About Dan Stophel

We are Dan & Bonnie. We have been together since 1988! We met in the Navy and both retired with over 20 years. We came back to the Bristol Area because of family and the weather. Bonnie is from Michigan, which is way too cold in the winter and I am from Bluff City. It is not a bad place to hang your hat.

Dan Stophel purchased this farmhouse in 1991

Why Dan Stophel chose Tennessee

This was my Grandparents house were they raised my mother, as well as her sisters and brothers. We bought it from my uncle and rented it out for a while and decided to convert it to a VRBO home. We hope it works out well and we meet some really great people.

Cozy, Comfortable, Simple

  • 5 of 5

We were coming to the area for a big race at Bristol Dragway. We were looking for a inexpensive comfortable place to stay and we found it in Smoky Brook Hollow. Nothing fancy, just a comfortable, clean home off the beaten path. We were there for 3 nights and I haven't slept that good in years. Love the place and we will be back next year. Dan has a wonderful place and has kept it simple. Love it.

Peaceful, perfect location!

  • 5 of 5

My husband, our dog Dottie, and I had a great time during our Smokey Brook Hollow stay! We loved the location, as we could easily access all of the Tri-State area. We had everything we needed for our stay at the cabin. Most importantly, we were very close to South Holston Lake! I would highly recommend renting a boat and getting out on the lake, that was our favorite part of our stay. We rented boats from Friendship Marina and Painter's Creek Marina, both were great experiences. We can't wait to come back to Tennessee! Thank you Dan and Bonnie for sharing your home with us!

Cozy home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

This was a great little home that was perfect for our trip. It was quiet and clean and had all the necessities needed for a perfect getaway! We were there to go to the drag races in Bristol and this was perfect as we were only 15 minutes away. The internet is horrible there and for most when they are on vacation they don't require this and are good without it but I have a home business that requires internet and so for me it would have been great to have this as I wasn't able to do work while there at the house. Other than the internet this is the perfect place for a cozy, quiet getaway but still close to everything you need to have the perfect vacation. We loved staying there and I could have stayed longer but unfortunately we had to return to work. If you want a clean, quiet, cozy place to vacation with all the amenities of home then this is the place for you. We will definitely be back in the future! Thanks so much Dan for sharing your home with us!

Owner's Response: I am glad you enjoyed your stay and found everything to your liking, except for the internet. We try to keep the house and grounds clean and well maintained. We are convenient to Bristol, Johnson City and Kingsport Tennessee as well as Bristol and Abingdon Virginia. There is plenty to do and see here with a lot of music including Rhythm and Roots, water park and zip line parks, racing and now football in September, as well as fishing in the South Holston River and Lake. We regret you had issues with the internet. I wish you would have contacted me during your stay so we would have had a chance to address the issue while you were here.

Cozy house close to the south holston!

  • 5 of 5

Dan was very helpful with all of my questions prior to our stay. The house was great and located in a beautiful valley near the south holston river. We fly fished over the weekend and this place was a great home base. Thanks Dan!

Great Place

  • 5 of 5

The description of the property is accurate. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely book the property again. A great location and convenient to Bristol Motor Speedway. Except for cable TV, I don't think there was anything else that could have made this visit more perfect. It has everything like the comforts of home and at a very affordable price. The booking process went smoothly and all the instructions were clear and very much appreciated.

Owner's Response: We are happy you enjoyed your stay. We are conveniently located to Johnson City, Kingsport and Bristol Tennessee/Virginia, also Abingdon Virginia which gives a person plenty to see and do in the area. We provide WiFi connection as well as a DVD and VCR with some movies for your entertainment options. You can bring your own movies to watch if you like. But the house is located near the Cherokee Forest, South Holston river and lake for great fishing and is a perfect place to just relax. We hope you will return often to discover the many things about the area.
