About David Colin

I was born and raised here in Rome. In the late 1960's, my father was one of the founders of the American University of Rome (AUR), and, indeed, the apartment was the administrative office and classroom (and impromptu party space) for AUR over a number of years. So, the apartment has been in my family for almost 50 years.

Although I now live near Washington, DC, where I am an economist, I come back to Rome as often as possible. Despite all my time here, Rome continues to be a fascinating city that always has more to offer. I hope you find the Eternal City as welcoming and wonderful as I do.

David Colin purchased this apartment in 1992

Why David Colin chose Centro Storico

This apartment has been in my family for more than 40 years, was completely remodeled and furnished in late 2010, and is now available for rental as a self-catering apartment. Upon booking, I will send you a detailed information package on the apartment, the neighborhood, restaurants, and sights. We offer one complimentary airport or train station arrival pick-up for our guests, and an English-speaking greeter will meet you at your arrival. Linens, welcome snacks and beverages, utilities, wifi, taxes, check-in/check-out, and end of stay cleaning are all included in the price. Additional car service or cleaning/linens can be arranged.

What makes this apartment unique

In the heart of Rome's Historic Center, just around the corner from the famous Spanish Steps, this spacious two bedroom, two bathroom apartment is surrounded by fine dining and fabulous shopping. It is within walking distance of the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, and many other historic sites and museums, and near the subway, taxi stands, bus stops, and bike rental. Located in a traditional Roman palazzo, the apartment was fully renovated in 2010 and is available for rental (5 night minimum).

Guestbook comments from the owner

Long before our trip, the owner sent us a hugely helpful list of resources and ideas of things to do in Rome; the apartment itself has every guidebook imaginable as well as maps, plus a binder full of tips on places to eat, places to avoid, how to navigate the subway (simple, as it turns out, and just steps away). Al that, combined with the unbeatable location, made us feel we had the inside track on the city. The apartment is very tastefully decorated, both modern and comfortable, as well as being quite large. At the end of a day of walking, it was great to sprawl out in the living room and watch a DVD or listen to music -- there are books to read, movies to watch, an iPod with a good selection of songs. The beds are comfortable and even on New Year's Eve, with fireworks going off all around us, we had no trouble at all sleeping thanks to the white noise machine in the bedroom. There's a lot of storage space and many thoughtful touches (umbrellas; bandaids; lots of soap; laundry detergent). It was like borrowing the home of a thoughtful friend who has great taste and a genuine desire to insure you have a good time. The apartment was the number one reason we had a wonderful time in Rome, and we will be back, Asap. [Posted on flipkey.com January 11, 2014]

Wonderful apartment - location couldn't be better!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a ten day stay in the Spanish Steps Apartment beginning in late October, 2017. The apartment was clean, well-appointed and "as-advertised" with respect to its proximity to many of the sights to see in Rome. A walk to the Spanish steps was about five minutes, the Trevi fountain less than ten minutes, and the Pantheon less than 15. There was abundant shopping in the area, not to mention fabulous restaurants at all price points within a radius of a few blocks. There were two cab stands within a few blocks of the apartment, and a grocery store and pharmacy right around the corner. Beds were comfortable, the bathrooms/showers were amazing and very, very updated. The owners were kind enough to provide numerous guides to Rome, along with a purse-size map that places a star over the apartment's location, so you always find your way home. I highly recommend this apartment for rental.

Enjoy Rome From this beautiful apartment

  • 5 of 5

Higher praise could not be given for this wonderful apartment located very near the Spanish Steps. From the comfort of fine linens to the well equipped kitchen and beautifully renovated bathrooms this home will not disappoint even the most discerning of vacationers. Most impressive is the amount of effort by David and

Sherri to set up a full understanding of things to do, places to eat and history of this amazing city. From the stacks of books available in the apartment on the history, architecture, tours to the extensive book compiled on restaurants, tours, taxis and everything else you could ever imagine you will easily be able to plan your Rome visit with ease. Add to that, the apartment comes with an iPad totally loaded with apps and maps pertaining to your every need. A huge thank you for making our Roman visit so perfect. We have traveled far and wide and hands down have to go out to you in saying you two have done a great job!!!! Thanks again. Karen and Paul October 2017

Everything you could possibly need

  • 5 of 5

I had a wonderful stay here in October 2017. The apartment is huge with plenty of space to relax and unwind after a big day sightseeing.

The location couldn't be more central - walk out the door and in two minutes you're looking up at the Spanish Steps. Walk the other way and in 7 minutes you're in front of the Trevi Fountain.

Accessibility is easy - there is an elevator if you need it and as the apartment is on the first floor, it is just as easy to use the stairs.

The kitchen is well equipped with a full sized refrigerator/freezer, oven/cooktop and a microwave. The owner kindly supplies bottled water, tea, coffee and sugar. There is an Italian espresso maker for the stovetop as well as an American coffee maker. The main bathroom is huge with a delightful shower rose and toiletries supplied. The second bathroom makes life easier if travelling with a large group.

I loved opening the living room window and watching the street life below. If you want peace and quiet, close the windows and you hear nothing - they are double glazed. The air conditioning was super cold and will be wonderful for hot days in July/August. I didn't need to use it often as I stayed in early October.

I can't recommend this apartment more highly. It feels like home as soon as you walk in. I can't wait to return. Thanks David and Laura.

Comfortable , clean and great location

  • 5 of 5

From the beginning experience was wonderful. Making the reservations, getting transportation from airport to apartment, checking in and out was handled with expertise.

Friendly driver meet us at airport on time, readily assisted with luggage and pointed out areas/sites along way to apartment.

At apartment we were greeted by very friendly representative of property management, who showed us around apartment and ensured we had everything we needed.

David (owner) provided us with list of very helpful information that provided recommendations of things to do, where to dine and shopping areas. The iPad came in handy as well.

Apartment was clean, in great location within walking distances to Spanish Steps, Trevi fountain, Pantheon, best shopping and several dining options - causal to upscale.

Highly recommend this apartment!
