**Solitary Retreat**

Bedrooms 3
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Overlooking magnificent Mt Solitary and centrally located between Katoomba & Leura on the corner of the Cliff Drive and Merriwa St., this grand home has been lovingly and tastefully restored, maintaining the best of the original features whilst integrating the most modern conveniences including central heating.

Established in 2005, our guest book speaks for itself.

Featuring 3 bedrooms - 2 with double beds and the 3rd with 2 singles, a new country style kitchen and two new federation style bathrooms, one with a claw foot bath, Solitary Retreat has been returned to a time when a weekend in the mountains was a stylish and considered experience. Characterized by its living room with original cedar paneling, polished boards, Persian carpets and open fire, Solitary Retreat is a snapshot of life in the 1920's. Immerse yourself in the ambiance and delightful charm that this elegant home and its beautiful furniture creates.

And then there is the view.Solitary Retreat is blessed with one of the very few genuine uninterrupted escarpment views on the Cliff Drive. Enjoy Mt Solitary and the Jamison Valley with your morning "cuppa" from bed. When you have finished savoring the view, stroll across the road to the Prince Henry Cliff Walk and take a leisurely 30 min walk through the World Heritage listed national park to the Three Sisters and Echo Point or go the other way to Leura Falls and enjoy some of the best views the mountains have to offer. We are only a couple of minutes drive from several golf courses, walking distance to galleries and the tourist bus stops right out front. We are uniquely located between two of Katoomba's finest restaurants. The Rooster French restaurant is right next door (try the duck) whilst Solitary Restaurant and Kiosk is on the other side about 100 metres away. No need to drive. These two venues boast views to astound and cuisine to excite.

Awesome place to stay

  • 5 of 5

Were up in the mountains for the annual UTA 22km/50km/100km events over the weekend. The setup with the keys worked really well as we had 6 people.. (basically 3 couples) who at different times required access in and out. The house and facilities were as documented. Really couldnt say anything was wrong with thep place.

Very nice place, well-appointed and accessible

  • 4 of 5

This is a pleasant house, easily accessible. The accessibility was most important for us, as we had two guests with quite limited mobility. The owners were quick to reassure us that there are no steps at the back of the house and a walk-in shower in the main bathroom.

All was I order for our check in, with the entire house very clean and tidy and well-equipped with entertainment options. A good barbecue at the back (under cover) which was our solution both nights, given the good range of supplies at the local supermarkets. Comfortable, if quite hard, beds and clean and well-equipped bathrooms. Unfortunately, a storm knocked out the hot water, but this came back on stream quite quickly once we realised. Only real issue - and not a major one - was that the dishwasher needed a fair bit of repair and maintenance, but we all shared the chores, so not a problem there!

We'd certainly go back given the opportunity.

Splendid solitude!

This house is charming and comfortable, with a lovely woodsy feel. Great location - two local restaurants, ample peace and quiet, with great walks and beauty spots nearby.
