Makena Memories: Our home has such wonderful memories for me...My grandparents originally built the little cottage as a place to come to on the weekend to go 'Hukilau' which means fishing. My first memories are of the original design of the house...it was completely open on the front. Where the bedroom is now, had benches all the way around the sides. In the middle where the bathroom is, was where they locked up the bedding and cots. The kitchen was the kitchen and the bathroom was actual built next to the cottage and my grandfather kept his most precious posessions in there...his lawn mower and fishing nets. We had so much fun, everyone together like a big camp out, some in hammocks others on army cots, but all of us watching the fireworks in the sky. What I realized as I got older was that it wasnt fire works but the military bombing Koholawe island.
Through the years I learned how special our place is. I grew up there, learned to swim, got married there and now my son gets to experience it too.
My name is Wendi and I was born on Maui in Kula. Every weekend we as a child we would come down and spend it in Makena. It is a very special place to me and I know as soon as you visit, it will become one for you too. We are not a hotel or condo, but a little slice of heaven. I try to make sure that your stay is a special one. I can talk about it for hours so if you call, make sure you have some time! I dont offer online booking because Id rather get to know my guest and make sure they feel comfortable with renting from us.
Wendi Brandt purchased this cottage in 1946
This property has been in my family for 3 generations and will stay in my family for many more. My grandmother use to say Makena means work' and I didn't understand until I was older how much I was willing to work to preserve our little slice paradise.
Waking up to the sounds of the waves on the shore. Having coffee while watching the turtles feed off the rocks. Picking mango's and bananas right from the trees for breakfast. Its not a condo...its your own place to enjoy.

Now been there a 3rd time - still: What a fantastic spot - like a place in paradise - sunsets incredible - chill out at the ocean front - quite - clean - expensive - equipment/furniture need sooner or later an update
Wendi's property was incredible - the location couldn't be more perfect and is absolutely beautiful. The house is in a peaceful quiet location right on the water, a 5 minute walk to a beautiful quiet sandy beach and yet only a short 10 drive to the stores and restaurants at Wailea.
Wendi couldn't have been more helpful throughout our stay. We arrived the day Tropical Storm Darby was due to hit and she made us feel safe and reassured with an emergency back up plan to go and stay with her further inland if at any time we felt worried. In the end the storm passed with no damage so we were fine but it was great to feel she had everything worked out. She also arranged us a great deal when we needed to stay an extra night when our flight was cancelled at the end of the trip.
Overall, a truly fantastic host and amazing place to stay. Can't recommend this place enough. Thanks Wendi !
We loved the property! The location was perfect for us, convenient to shopping/services, yet private enough to be isolated from "resort" life. Ocean in the front yard and fruit trees in the back! the mangoes were delicious as were the apple bananas! We hope to use this property again on our next trip to the islands.
Our stay at this McKenna Beach property was amazing, the property has it all, some of the best snorkeling of all the Hawaiian Islands right in front of the house, all of the charter boats come to this little bay with their customers to give them the snorkeling adventure of a lifetime, their are so many green sea turtles here in this little bay everyday that the charter boats take people out to see Molokini then bring them straight to this location to swim with the turtles that are so friendly they swim right up to you and check you out.
We experienced some of the most breathtaking sunsets sitting at the edge of the property that butts right up to the water that we have ever seen, every picture we took looked like a post card. The BBQ on the property was a life saver for cost savings on dining out, plus didn't heat up the house from cooking inside. The house is very comfortable and clean, I was a little concerned when I noticed that the house didn't have air conditioning, we are from southern California and are not used to any humidity so it felt a little warm to us at first, but as the sun sets the breeze would kick up every evening and cool things down nicely, to the point of having to close some of the windows at night to stay warm enough.
The property owner (Wendi) was so great to work with setting up our stay, if she says it will happen you can trust her to get it done for you. I fished two days on and around the property and caught several species of fish had a great time doing so. Our stay was so relaxing, we spent most of our days with activities galore and for our evenings we didn't care what we were offered or planned it couldn't compare to sitting in a lounge chair watching the sunsets at this cottage.
Thank you for one of the best vacations we have ever taken!

If you come to Maui to relax and spend your time enjoying nature then this is the perfect place. Quiet and serene day and night. Sunsets over Molokini with whales and sometimes spinner dolphins in the distance. We enjoyed flashlight walks at night to see the deer in the ravine between the house and golf course.
Family of four fit very comfortably with the master suite added in. Everything you need is provided for, clean and updated. Really cannot say enough about how perfect this property is.
My family and I had an amazing unforgettable time staying here. The memories made here are unforgettable. From the moment we drove up we were in Love with this home. It was even more than we had expected. The walk up the lawn with the fruit trees to arriving at the back yard to the best view of the ocean was breathtaking. We had fun snorkeling with the sea turtles off the back and relaxing in the hammock enjoying the views. The home had everything we needed to cook and BBQ our meals and enjoy them outside on the picnic table overlooking the water. The house was very nicely decorated and well-maintained. I highly recommend staying here as my family and I enjoyed every moment at this wonderful cottage. Frank and Wendi were incredible in ensuring everything was going well during our stay. Thank You for sharing this for others to enjoy!
