'Guest Rating: ***** 5-Star. The Cottage is a perfect place for a getaway with someone you hold dear. The view is worth more, way more, than what is regularly charged to stay in "The Cottage". Also, the close proximity to everything on the north shore is a big plus!'
Paul D., Oakland, CA
'Besides the drop-dead views, location, et al, of this true 5-star lodging, we have to mention the tremendously comfortable bed, lovely quality linens, pillows, decor,... just everything is want-to-take-home-for-my-own-house GREAT!' Lois and Jim, Denver, CO

Why Susan Wilson chose Kauai
'THE COTTAGE' is one-of-a-kind NON-HOTEL ... BUT with hotel views and privacy and comfort and convenience ... and ... at a very great price compared to what the St. Regis at Princeville charges for a room with a view.
What makes this Cottage unique
Convenience, coupled with the WOW factor Kick + Surprise every time you open 'The Cottage' door, or, when you pop out for snorkeling at Anini reef just below at lovely, secluded, sandy Kaweonui beach cove, or, take a great warm outdoor shower, or, walk the neighborhood, or, ... do any one of the variety of adventures all of which can easily be topped off with a sit/soak in the private large comfortable spa sipping a glass of bubbly. The list goes on and on and on-- in a good way!

Wonderful accommodations in a gorgeous part of the world!
Lovely spot overlooking the ocean. Wonderful sunrise this morning. Enjoyed our stay very much.
We enjoyed the cottage immensely. The photos really do depict the gorgeous views. It was a pleasure driving through the beautiful neighborhood. All the little touches of hospitality are well thought out and made for a gracious stay. The hot tub is amazing. We used it each day. My only caution to future guests is to possibly avoid the month of March. All of our previous visits to Hawaii have been in the summer. I guess it can be nice in March but honestly we saw sunshine only 3 out of 10 days. Obviously this does not reflect on the cottage itself but it certainly colored our vacation. Mahalo for providing a beautiful welcoming place to stay.
A quiet cottage with broad ocean views on the beautiful north side of Kaui
We stayed at this property late February, 2018 and loved our time there. The house is very clean, quiet and well furnished for a cosy comfortable retreat in the heart of the beautiful Kaui north side. It has a nice (but tiny kitchen) with a small fridge and stovetop. Who wants to cook on vacation anyway? There is a large private deck with lounge chairs and hot tub and an incredible view of the ocean. There are also huge windows lining the bedroom/living room space all with views. To manage expectations better, the path to the beach below the house is narrow, steep and sometimes slippery in places and we found the beach itself to be pretty, but the water too shallow for comfortable snorkeling. No worries, since there are other beaches and places to snorkel on the island or you can take a cruise that includes snorkeling. In general it rains a LOT during the winter on Kaui and most paths are red clay which turns to mud. We found we were not able to do as much hiking and snorkeling as we would have liked due to this. It’s a beautiful island and worth the visit, but beware that there is much more rain than the west side of Maui or the big island.
First, the photos of the view from the deck cannot capture what it's like to wake up to the sound of the waves and look out and see albatross flying and the occasional whale breaching in the distance (cottage has binocs but bring yours if you have them). The view would be enough reason to book the cottage standing alone. The cottage has everything you need to make it the perfect home base to explore Kauai. Big garage with full laundry, all the beach stuff (chairs, snorkeling, cooler, boogie boards, etc.), nice hot tub on the deck, second sun porch out of the wind if it's cool, well-equipped kitchen, and very comfortable living space. You could literally show up with just your clothes and be fine. The owner thoughtfully left us coffee, juice, and snacks for the first morning and had the hot tub warm when we arrived after a long day of travel. You are close enough to Princeville to walk for dinner/drink/groceries, but you are at the end of a cul-de-sac and never hear a car or even another person. Nice path to the beach below (a little careful stepping required in one spot, but not difficult) where the snorkeling was good. Tons of fish. It's like your own private beach. Pro tip for Kauai: if you're planning to do a lot of hiking (like we did), bring a pair of old running shoes you can toss in the trash at the end. They will be muddy beyond belief. Pro tip 2 for Kauai: the food trucks and hole-in-the-wall take out shops are better than the nice restaurants. Highest recommendation for the cottage (and Kauai).
What a pleasure to have such wonderful guests take time to share observations, thoughts and useful insights about "The Cottage", its surrounds, and Kaua'i. If you could see me now, I am sitting here with a gentle-large filled with ALOHA smile. As we say in Hawaiian: Mahalo, Mahalo, Mahalo nui loa!

Unique, relaxing, awesome!!!
The cottage had an exceptional ocean view with a trail down to a hidden beach with great snorkeling. Albatrosses were soaring and nesting all around!! Loved the outdoor shower!! Easy access to Princeville and Honalei!!
Sharing ‘The Cottage’ ... plus ... soaring, dancing, nesting Albatross, with lovely, gracious guests such as yourselves was ... nui loa maika’i (my pleasure).
Me Ke Aloha,
This property is exactly as the other reviewers described: a magical paradise! The cottage was the perfect setting for celebrating my hubby's birthday. Upon entering, we were greeted by Susan and an expansive panoramic ocean view that took our breaths away. We're an older couple and my hubby has some mobility issues. One of the reasons we selected this property, aside from the stunning views, privacy and 5-star reviews, was the ground-floor, easy accessibility of the property. We were able to park our car in the driveway which is immediately adjacent to the cottage gate. All was simple to unload our suitcase and to go in and out during the day.
While we didn't hike down to the beach cove below, it was a short, scenic drive to Hanalei Bay beach and a very quick drive to the Princeville Center (without having to get on the highway), where we could grab breakfast, coffee, and a few goodies from the Foodland market. It was also very short distance to the St. Regis resort, where we enjoyed a fantastic buffet brunch on Sunday (reservations recommended), and a few minutes drive to the Princeville airport, from where we took an unforgettable helicopter tour of the island.
The hot tub was a real treat, especially at night with the sound of the waves crashing below and the many visible stars overhead. I've found many hot tubs to be challenging to turn on/off and heat up, but this was a simple push of two buttons and in 20 minutes, the water was warm and relaxing.
We were delighted to meet Susan upon arrival and hear a bit about her life on her beloved island. Susan was staying in her home during our visit, but we honestly would not have known she was there -- this cottage is that private. However, we were grateful she was easy to reach when we had to call upon her to come to our rescue after locking ourselves out on the lanai, LOL. It all worked out fine and gave us a memory to chuckle about.
I cannot image ever staying anywhere else should we visit Kauai again. Hoping it will be for MY birthday next time. Thank you, Susan, for sharing your stunning property and for being such a wonderful host!
Oh, WOW + MAHALO for the lovely, thoughtful, fun comments. “Kipu hou mai” (come visit again). Nou ka hale (The Cottage will be yours). Me ka pumehana a me Aloha (with warmth plus great Aloha)!
