Needs more work and love to make it a great stay

  • 3 of 5

I've stayed at a lot of accommodation on Stayz and this is the first place which has been quite disappointing with the description and images not quite matching expectations. The place was renovated sometime ago, and requires some work with little things that would have made the stay much more comfortable. We stayed with friends, so the separate bedroom to the main house didn't work well, not because it was separate, but adjoining the bunk room meant that you had to walk into this room to access the bathroom and and those who needed access into the bunk room needed to go through the bedroom which didn't allow privacy. This meant if you were to wash your hands after using the bathroom, the sink was in the bunk room interrupting anyone sleeping in there. We stayed during a time where it was quite warm, to our annoyance the only cooling system was either leaving the windows or screen doors open, with screens requiring to be replaced (small holes and torn throughout letting mosquitoes in) or old floor fans. There was no ceiling fans and we couldn't stay in the house in the late afternoon as the house got hot and stuffy even if we left everything open. I can't imagine what the place will be like in the full heat of summer! We were lucky the nights were cool otherwise it would have been very uncomfortable to sleep. The balcony and the small courtyard had no shade, so an umbrella or some kind of shelter or awning is required as sitting in either places meant you will most likely get heatstroke if you sit around too long. There was some positives to the place, the kitchen was suitable with good appliances and the beds were comfortable. There was no wi-fi but it was good to get away from distractions. The place is quite close to the beach and near the only little coffee cart in Seals Rocks. The owners were also pleasant to deal with. Overall with a little bit more love this place could be fantastic as the sunset over the hills were quite spectacular.

Great cosy and clean family place!

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous stay and enjoyed being surrounded by trees and beautiful nature close to the beach. The house was clean, cosy with all we needed. The layout with bedrooms and bathroom each in two different parts of the house was a perfect fit for us. Plus whales in the bay every day!

Surfing seal

  • 1 of 5

No contact from owner to let us know how to get in found the keys in meter box had to walk passed the overflowing sewer pipe to get them. No sheets or pillow cases or towels would have been nice to know before arriving felt like we were camping. No hair dryer, fire was nice but no matches to light the bloody thing we have left a box in the kitchen for the next people. Main problem was we rang sent email and text and to this day still no contact.

Great house and great location

  • 4 of 5

We loved our stay at the Surfing Seal! Great little house for a family with kids, beautiful view amongst the trees. The house was clean, had everything we needed and was perfectly located, quick walking distance to the two main beaches. Highly recommend this place!

Fantastic property

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at the surfing seal. Beautiful outlook from the deck onto a Jungle like valley. The interior of the property has been really well renovated with a great relaxed atmosphere. The additional building holding the extra bedrooms is really close to the house and makes the place perfect for families too. Proximity to the shop and beaches was great also.

Clean and comfortable

  • 3 of 5

My husband and I and our 2 year old stayed at the Surfing Seal for 2 nights. We couldn't sleep in the main house because our son needs his own room, and i wasnt comfortable leaving him in the other part of the house on his own. So we slept in the other part which has 2 adjoining bedrooms. We felt like we wasted the best bedroom in the main house.

The place is clean and comfortable and well equipped but we felt it was way overpriced for what it was.

There was very good communication from the owner.

Owner's Response: Many thanks for your review Jodie, we certainly take on board your feedback. We do ensure that we make it very clear on Stayz and our responses to bookings that there are two separate sleeping areas.
