A family vacation to remember! Our guests have been telling us they LOVE it since we first made this historic home a vacation rental in 2011. Why they tell us they love it: Great space both inside and out, comfortable, clean, nice decor, great location (steps to beach and activities). This is a family owned and operated cottage and we take delight in insuring that our guests have an enjoyable vacation. Each winter, the owners spend the weekend in the house to review the guest experience and insure that our guests will have an inviting and comfortable vacation. Our4 bedroom, 2 bath vacation home, is family and pet friendly; steps to the beach, shops and restaurants, please come and enjoy!!!
The beauty of the Beachcomber I is it is perfect for families and couples. The first floor bedroom and bathroom, give a couple looking to get-away great one-story living. If you have a family with you, the three bedrooms and one bath upstairs is great for family and friends.
The enjoyment of the Beachcomber isn't limited to the house. It has a fenced yard, great for children and pets. A kids clubhouse is in the backyard. Relax in the hammock under the holly tree, or read a book under the Magnolia Tree. Also we feature a gas grill and covered picnic area; great for crab picking! And just steps from the house are restaurants, shops, the beach, and fishing pier...be sure to get a soft serve ice cream at Nancy's or visit with Rocky across the street at Densons for great sandwiches and fresh local seafood and delicious hard scooped ice cream!
Colonial Beach, Virginia...the Gateway to the Northern Neck of Virginia is a beach front haven, less than 2 hours from DC, along the Potomac River. Many say, it is place that time has forgotten with its slow pace, friendly people who wave as they drive past you on their golf carts, wide beaches where the Potomac River is 4 to 6 miles wide, within minutes to historical attractions; George Washington's Birthplace; the Lee Family Home, Stratford Plantation, explore Westmoreland State Park, and find Shark's teeth and more, great boating, fishing, crabbing, and discover the Chesapeake Bay Wine Trail, Westmoreland Berry Farm. several great waterfront restaurants, waterfront live bands on weekends during the summer, great crabs. Just a quick hour away is Kings Dominion Theme Park; featuring great rides and water-park.
Thanks for looking and be prepared to fall in love with Colonial Beach and the Northern Neck!
Colonial Beach is along the Potomac River; 60 miles down river from Washington DC...so close, but a world away!
There are three families that own The Beachcomber. Each of us contribute our special talents from renovation, decoration, marketing, and management. I have worked in the hotel industry all of my career and enjoy welcoming people to our home or to several of the rental properties we own; so I speak on behalf of all of the owners; we look forward to having you and your family as our guest.
Cathy Bokman purchased this house in 2011
My husband George and I first discovered Colonial Beach on a day trip adventure from Chevy Chase, Maryland about 9 years ago. After several weekends, we bought a small cottage. Through the years, we have had lots of friends and family stay with us. All of them have fallen in love with the Town of Colonial Beach. One summer my sister and George's brother started to look at houses; and together in February of 2011; all three families joined together to buy this house built in 1940. All of us, with help of some great professionals have been working hard through a renovation to make it ready for guests this summer. We chose this house because of its great spaces, yard, and a location that is convenient to everything the beach has to offer.
What are guests share with us they love about the house is comfort, location, and space.
Let me start with space. On vacation being together is fun, but sometimes different groups want to do different things and this house is great for being together, yet finding your own space. The house features two living spaces, sun porch, eat-in kitchen and dining space. Additionally, the large fenced yard with the covered picnic area, shaded and sunny areas, and playhouse offers something for everyone.
You can't beat the location if you want to take advantage of everything the Colonial Beach has to offer! House is just 2 blocks from the beach and fishing pier. It is less than one block from restaurants, library, museums, and churches for most denominations.
Comfort is a combination of the space and decor. Our guests always comment that it is a pretty house. They are comfortable and enjoy the well stocked kitchen, games, books, toys in the playhouse, assorted bikes and beach stuff.
Plenty of: well kept clean space; towels; hot water; and hospitality! There is little else that needs to be said for this quiet getaway for our family reunion. There were a couple blips with the internet service caused by the cable company that the owners immediately addressed.
The only issues we had were the ones that we were expecting, jellyfish and mosquitoes in Colonial Beach. To avoid the jellyfish we went to Dalgren Wayside on the south side of the Potomac River just before the RT 301 bridge. On the two days we went there, no jellyfish were spotted and we were the only ones at this small shallow beach. We also went to the pool at Westmoreland State Park one day. As for the mosquitoes, a light spray of repellent on our legs kept them away.
We would not hesitate renting this house or one of the other two owned by this owner for a future stay.
We enjoyed our stay at the Beachcomber I property. It was clean and comfortable with a wonderful yard and location.
We had a great weekend enjoying the beach and the music at the Black Pearl Tiki Bar.

We booked Beachcomber 1 for our 3 generation family to enjoy. We all have different likes for our vacation (beach, history, quiet, busy!) and our week in Colonial Beach at this property had them all.
The location was great - just a block or so from the beach and 15 to 20 minute drive to some historical sites.
The week we stayed included a festival so we had bonus amenities close by allowing the kids to enjoy pony rides, fairground rides, parades and pony rides in addition to the beach.
Colonial Beach in early June is quiet - but the festival meant that we had some bustle in the middle weekend.
The home was clean and well maintained with plenty of space and amenities for all. There is a lovely fenced in garden and the kids loved exploring the toys in the shed. The adults enjoyed the books and multiple sitting areas to escape the noise of the kids!!
Cathy was great answering questions prior to our stay, even calling the day of arrival to ensure that I was set with directions.
We would definitely recommend this.
This property was perfect for us, since it was close to the Beach, and the Gym. It is right in the Downtown area, so you can walk to shopping and dining. Open lot on the side, allows renters to enjoy the backyard area with a feeling of privacy. Landscaping needs some attention around the driveway and back entrance, as it is difficult to get out of the car and in the door without damaging the vegetation. Loved the decor inside, and the covered patio!
The only disappointment about Beachcomber I was that we eventually had to go home! The house (beautiful and big), the location (in the center of town and only a block from the beach), the yard (securely fenced), the towels (big and fluffy) left nothing to be desired. We made arrangements to travel on Saturday evening and arrived on Monday afternoon - myself, my daughter and six children (ages 2-17). The house was clean, comfortable and roomy enough for all of us. With the eat-in kitchen, big and bright dining room, and two porches! who could want anything more? Especially useful to us were the wall hooks in each bedroom and bathroom and the stepping stool. Four days at Beachcomber I provided the perfect R&R for us after this miserable, never-ending winter. We hated to leave, but certainly will be back.
Stayed here over the Christmas and New Years holidays. Cathy was amazing! She set up a tree and Christmas decor in the home before we arrived. The house turned out to be great for all of us. Plenty of games in the home and plenty of cookware to make the house really feel like a home away from home. We will definitely return to this or one of her other rentals.
