I own the 1850's Massanutten Springs (log cabin) -restored it and now is a weekend rental... I got started in this business because I was taking care of my mother and needed additional help - although mom (Charlotte Good Kibler) passed away before completion she would be proud I know. As a single mother I just want to provide for my daughter and her future, which is why I decided to purchase the Rock Tavern property when the opportunity presented itself - my late father Aaron P Kibler would be proud to see the Rock Tavern back in the family - Uncle Abe was his brother. I believe 'Horses can Soothe your Soul' - if you visit Massanutten Springs website under horse tales - you will see a few of ours! If you have never ridden, take a trail ride- you will love it, if you have your own horses- you already know...RIDE OFTEN! With portable fencing we can be horse friendly at both properties. Best Regards, Annette K. Cates
Annette Cates purchased this cabin in 2012
I am now the proud owner of the 1947 Rock Tavern Retreat as my late Uncle Abe and late Aunt Lizzie owned, built and tended bar in the original stone tavern for years. ATK & 1947 is still in the stone walls and I am grateful to have the opportunity to get this property back in the family and we ( my daughter Jade and I) look forward to sharing with our guests the awesome history of the Rock Tavern.
The 1947 Rock Tavern Retreat offers plenty of space for reconnecting with friends and family, a couples retreat indeed. The master bedroom suite offers an infared modular fireplace along with jacuzzi in master bath, has a private deck entrance and a fabulous view of the beautiful Shenandoah River. The theatre style leather recliners forces you to relax! The original stone shows thru in several rooms and just accents this cabin like no other...it is quite unique!
Seeing the cabin at dusk, I wasn't sure what to expect. We were utterly amazed at how lovely this cabin is on the inside. Both bedrooms were master in size and comfort, so there was no arguing where each couple was going to rest their heads. The kitchen was fully equipped and the living room was so comfortable, we almost wanted to spend our weekend inside! You can see the sunrise over the river outside the front door, and the property is beautiful. The weather was very windy but we were still able to enjoy a fire in the pit.. We will have to plan another weekend so we can relax in the spacious hot tub!
Spent a weekend here with family and friends. Very close to attractions in Luray and hiking on Skyline Dr. Feels like you are in the middle of nowhere but you can still get pizza delivered:) We enjoyed the hot tub on the deck under the stars and if it had been warmer weather would have enjoyed grilling and hanging out on the deck. The kitchen is well equipped and the beds very comfortable. Would not hesitate to stay here again!
I couldn't have asked for a better mini getaway. The cabin is absolutely beautiful inside and out. It is very clean and has all the necessities you need for a perfect vacation. Annette is super sweet and only a phone call away if you have any questions during your stay. I highly recommend this cabin to everyone. I can't wait to go back!
We stayed at the cabin during a road trip for our 25th wedding anniversary. We had a great time. The recommended restaurants and scenic drives were great. The bedrooms were very spacious and a nice extra touch with the fireplace. Our daughter was engaged during our trip on a tour of the Luray Caverns. This will be a great memory for our anniversary and our daughters engagement.
We stayed here for 5 nights and wished it could have been much longer.
The cabin is very well appointed and is very clean. The bedrooms and en-suite bathrooms are very spacious. The wrap around deck is also very good and we would have made much more use of it had we stayed at a warmer time of year.
Annette is very very good to deal with. She answered my queries straight away and gave us a full list of things to do in the area.
It is easy to get into Luray to eat, but with such a nice cabin, we chose not to. Walmart is only about 10 mins drive away .
There is so much to do in this area we could happily have stayed for the whole of our vacation and would love to return
I researched the cabin in Luray & I had a feeling we made a good choice because the owner made the rental process so darn easy. How right I was...my husband & I brought our Golden Retriever with us when we spent a few days at Rock Tavern Retreat in early Sep. We noticed right away how clean & cozy the cabin/deck were - we felt so comfortable. We absolutely loved the wrap-around deck & the 10 acres to walk every morning, noon & night...beautiful.
What a nice way to spend 3 days in the mountains of Luray. The cabin was so peaceful but we wished it was further away from the road. That would be the only reason that would prevent us from renting it again next year.
Bixler's Ferry Public Boat Landing is less than half mile away - you can put tubes in there (or fish from bridge) and float to private deck at #1 Rock Tavern River Kamp... (river access fee applies) / tube rentals available.
