About Dan Stophel

We are Dan & Bonnie. We have been together since 1988! We met in the Navy and both retired with over 20 years. We came back to the Bristol Area because of family and the weather. Bonnie is from Michigan, which is way too cold in the winter and I am from Bluff City. It is not a bad place to hang your hat.

Dan Stophel purchased this farmhouse in 1991

Why Dan Stophel chose Tennessee

This was my Grandparents house were they raised my mother, as well as her sisters and brothers. We bought it from my uncle and rented it out for a while and decided to convert it to a VRBO home. We hope it works out well and we meet some really great people.

Everything we needed.

Great location for fishermen. Everything was provided for a comfortable stay. Wi-Fi was great (has been a problem at other locations). We'll definitely be back.

Lovely house in the hollow

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at this two-bedroom place. It has a nice kitchen with all the basics, and was easy to get warm and cozy after hiking at a nearby waterfall (Laurel Falls—I'd highly recommend it) and visiting country music sites in nearby Bristol, (which I'd also recommend). It had everything we needed, no frills and it's very cute and quiet.

Dan was easy to reach and dropped by to make sure everything was good. Pet-friendly is a big plus for us, too. All around a great place!

Owner's Response: I am glad you found our house comfortable and well equipped. We have just added a little frill with an upgrade to WIFI for those who desire to remain plugged in. I hope you will come back for a visit again as there is always something to do for those who wish to stay busy and as you stated the house is quiet and comfortable for those who want to relax.

Great locarion

  • 2 of 5

The house was very well equipped. My family and I left after only 2 nights although we were booked for 6. The neighbors shot off their guns/shot gun our second night and my children were extremely frightened. Also, the neighbor was walking around at night down the road with a shovel in hand. It was all very odd and quite scary! We left the next morning and did not return again. I am sad to say we did not get to enjoy our stay because of the neighbors, but the house was great in that it had all that was needed to feel at home. Although, there was a lady bug issue inside the house, they were everywhere!

Owner's Response: I regret that you had an issue during your stay with us. I wish you would have contacted me prior to your departure so I would have had the chance to address your concerns. The house is as advertised at the foot of the national forest. People hunt and fish in the area, as well as carry out other normal activities around their houses. I only live two houses down and would have been there very quickly. The area is very safe. The lady bugs are a gift from the forestry department of the national park. They introduced the lady bugs due to the aphids in the pine trees. They are not native to the area, so they invade peoples residence in the fall to winter over. They show up again when the weather warms up. Being winter has not shown up here to date, they are a little confused. I try to keep them vacuumed up as much as possible. To my knowledge they are not dangerous to humans.
