The property can be best described as your very own State Park. The hills, live creek, forest and lake make Creekside a great spot to unwind from the hectic pace of city life. Add two large decks 14'x24' and 14'x12' with lighted walkways and it's a perfect place to unwind both day and night. Walk the trails, sit on the many benches and cross the bridge to take the dirt road to the lake (approx. 7/10's of a mile)

Take the short ride, or walk to the community boat launch, park and playground and enjoy swimming or boating in Texas' best kept secret. The spring fed lake is always cool and refreshing.

The wildlife and birding are a favorite with all our guest. Fall and spring bring the migrations and birders seem to spot many species flying through as well as a many resident species.

The wildlife, especially deer is plentiful. It's not uncommon to see small herds of deer on the property.

Return home from a day of activities to grill and enjoy a game of horseshoes. When your ready to wrap it up for the day enjoy watching an evening of movies on Netflix instant streaming or cable television. The home is tastefully decorated and is modern and comfortable.

The Setting: Creekside sets on nearly 10 acres of land. The land is a very interesting piece with many interesting features. There are areas where springs run from the hillside and have washed away soil exposing tree roots. You will enjoy sitting on a bench looking at thousands of ferns, in the area our Niece aptly named 'Fern Gully'. See the conjoined trees, cactus, Holly Grove, hills, huge trees and beautiful dogwoods.

The bridge crosses the creek, set a while and enjoy watching the minnows dart around nibbling on whatever food washes their way. Benches dot the property and offer a variety of settings for you to enjoy.

The two decks are lighted and spacious, they are perfect for those that want to enjoy the solitude of your own personal park. Creekside provides much needed rejuvenation to those that suffer from the stress of city life. Come find the real you, it's hidden in there somewhere!

The Inside: When you walk up to the front porch the first thing you notice are the hanging plants and the cafe table and chairs. Open the front door and you will be amazed at the flow of the home.

Creekside, as are all our rentals, is used for Vacation Rental purposes only. You are not entering someones home and invading their private domain.

I was a builder my entire life and Creekside shows the small touches you won't normally find in a rental.

The tile and laminate floor, Granite tile counters, tiled tub/showers and lighting help make for a happy and relaxing stay.

The Living Room, Breakfast room and kitchen are all open and connected allowing your group to communicate and enjoy each other regardless of which room they are in. The bedrooms are roomy and comfortable, guest seem to compliment on the comfort of the beds.

The Decks & Trails: Yes I like building decks! The rear deck is a 14'x24' deck about 3-4' off the ground. Aside from your standard outside light it also has subdued rail lighting that offers a nice light that doesn't blind you.

When you walk off the main deck you will see a lighted pathway that takes you approx. 50 yards to a 12'x14' deck at the side of a hill. This deck overlooks a fern grove that is just beautiful. This deck (as does the upper) has an electrical outlet as well as rail lighting.

Near the upper deck we offer horseshoes with two areas to place beverages while throwing the shoes (yeah, we try to cover all those little issues)

We are constantly working on improving the property and adding trails. The underbrush has been cleared and the trees trimmed to provide a shade canopy that is absolutely stunning. Walking the property offers unique and ever-changing views.

As is the case with all our properties we seem to receive great and positive reviews.

The local area with the towns of Crockett, Grapeland, Lovely and Kennard offer a host of small hometown festivals. The Peanut Festival, Lovefest, and Christmas on the square are just a few.

Crockett host the States oldest fiddlers festival in October.

For those that like to hike, a short drive takes you to Davey Crockett National Forest where hiking is great!

Mission Tejas State Park is historic and has some really pretty hikes. Caddo Mounds State Historical site is home to the burial mounds of the Caddo Indians.It offers guided and self guided tours (check their web site for more info) and borders the Neches River which was the instrumental for their survival.

Take the hour drive to Lufkin and visit what I call the worlds biggest small zoo. It has an impressive array of specimens usually seen in much larger zoos. The beauty of The Ellen Trout Zoo is the small area it sets on. This makes it very personal and easy to's worth a trip!

A short drive away lies Grapeland Safari, it is a popular spot with our guests and has a web site under the same name.

About Mark & Brenda Copus

Brenda and I were attracted to East Texas because of its natural beauty. The rolling hills, creeks and heavily forested areas reminded us of our native New England.

When we first visited Houston County Lake we were hooked. We left the hustle and bustle of Spring (Houston) and settled for the small town charm and the prospects of building a Vacation Rental Business.

We built our first home (The Gregory) in 2007. Of course my business had been a life time of owning my own construction/ remodeling company in Houston. We labored on all our homes and were able to build them for much less than market pricing. This gave us the opportunity to rent well built, clean and maintained homes for much less than most any others could.

The Gregory was followed by Awesome View and eventually Creekside. All our homes are used solely for Vacation Rentals.

I was originally born in England and was young when my folks emigrated to Canada and eventually the U.S. with 4 kids in tow. You may notice the English connection with my love of gardening, something I credit my late Mother for instilling in me.

We work hard to provide a clean, comfortable and quality home at an affordable price, we think we do quite well at providing just that! We look forward to providing the same for you, your family and friends.

Why Mark & Brenda Copus chose East Texas

Creeksides land came up for sale and we simply fell in love with it. It was thickly overgrown but we managed to walk it and saw the possibilities the land offered. Being a builder has given me vision for a properties potential and I felt it would be a great homesite, People seem to agree.

We attract motorcyclist that want to enjoy the twisty country roads with nice elevation changes as well as dirt bikers seeking of road experiences.

We attract, birders, hikers, fisherman, and all sorts of people….perhaps most importantly, we attract families. As parents of 5 children we most enjoy hearing of families “re-bonding” and leaving with big smiles and tales of monster fish being caught.

It’s these moments that make the job of providing homes for vacationing families a rewarding business.

Lovely property with relaxing amenities

Very nice place. Clean and new facility with all the requisite amenities. Even enjoyed some Netflix movies. Peaceful property and some good easy walking roads. We don't fish - so didn't bring a boat or anything for the lake. But we did walk down there and sit and visit. A great place for R&R.

Weekend "get away" trip

Wonderful Stay, Once Again

This property is perfect for a couple or a family retreat. The price can't be beat, and the home is always perfectly clean and ready for your arrival. It's a great place to unplug, if one wishes, there is cable tv and netflix! The kitchen is spacious, just ready for the family to cook meals or use the outdoor charcoal grill. Love it and the owners are great as well!

Very Peaceful and Relaxing

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving stay. The cabin was remote, but not difficult to find thanks to the owner's directions. There are neighbors close by, but unless you wander through a wooded area to the back road behind the property and walk a ways, you would never know it! The lot is large, very private (locking gate at entrance) and very well kept. There are two decks; one large deck at the cabin, and another slightly smaller one close to the nearby running creek. Each deck has an ample number of chairs, a nice Weber grill, a table, and lighting options. The lighted path to the 2nd deck was a nice touch. The cabin was very nice and comfortable with two bedrooms with comfortable beds and two full-sized bathrooms. Everything was clean and well-maintained and all of the light switches were labeled, which was very helpful, especially with the outside lighting. There is also a fire pit just off the main deck with a good supply of wood and small starter logs.

One bit of advice here... As with all remote areas of East Texas, if you have AT&T as your cell carrier, the service is not good to nonexistent (Personally, I find this a plus-- it's supposed to be a getaway!). But the WiFi was very reliable and the owners have provided a LAN line with free long distance if needed.

We have stayed at quite a few HomeAway properties, and this one was definitely "as advertised" (no photo trickery on their site), and among the best-maintained and managed properties that we have been to. We do plan on returning next year!

This is the second time we have stayed at Creekside for Crockett's Christmas on the Square. This property is so much better than advertised. Super clean, super organized, and the communication on directions, entry information, etc. was perfect. It is an absolutely wonderful place to get away from it all and have some seclusion. Watching the deer in the morning is a great treat for us city dwellers. You need to stay here if it fits your needs. You will not be disappointed.

Creekside is located close to the Davey Crockett National Forest. Of course, it's biggest draw are the spring fed waters of Houston County Lake (not lake Houston). Trophy Bass, Crappie and catfish can be caught off the banks, or bring a boat to hit your favorite fishing hole.
