Georgetown House Rental Photos and Description

2 large king bedroom suites, 2 full baths, sleeps 8

Experience stress-free country living at this one-of-a-kind Texas Hill Country home. Situated among live oaks on a mile of San Gabriel River frontage, 172 acres of working farmland, and full of history, this Georgetown ranch is sure to captivate the whole group with its stunning views, terraced patios and original charm.

Throughout this thoughtfully designed home, you’ll marvel at unique touches that speak to its special appeal – From the hand-laid stone pulled from the river, to the 5-tiered waterfall out back. You’ll even find original, framed art painted by previous owner and artist C.P. Montague (who happened to be one of Lyndon B. Johnson’s favorite) decorating the walls.

The open living area offers plenty of air conditioned space to catch up with friends, while the gourmet kitchen provides all you need to prep family-style meals, including a dishwasher for easy clean-up. Curl up with a book by the wood-burning fireplace (wood provided), host family movie night on the 52” flat screen TV and DVD player, or stream your favorite show through Wi-Fi on your devices.

Two luxurious king suites come complete with light-filled sitting rooms and beautiful linens, while a queen sleeper sofa in the living alcove and additional 22” queen inflatable mattress with comfy bedding creates room for up to 8 travelers. If you brought the little one, a Pack-n-play and high chair are available too.

Two full baths, one with a walk-in shower, the other with a square soaking tub offers a convenient way to share space. A front-load washer and dryer helps keep packing light.

An entertainer’s paradise lies just outside! Relax with a glass of wine on multi-level terraced patios while listening to the soothing cascading waterfall, or the fountain in the pond below. Fire up the charcoal grill and large smoker and dine alfresco with the whole group. At dusk, a fire pit awaits for story swapping, S’mores making, and stargazing.

Just 10 minutes down the road is historic Georgetown with its museums and live music. Shopping at IKEA and the outlet mall is just 20 minutes away, and you’ll be in the heart of Austin in 30 minutes.

Or stay close to home and find great fishing and tubing in the San Gabriel River, along with 172 acres for hiking and birding. Be sure to check out our farm tour where the whole family can learn about local fossils, search for arrowheads, engage with the animals, or take tractor rides. Don’t forget your pets! Open acres of leash-free space are a dog’s dream come true.

Ditch the city life for the serenity of the Texas Hill Country countryside and come see what it’s like to live on a working farm and explore a living museum!

About Sheron Scurlock, Owner

Dan and I both grew up in Rockdale, a small town 45 minutes from Georgetown. I grew up in the country on a small 3 acre farm and Dan grew up in town. We were childhood sweethearts and both attended Baylor University.

I have loved furnishing and decorating the homes for our guests. I continue to do a lot of the landscaping and taking care of the general upkeep of the homes.

We love to travel, garden and I am an avid reader. Since I have retired I have more time to volunteer. Dan is always busy working on something on the farm - he will never be bored!

Sheron Scurlock, Owner purchased this house in 2010

Why Sheron Scurlock, Owner chose Texas Hill Country

When my mom and dad bought this beautiful piece of property, they gave each of their 5 children the option of building a home at a location of our choosing. Dan and I jumped at the opportunity and were the only ones to take them up on it. We moved to the farm in 1971 and built our home in 1977.

After my dad died in 1986 Dan and I began buying the farm. When my mom died in 2010, she left her home and art studio to us.

We've raised our family here and made the same offer to our two sons and our youngest took us up on it and built a beautiful home for his family in the middle of the property.

Rocky Overlook and The Palette Pad are the heart of the farm and I could not even think of selling them. I didn't want them to fall in disrepair from not being used, or vandalized. Both are so unique that I wanted to share them.

My sisters helped me and we totally remodeled the interiors of both and the results have been spectacular. It has been so gratifying to share my parent's dream home, history, and talents with others.

In each house, I have a notebook with the story of their searching for and finding the property and building the houses. Also, the story of mama's painting and how she became C. P. Montague and a favorite of President Lyndon B. Johnson. The joy and appreciation that guests have when staying there are a living tribute to mama and daddy!

What makes this house unique

This large, open home was designed around centuries-old live oak trees. It is constructed of river rock, every rock was picked up at the river on the property by Sheron's parents, Bill and Pauline Thweatt.

Guests have marveled at how the rock was laid - all of the grout exactly the same depth and smoothed, and the lines of rocks precisely straight. Mama laid all of the rocks that show on the front of the houses and the interior rock fireplace walls. Daddy laid rock on the back and sides where they would not be as visible! The artist in her had to have the very straight, precise lines!!

There are special rocks interspersed with the river rocks that mama could tell you a story about.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Our few days at Rocky Overlook were a very pleasant experience. There was more than enough room to do the work required to create the flower arrangements for the wedding reception for our son and his bride. A lot of preparation was required, and the owners of the property were very helpful in helping us find where we could find flowers and other supplies we needed. Overall a great experience.

The weather was absolutely beautiful after a spectacular thunderstorm. We all mostly were outside in the very accommodating outdoor areas with nice decking and tables for the rehearsal dinner the night before the wedding. Many people walked down to look at the water features to see the frogs and other wildlife that were seeming to want to be included in our special evening.

The very spacious home was a great place for us, and some of the groomsmen to show up on the day of the wedding and iron their clothes and otherwise prepare themselves for the upcoming wedding. Again, a wonderful place to spend a few days. I have to mention that the local farm dogs would show up in the morning just to say hello and then they would move along to do their farm dog stuff.

I would be remiss if I failed to say that we had many of the cousins of our son and daughter show up and rent one of the other homes on the Scurlock Farms property. I have to say that I would go there again if I would be in the area - I would also suggest that the Lois Perkins Chapel at Southwestern University is a wonderful place to see - the stained glass windows and the pipe organ is in itself something special. The rolling green hills, farm animals to be seen along with the creeks, the river and wildlife are special.

Thank you very much to the Scurlock family for making our stay so very pleasant.

Best Regards from the Ste**** Family

Beautiful House with Character on Wonderful Landscape

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at Sheron's house over Labor Day weekend.

There is plenty of room outside to spread out, and many great amenities that the property has to offer.

I was unaware that this was an artist's home who had sold paintings to LBJ! Too cool.

Beautiful artwork inside as well.

Only caveat i'll mention is that to sleep 8, you'll be in some pretty tight quarters for sleeping.

While the house is more than spacious enough to accommodate- you'll have a crowded common area with a sleeper & two inflatable mattresses if you take it to max occupancy.

Also Sheron's muffins were excellent and a great treat for everyone.

Thanks so much for your hospitality.

Kevin (& Family)

Amazing-Quiet and Peaceful

  • 5 of 5

We chose Scurlock Farms because we wanted a quiet and peaceful area for the weekend.

Sheron was super sweet, she gave us a tour of the farm plus let us hang out with the animals which was so much fun.

She spoiled us with fruit and homemade muffins that were so good!

The home was clean and cozy, and it had everything that we needed for our stay.

I highly recommend staying here if your looking for a nice and quiet place with lots of things to see and do so close by.

Thank you so much for everything Sheron!

Owner's Response: I am so glad you joyed your stay. Hope you are able to find some land yourselves - there is nothing like the quiet, rural life. Especially when you can be close to town with restaurants, shopping, entertainment , etc. like Scurlock Fams is. I am glad the kids got to enjoy the animals. If you post any photos, please tag Scurlock Farms. I would love to se and share them. Come back in the fall or winter and enjoy the fire pit again or the fireplace!

A spacious, clean, and comfortable getaway!

  • 5 of 5

What a lovely home and property! I stayed for two nights, along with 6 family members, and we had the best time at Rocky Overlook. We were far enough from city pollution to see stars at night, yet a convenient and quick drive to get any groceries or supplies.

Sheron keeps a well-maintained, clean, and amenity filled home.

Never a shortage of clean, soft, towels or linens. The kitchen was stocked with lots of choices for cookware and dishes. She made herself available to our every question and need, but gave considerate space as well. She even delivered the most delicious home-made muffins and fresh fruit!

The house was spacious, yet kitschy and cozy; but the outdoor areas were the real draw! This property has 2 spacious patios, with ample seating and lighting for enjoying the natural beauty surrounding you.

Serene and secluded river access is a 5 minute walk, through a well-mowed field, and down a slight inclined path. No one in our group had much trouble with the trek, though it may prove a bit more difficult for older or disabled guests. The large rock formations by the river provide plenty of room for spreading out and exploring, though shade is scarce in that area- so stock up on sunscreen! Inner tubes proved to be a lot of fun, though there are some parts where the water is shallow but still a bit swift! We felt very safe and comfortable overall! I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a quiet and nature-filled getaway. My only regret is not seeing more of the farm property! Sheron is a lovely hostess, and would make any guest feel attended to and welcome!

Owner's Response: I am so glad your family group could get together and enjoy time together with us at Scurlock Farms! For those guests that don't want to make the walk to the river, they can drive down. They would still need to make the inclined trail down to the river and walk on the limestone rock banks. I like showing guests the river with the tour so they have an idea if someone in the group might not want to "do" the river. Tubing in the river has been great this summer! We hope you will visit us again when you want another mini-reunion!

Amazing property

  • 5 of 5

We are so happy we chose this beautiful property for our stay in Georgetown and wish we had known about it all the years we visited family here! Georgetown is our extended family hub so we visit here often and usually stay in a hotel in Round Rock. This time there was a wedding and we needed to be closer so we tried Home Away. This property is absolutely beautiful and private and comfortable and clean. Sheron and Dan are the nicest couple -we felt like we had known them forever. I can't say enough about the house- has everything you could need, it is very unique and beautiful, the property is so pretty and conducive to all kinds of outdoor activities. It is quiet and private because it's outside of town, but once we drove there the first time, it was very easy to get to town in minutes! We absolute felt at home from the moment of our arrival. I recommend this property wholeheartedly and without reservation! And quite honestly, we are super picky.

Owner's Response: It is amazing how many guests that stay in a HomeAway property vs a hotel room are won over. I am so glad you found us and we look forward to your next visit! I still need to go by and say hi to your family at Catfish-N-More Restaurant (great food!) in the park. The homes on the farm make great headquarters and home base for families visiting the Georgetown area. It is nice to have your own "home" to return to at the end of the day's activities to relax and unwind. Come again!

Awesome weekend getaway!

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I had an amazing weekend at Rocky Overlook. The house was stunning. We spent most of our time on the beautiful, spacious patio. We grilled every night. The bathroom was like an escape to paradise. The best thing was the separation from the city, exactly what we were looking for. Even our dogs had a blast. The owners were generous and friendly--- they even provided us with fruit and muffins. These little touches really made the trip memorable. We fully plan on returning as soon as possible.

Owner's Response: I am so glad you enjoyed the peace and quiet of the farm. Every time I drive into Austin and return to the farm, I realize why people visiting us from a city enjoy the farm so much! We would love to have you visit us again. Maybe you can come in the fall so you can enjoy the fire pit and the kids can make S'mores or just roast marshmallows.
