Hi Lesley, thank you for your comments and making me aware of these facts. I was not aware of them previously. In any case, I taken up these issues with my cleaner and waiting to hear back from her currently. We have had several cleaning companies over the 10years we have rented the house and have always been very pleased with the job her company has done. You are correct that there were blinds in the upstairs hallway but we removed them on advice that the hanging cords posed a risk to small children. Because this is just a hallway we preferred the look also of no blinds or curtains up there. My wife also works in interiors and the curtains in the lounge are “sheers” and have been installed for their look and complementing the rest of the furniture in the lounge area. They are not a cheap “shower curtain” solution. I was not aware they are mouldy and will have that addressed. I suffer from a bad back and I am very fussy about my beds. The mattress there is a quality brand with a pillow top. I and my wife find it very comfortable and equal to a new mattress we have at our home so that comment is a complete surprise and I am sorry but I do not agree with it. The queen bed downstairs has a roller blind that is black out facing east but again the curtains are there to match the décor and seeing they face into the covered verandah area, didn’t see a need for them to be black out type also. We stayed in the house early December and did throw out cutlery and crockery that was damaged and installed replacements. The house has been heavily booked over Christmas and January and its possible there has been recent damages. The house has also been booked back to back leaving only a few hours between tenants so its very hard to get much inspection time down there. I have also been away myself and I was overseas during your time at the house. There have been people who brought a dog and there are strict guidelines that dogs cannot come inside into the bedrooms and carpeted areas. I am very disappointed that you found dog hair on that rug as it should have been picked up and addressed by my cleaner also and not even of happened in the first place. Sorry. I do text most people who stay at our house after they initially arrive and after their stay and I can assure you that many people do find our house a luxury home and have no complaints. Its a shame that many do not bother to put the positive comments they share with me in our reviews section. I am sorry
Our Annual Holiday Bliss
We are regulars to Ala Moana and I wanted to take the time to write a review for Richard and Katherine. We have been most fortunate to stay at Ala Moana for the past 4 years for our annual holiday. We are always so grateful for the beautiful surrounds as well as the trouble Richard and Katherine go to in making the property comfortable and trouble free for our stay. The interior is always changing, reflecting the beach/coastal theme. The property is clean, comfortable and easily accessible to the surrounding Salt Village. This visit, funnily enough, after staying all these years, the microwave stopped working. Then the next day, the clothes dryer also stopped. Richard wasn't phased by a friendly text message to let him know. The very next day he was here with a brand new clothes dryer and microwave. He even gave us a bottle of wine for the inconvenience! We absolutely look forward to, and love our visit to Ala Moana each and every year. For our family..this property and destination is Number 1.This property is one of a kind and we will be back again next year..(not in our usual spot..) but back all the same...and we can't wait!!
Thanks Monique and Clayton for your kind review. It was good to finally meet up face to face this time even if it was due to appliances failing. You have always been great tenants and we appreciate how well you look after the house including cleaning it up before you leave even though you know the cleaner is coming. Sorry someone had already beat you to December next year but we look forward to seeing you in September instead. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
We were thrilled with our recent stay at Ala Moana Beachhouse at Kingscliff. We travel often but this was our first trip to this beautiful location but I have a feeling it won't be our last. The house was spotless, homey, light and breezy and had everything necessary for a great holiday. The house was ideal for our small family but would easily suits two families holidaying together. My only regret was we didn't book it for longer. Highly reccommend!!!
Hello Toni, sorry I was not aware that you had left a review until today . Your certainly did sound like your were enjoying it there when I texted you during your stay. Its our own family beach house and I am happy you enjoyed the surroundings and appreciated all the things we have tried to create with our house down there. As I said, we do not get to use it much ourselves these days but have booked a week this month finally for ourselves. I look forward to seeing your name pop up again.
Great holiday House
We had a lovely holiday at Ala Moana - pleasant and beachy decor. Unfortunately the downstairs TV was not working well and the dishwasher didn't clean very well.
Hi Janette, we are pleased you enjoyed your stay and our decorating. We have really tried to have a coastal theme to the house. I am surprised about the downstairs TV as a new aerial was installed on the roof the day before your stay and the we were told that all was fine. I texted the current tenant yesterday and they indicated all was fine also but I will check it again between the next people coming and going. I will also get the dishwasher looked at as this is first we have heard of this issue as well. Thanks for letting me know.
