This unit is on the first floor of a large ski house, that used to be a barn. The upstairs is unoccupied in the summers and could be added to the rental. It has 3 more bedrooms (2 queens and a bunk room with one bunk bed and one single bed), another fully stocked kitchen and two more bathrooms. Ask for an inclusive quote.
This winter season 2013/14 (Thanksgiving through Okemo closing in early April) the upstairs is rented to an Okemo ski instructor, his wife and their two daughters. So the house has the real authentic feel of a ski house. The hot tub is shared between the occupants of both units.
Some Background: This house has a long tradition in Ludlow, of being a welcoming place to spend a funfilled ski and snowboard vacation. The former owner John known to most as 'JD' was a much loved snowboard instructor at Okemo and rented the house for many years to friends, family and Okemo staff. Sadly John passed away in 2011 and now I, his wife, am carrying on his mission to provide a comfortable place to stay, that feels a little like home and is the perfect place to spend a vacation at any time of the year. I still live in town and if you ever need anything during your stay, just ask.
I grew up in Germany, went to high school in Ireland and to university in Ireland and the UK. In 2009 I moved to this beautiful part of the world before getting married to my husband John. He had bought the property in 1996 as a ski house for himself and his large group of friends from the Boston area. In 2003, John himself moved from Boston to Vermont and started working as a snowboard instructor at Okemo. Over the years this house has accommodated many instructors who worked at Okemo and John known at the mountain and in town just as 'JD' became a much respected member of the Okemo and Ludlow community. The 'Funhouse' became known as just that, a fun house. Sadly, John passed away in November of 2011 suddenly and unexpectedly. I, his wife, am now continuing John's passion and the mission of the Funhouse, to provide welcoming accommodation to visitors intent on experiencing the beauty of Vermont at all times of the year.
Uli Donohue purchased this apartment in 1996
Great place to stay. Very clean and relaxing. Central to lots of things to do. Hope to go back soon.
We are a family of seven and rented Uli’s home for a week getaway.
We were so pleasantly surprised that the house was so much nicer, larger, and more comfortable than the pictures show.
The house is super-clean, modern, well-stocked, and overall very comfortable. Additionally, the location is convenient to so many of the activities we did over our vacation as well as a two minute drive to the center of town.
My wife’s favorite part of the house was sitting on the porch each morning drinking coffee and chatting with a spectacular view of the mountain. My kids loved the free Netflix. And I just loved the overall comfort of the house.
The key to all of the above is Uli. She was easy-going and extremely accommodating from the start and clearly puts her guests’ comfort as a paramount concern.
We give the house five stars out of five and would add a sixth if we could for the price.
Planned a 3 night mini vacation in the Okemo/Ludlow VT area with our older (16,21,23) boys. Found Uli's place late one night and are SOOOO glad we did. The place was perfect for what we needed - big open living/dining area and kitchen area, lots of bed space -- and the price was excellent. So we booked thinking we got a good deal. We were wrong -- we got a great deal !! The place was cozy and comfortable and very clean. The bedrooms were well appointed and the beds comfortable. The living room was large enough for everyone to spread out and get comfortable. The dining area table was large enough for our boys, their friends, and the two of us to eat together...and play cards at later. The kitchen had everything we needed and was modern, clean and bright. And while the covered porch was not updated like the rest of the house it turned out to be our favorite place to sit and enjoy morning coffee or evening wine and beer. Most importantly we can't say enough great stuff about Uli - she was absolutely fantastic and accommodating. Her communication was excellent and she went above and beyond to set up a couple items we had inquired about. We will definitely be renting from Uli again next time we return to the Okemo area. If staying here we'd recommend Uli's place to friends and family as well as: breakfast at Vermont Apple Pie, wine at Stemwinders, pizza from Goodman's, beer at Killarney's. Also loved Long Trail on our trip in, the Country Store in Weston, Buttermilk Falls, kayaking Echo Lake, and the mountain coaster at Okemo.
Stayed with my sister in law and our 6 kids in summer. Property was well kept, fully stocked, and meticulously clean. Bunk room was great for kids. Enjoyed local ziplining and other activities at Okemo, nearby river tubing, and fun at the swimming hole (Buttermilk Falls). Uli was a pleasure to do business with. Thinking of renting again this winter for ski vacation.
This was a very clean and well maintained property. We stayed here mainly to sleep while attending a family re-union but it did not disappoint. Uli was a great communicator in preparing for our stay, sharing information and answering all our questions promptly and with great care. We would definitely stay here again if visiting the area in future.
The house is very well maintained and clean and had everything you need for a comfortable stay except wash cloths but if you know that ahead of time you can just bring your own from home. Uli contacted us with all the information we needed for our stay and if we are in ludlow again well defently look into renting again. Thanks uli!
