About Margaret Moore
I grew up in rural Gippsland and in my 20's, 30's and 40's travelled and worked in numerous different countries including Europe, North Africa and USA. Having done all the travelling I ever want to I was looking to secure a regional property for holidays and eventually retire. I stay at Moore House about once a month and take holidays there when possible. I revel in the secluded nature of the house and land and often take in and agist rescue horses free of charge.
Margaret Moore purchased this Cottage in 2004
Why Margaret Moore chose Piries
I was attracted to this property as it has several acres of land surrounding the house and a spacious, private garden offering numerous quiet places to sit and read and enjoy the expansive country views. Moore House isn't visible from the road and is peaceful and quiet except for the inescapable sounds of nature - frogs, birds and cattle.
What makes this Cottage unique
In winter this is a cosy , well appointed cottage close to the snow fields offering affordable self catering accommodation below the snow line. The wood-fired Coonara which is generously supplied with chopped kindling and firewood adds a warm glow to the living room. In spring, summer and autumn this is the perfect tranquil setting for a city escape. You can dine alfresco or sit and read and relax on the front deck, watch the water birds come and go and gaze endlessly at the uninterrupted views of the surrounding hills, bush and farmland. Swing in a hammock and read a book in the dappled shade of the cool cottonwoods. There's even a side table for a tea tray. On hot days enjoy a secluded outdoor shower with water heated by the sun and a view out over the creek and the weeping willows. Try it under the stars on a night when the moon is full! If you are quiet wombats, wallabies, hare and even kangaroos may visit the garden. Cattle are about and will curiously watch you to see if any food is forthcoming.

Picturesque country retreat
Moore House is a cosy cottage in very picturesque surrounds. Once the fire was going (plenty of chopped wood and kindling at the ready), the place stays nice and toasty warm. The beds were comfortable and linen clean. The kitchen had a good array of pots, utensils and crockery to create yummy winter meals. Only 15 minutes into Mansfield it is a great country retreat. Margaret was very responsive to any queries by phone or email.
We are so glad you enjoyed the house despite the very cold weather.
Beautiful Country Retreat
We loved our stay, Moore House is full of character and very tranquil. It had such a homely feel about it.
Our first proper holiday together. Such a lovely tranquil place for a family of people who were stressed out completely with day to day life and illnesses. Sitting outside with rolling hills as far as the eye can see and listening to cows and birds chirping, watching to sun come up and down again and just breathing deeply. Lovely hammock to lay under sun dappled trees. Would definitely stay again. Such a lovely lady who adds those personal little touches :) thank you once again.
Thanks Kath, for your very kind words. I try to make Moore House a personalized home away from home with all the amenities I enjoy when I go away. I am so glad you found and used the hammock! It is a fine thing to read in dappled shade swinging gently in the breeze! Kind Regards, Margaret Moore
Amazing artists retreat!
I loved staying at Moore house! The deck was perfect for morning yoga, the mezzanine was great for sitting and practicing guitar, and the woodfire was perfect to curl up beside and read a book! Perfect retreat!
I am so glad you enjoyed Moore House, Rachel. As a musician myself this is what I set it up for because there are not many properties where there is a piano in a private place conducive to relaxing and creativity.
We had a fantastic stay at Moorehouse. Was a great base for skiing at Buller and seeing the sights. Highly recommend
hi Jo, Thanks for your very positive rating, I really appreciate that and am glad you enjoyed the house as much as I do.
