Classic Australian miner's cottage (circa 1860) set on over half-acre of garden.
Herrmann's Cottage is a classic Australian miner's cottage (circa 1860) set on over half-acre of gardens. It is fully self-contained and completely private.
Herrmann Blum acquired this half-acre allotment in the Parish of Maldon by Crown Grant in 1859. He established "a three-roomed weatherboard house with iron roof, two stables and outhouses". And today, as you enter Herrmann's Cottage, you can see the original three rooms are still there!
The cottage has recently been carefully redecorated throughout: retaining all the character but with the modern comforts. It features a traditional front verandah with slate paving, and inside there are the original dados and Baltic pine floors. There's a sitting room with a wood fire, three bedrooms, an updated bathroom with an original claw-foot bath and a brick paved courtyard with an outdoor table setting and BBQ.
Come and relax in the peace and tranquillity of Herrmann's Cottage and enjoy the experience of historic Maldon!
Rates vary based duration of the stay. Popular examples are: weekend (2N) $380; midweek (3N) $480; or for a one night stay $220. These rates are all inclusive for the cottage and no additional guest charges apply. The STAYZ / HomeAway pricing is a guide only - please inquire to confirm as discounts may apply.
Herrmann's Cottage is maintained with some essential provisions on-hand (eg some tea, coffee and milk is provided). And also included with the tariff could be some jams or chutneys, a nice loaf of bread from the Maldon Bakery, some fresh free-range eggs, or maybe some chocolates or a bottle of wine (the actual selection depending on the duration of your stay and what's suitably available locally at the time).
There are three (3) bedrooms. Two double bedrooms and a third bedroom with a single bed. The bed linen is provided.
The sitting room has a wood heater, a TV, DVD and CD player (and a small selection of DVDs and CDs).
The kitchen has an electric cook-top stove and benchtop oven, refrigerator with freezer, a microwave and essential kitchen equipment. The adjoining dining area seats 4 to 6 people. And there's an outdoor brick paved courtyard with a table setting and BBQ.
The updated bathroom has an original full size claw-foot bath. And there's a separate toilet (inside). Bath towels and essential toiletries are provided.
The laundry facilities include a front-loading washing machine, dryer, outside clothes line and an iron and full-size ironing board.
There's a handy carport and other easily accessible on-site car parking.

Great little Cottage!
We had the pleasure of staying at Herrmann's Cottage and were very impressed with how welcoming and cosy the Cottage felt! The gardens were affordable and the goodies on arrival were an extra Bonus. Definitely recommend to anyone who enjoys stepping back in time with the comfort of todays essentials.
The Gardens were Adorable! Not affordable!!!
Lovely trip down memory lane
I loved the styling and old furnishings. Was like revisiting my nans house as a kid! My teenagers were in a bit of social shock but I really enjoyed that they experienced such a quant little cottage. Loved the wood fire, little sad we were too busy to enjoy sitting in the quiet garden!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hermann's cottage and we loved the delicious food that was left for us for breakfast. We highly recommend this cottage.
Fabulous example of a miner's cottage, simply and sympathetically updated to have what you need in a b'n'b
Charming Miners Cottage
We stayed here last winter (apologies for delay in this review) and thoroughly enjoyed this cottage & would highly recommend. It felt like stepping back in time with the best of the original features ie lovely deep claw foot bath, wonderfully toasty wood fire, (already laid for us for a late night arrival) & small cosy rooms. There are electric blankets, oil burners (switched on for our late arrival) and a large private section within walking distance to town. The bottle of wine, homemade jam, chocolates & breakfast provisions were nice extras. Everything about this property, location & the town Maldon were spot on! Would absolutely stay here again thanks so much.
We had a wonderful stay. The property was so beautiful and tranquil. Just what we needed. Thank you.
