About the property

Quandong cabin is a very affordable low key retreat perfect for couples. It has access to Harbor Point's private beach, set on 70 acres of virgin native vegetation, wonderful for nature walks along the cliff tops to discover caves, rocks and arches. It's own private beachfront allows small boats and canoes to be launched and moored for easy access to your favourite whiting spot or to explore an island. The cabins maximise the scenic views of the bay spanning from Venus Bay past the islands to Port Kenny, with wonderful sunsets and moonrises, plus the lights of the two towns by night.

Quandong is a basic open plan cabin with a double bed mattress, a set of bunk beds, kitchen, dining area, plus shower and toilet. There is an evaporative airconditioner for cooling and a new diesel heater for warmth. Quandong has a gas stove, crockery and cooking utensils. There is a gas BBQ, plus access to a common outdoor wood BBQ and camp fire area. Hot water and rain water are available. Quandong has a fridge/ freezer. There is a TV, radio and stereo for your enjoyment. A laundry and second fridge are available for stays longer than 7 days.

Plus your pets are welcome to have a great holiday adventure with you, but please be aware that we encourage wild life.

We do ask that you clean the cabin when you leave, cleaning eqipment is supplied.

We also ask that you show the property as much care and respect as we do, therefore if you are interested in hooning or partying please look else where as we do not tolerate excessive noise, hooning, wandering around other private dwellings or not tidying up after yourself.

A second larger cabin is also available if required, for further information please enquire or take a look on www.stayz.com.au/25761

ECO- FRIENDLY

The cabin is run by alternative energy, powered by solar panels and wind generators, with backup batteries. Quandong cabin has a 240 volt inverter for charging mobile phones, batteries and laptops, it can power other small electrical items (please check first). Why not try something different and support the environment..

Water is scarce on the Eyre Peninsula, so we do ask guests to be water wise and take short showers.

Disappointed

  • 2 of 5

Unfortunately, basic was an understatement. We did not expect a palace for the price but sadly we were quite disappointed.

Quiet, bushland surroundings

  • 3 of 5

A very quiet and cute cabin. Highly recommend for a day or two. Water not far away, 150 mtr walk. Great view. Flaws are, cabin gets extremely hot inside and with air con on it still doesn't cool down. Average temp inside was 34, but at night with cool breeze it was much better. Shower had little pressure I ended up washing in tub outside lol. These are not major things but definitely need rectifying as our pooches suffered to. On the plus, we can't be to picky as it was a cute place, had all basics and was at Venus bay. I recommend definitely staying here, but not if it's over 30 degrees and bring all bedding towels blankets and pillows (the bedding and pillows were badly used and lots of previous pooch hair all over, just made it feel a little in clean seeing this)..... over all highly recommend and we would definitely stay again in cooler weather, our kids (dogs) loved running through the bush onto water. Thank you for our stay. Oh, Julie was a delight to deal with and very professional.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review, we are looking at upgrading the power system to allow a better air conditioner. I have organised the plumber to come and fix the pressure in the shower.

Peaceful, Tranquil and oh the Serenity!

HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Wow. What can I say. My husband and I adore this place. Booked Quandong for a month. I love it here that much, I booked the bigger cabin close by Melaleuca for 2 months.

Was exactly what I needed being the first anniversary of losing my Mum. To be away from the hustle and bustle of the city and everyday life.

Being pet friendly, my 15 month Boxer dog absolutely loves running and water so being on 70 acres and less than 100 metres from the beach, he is in his element! My 11 year old Mastiff loves the water, smells and adventuring. It has given her a new lease on life. Julie and Andrew (the owners) even let me bring my baby lamb. She isn't weaned off of milk yet so loves going outside to nibble on grass, plants and learn.

Obviously, it is eco friendly. Possibly things may go wrong like loss of power, water but nothing major. Julie and Andrew are only a phone call away (even when I called with a question when they were overseas), and go above and beyond to help and resolve any issues.

Poor accommodation

  • 1 of 5

My husband and I stayed here with our small dog for 1 night in April. The booking was for 2 nights but we bailed out after 1 night. Now I have to be grateful as the number of pet friendly accommodation options in SA are limited to say the least. In many you can take your dog but it has to be left outside - not good for many dog owners. This place we were allowed to take her inside but this is where the praise ends I'm afraid. The cabins are very very poor, it is definitely accommodation on a tight budget. From the outside it was shabby and run down, you had to walk outside the cabin across the verandah to get to the bathroom with the wash basin outside on the verandah itself. Inside the cabin it was dark and dingy. It did had a fridge freezer and small TV which was a bonus but I would not stay here again.

Owner's Response: I am sorry Amanda that you did not find Quandong to your liking. We were planning on renovating Quandong, that is why you may have noticed black marks on the timbers that the builder was going to replace. The builder renovated our other cabin Melaleuca first and used up all the wood slats that were purchased to renovate both cabins and unfortunately we were unable to get any more of the slats from Port Lincoln or any of the other near by Eyre Peninsula towns. We now need to wait till after winter and it may now only be completed early next year. We do have a brand new house that may be more to your taste that is also pet friendly, but some guests do enjoy Quandong for it's simplicity.
