My wife and I and our two young adult daughters live in the northern suburbs of Chicago. We would love to have you and your family as our guests in our home away from home.
Kevin Forrest purchased this cottage in 2003
My family and I have traveled to Door County since I was a child. My wife and daughters so loved spending time at my parents' home down the road, that we all decided that we wanted to own our very own slice of paradise.
We enjoy the very homey feeling that our property has. It is a very comfortable home with many places for relaxation.
My husband and I wanted to make a quick trip up to Door County, and we decided upon Hidden Glidden. We are so happy with that decision! We felt welcomed immediately with a lot of great information and amenities provided for us. We especially enjoyed relaxing on the screened-in porch off the side of the kitchen. We really appreciated how secluded the cottage felt, even though we were only a short drive away from downtown Sturgeon Bay. We couldn't be happier with our stay at Hidden Glidden, and we wouldn't count out visiting again.
We had a great time at Hidden Glidden Cottage! The house was perfectly outfitted and comfortable. It was clean and had all the things we needed for a fun weekend.
If I had any critiques it would be that the house was a bit far from town which can be tough with young children. We sometimes go back and forth multiple times per day due to nap schedules etc. and the other other thing on the topic of naps was that there were no curtains in the bedrooms. And while the rooms are private it's tough for nap time with small children in the middle of the day.
Everything else about our stay in Door County was wonderful and we would recommend the Hidden Glidden Cottage for sure. We took my almost 1 year old son to The Farm and had a wonderful time! It was a very cute attraction, perfect for young kids.
We stayed at Hidden Glidden in June 2016. Upon arrival, everything was as pictured - clean, organized, & it was very easy to feel at home. The kitchen contained some nice extras, such as condiments & coffee, & plenty of dishes/pots/pans. We definitely appreciated the cable tv (& air conditioner, though it wasn't needed during our stay) since Disney Junior is a staple for our 4.5yo daughter. She also loved 'adventuring' down the street to the beach entrance where she collected lots of shells.
The one thing we would change (or share with others considering staying here) is that there were no curtains/shades on the bedroom windows. This was fine for us, as adults, however our daughter goes to sleep at 7:30pm when the sun is still pretty bright. We ended up rigging some towels over the windows to darken her room, so it worked out okay, but is definitely something to factor in for families with young children.
While in Door County, we enjoyed stopping at Bay Beach in Green Bay on the way up, biking in Peninsula State Park, pottery painting at Hands On Art Studio, & ate at a fantastic pizza place: The Wild Tomato in Fish Creek.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Hidden Glidden. It's a bit off the beaten path, so if that's what you're looking for, this seems pretty ideal to me. For the price, the space and amenities (either they power wash the grill before everyone visits, or I was the first to use it; either way, kudos) are pretty spectacular compared to similar places in Door County. My ONLY complaint, and the reason I didn't give 5 stars, was the distance to the beach. The beach is across the road and up the street a bit (not that far, but...), so unless you have a vehicle with a rack for the kayaks, you'll be carrying them about 300 yards to the water.
Overall, it was a great weekend getaway, and I plan on visiting again.
This is my 3rd stay at Hidden Glidden and really enjoy coming back each time! It's the perfect combination of restful and relaxing, literally among the trees, off the beaten track, and close enough to fun activities! We hiked at Whitefish Bay State Park, visited Cave Point, trekked to the Cana Island lighthouse, enjoyed time at Peninsula State Park and Eagle Bluff Lighthouse, and lunch at Al Johnson's. At the cottage, we had leisurely mornings with coffee on the deck, fires in the fireplace in the evenings as we grilled outside, and then sat around the fire pit in the late evenings. Just enough of an opening in the trees to see brilliant constellations and the Milky Way in the night sky! We'll be back again!
Hidden Glidden Cottage is well equipped and spacious (inside and out) and well positioned for a holiday on Door County peninsular. The decor won't be to everyone's taste but that was not really an issue. We had a lovely week here in September. The weather was beautiful - sunshine and blue skies on most days. The cottage is surrounded by trees so might be a bit dark on non-sunny days. It has two large bedrooms and a spacious living/dining area. Only thing I missed in the kitchen was a kettle - had to use a saucepan to boil water for tea. The beach is reasonably close and is lovely and the water is clear. Glidden Drive road is very windy and not well lit in the night, so we tended to have a more extensive lunch and have snacks at the cottage in the evening. Really liked exploring the small towns along the coastline - especially Fish Creek.
