About The Owner

I am an electrical engineer, and my brother is a retired cardiologist. Over the past decades, we both spent many happy days in this house visiting our parents with our children.

The Owner purchased this house in 1960

Why The Owner chose Berkshires

My parents bought this house in 1960 as a vacation house. My brother and I now use it for vacation rentals as well as our for our own enjoyment.

What makes this house unique

Tanglewood Music Festival is just 20 minutes north (about 11 miles). For skiing, it's just 2 miles to Butternut, 10 miles to Catamount, 32 miles to Jiminy Peak. For hiking, there are trails everywhere including the Appalachian trail which passes by only 4 miles east of Great Barrington. Swimming and fishing are available at the many nearby lakes.

One of our favorite jaunts was the family climb up Monument Mountain at least once during each stay.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a great time. I already miss the house. It has great character, and I love the architectural details. We appreciated the improvements you made. We also enjoyed using the fireplace and your collection of DVDs. We also appreciated the wine and goodies you left for us. We would like to rent the house again next summer.

Incredible value for house with character

  • 5 of 5

This house has a lot of character--from architectural details and high ceilings to a well-chosen selection of books, music, and games and even a baby grand piano. The internet is fast and reliable and TV includes a network-connected Blu-ray player so you can connect to your own Netflix account. The location is near stores but feels like it's away from everything.

Excellent

  • 5 of 5

We recently stayed at Russ and Kathy's beautiful home for a month. It was perfect for our family of 5 and small dog. The house is completely furnished and has everything you need to include shampoo, soap, toilet paper, etc. You don't need to bring a thing.

Prior to our arrival, Russ and Kathy were very thorough and prompt with communication. They gave us very detailed instructions about anything we would need to know.

During our stay, one of the bed frames broke when our daughter was sitting on it. I mentioned it to them right away because I didn't want it to affect our security deposit. They responded immediately and a new bed was delivered promptly the following morning which I did not expect! It was not a big deal as we had enough beds, but they were very apologetic about it and took action instantly.

The home is located just a short ride to town and to skiing. It is quiet and relaxing. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and couldn't have asked for more accommodating hosts. We would definitely come back.

Great house and great owners

  • 5 of 5

8 of us (2 families of 4) stayed here over the MLK weekend and went skiing at Butternut and Catamount. Very convenient to Great Barrington and Butternut. The owners were very accomodating, leaving nice touches like tons of towels. The board game collection was a lot of fun too! We've stayed at several places in the area and this is by far the best.

Felt right at home immediately

  • 5 of 5

This older home has so much character. The setting is convenient to Great Barrington and Stockbridge. It has a lovely property complete with a river running through it. The owners thoughtfully supplied everything we needed including soap and shampoo in the bathrooms. This was a wonderful find. I will definitely stay here again.
