Having grown up in North Carolina, I moved to Alaska at the age of 21, where I lived and worked for 19 years and where all 3 of my boys were born. We moved back to NC in 2003 and lived in Hart House as a family until 2011. With 2 of my 3 boys away at school, my sons and I no longer needed such a big space but did not want to part with our beloved family home. So, the decision was made to move into a smaller property and offer Hart House to guests who wanted to experience a wonderful western North Carolina retreat together in one house - not in a hotel. It has been more rewarding than we could have imagined to know that groups of families, friends, business colleagues and wedding parties have come together to enjoy the Asheville area and the home that we love. If you are reading this...I hope that we can make your stay in the Asheville area the best that it can be!!
Mary Hart purchased this house in 2003
Hart House was purchased as a family home because I wanted to live, work, and raise my children in the Asheville area. Western North Carolina is beautiful, the people are genuine, the culture is outstanding, and there is more to do here than there is time in which to do it. It is wonderful to see people from other places enjoying the beauty and character of the Asheville area!
My favorite things about Hart House: sitting in front of one of the fireplaces on a winter's night; cooking for groups of friends or family - 3 ovens and lots of counter space make it SO much easier; sipping a cup of tea on the front porch on a peaceful, warm Spring morning; roasting marshmallows around the campfire pit in the lower yard; grilling dinner on the back porch while enjoying a glass of wine and music with my family and friends.
The Hart House was nothing less than perfect for our small wedding. Mary was graciously hospitable, and made us feel right at home as soon as we arrived. The house was set up perfectly for our intimate wedding and we were sad to leave such a beautiful estate. We will be returning for family reunions in the future. We highly reccommend this rental for any occasion.
The Hart House is beautiful and the grounds are lovely. The house was immaculately clean and the local popcorn that awaited us was delicious. The house is spacious and well equipped and I would love to visit again in warmer weather to enjoy more of the property. Amoreena was very helpful and easy to work with. I would highly recommend this house for large groups who want to spread out a bit.
Mrs. Hart was literally the most wonderful person my family and I have ever met. Indeed - no exaggeration. My husband and I wanted a small wedding with only about 40 guests, with a place large enough for his family to stay from Indiana and mine to come from 3 hours east in North Carolina. We held our ceremony and reception on the grounds and had an incredible time. The landscaping on the property is impeccable, and we had over 50 people in the home at one time, with room for catering, cake cutting and dancing on the patio and in the kitchen! It felt like home, was cozy, beautiful, and despite a bit of rain as our vows were said, we had the perfect, most beautiful day. You can't put a price on worry-free, pristine accommodations for guests, and the personal touch of being able to drive up to the House and get a personal tour prior to the wedding day. Mary is WONDERFUL. WONDERFUL! She made the most beautiful day of my life FLAWLESS. I think we'll do anniversary's there, too! Asheville is only a few minutes away...
Hart House is a wonderful place to stay. The kitchen was very well equipped with 3 ovens, a very large refrigerator, enough room for 5 or 6 of us to be working at the same time, many spices and all the ingredients to make s'mores. There was plenty of split wood for the fireplace and very nice toiletries in the bathrooms. The bedrooms and baths were spacious with lovely linens and comfortable beds. I can't say enough good things about Hart House and hope to rent it again next Thanksgiving for my large family.
A home for four nights, luxuriously provisioned and with endless personal touches, beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean, Hart House gave us and our family a needed retreat during our sons wedding celebration. The glorious Western NC mountains in all their autumn splendor surround this large, quiet, comfortable property. Only 24 minutes from downtown Asheville, tucked away in the mountains with easy access to Biltmore and Chimney Rock, the house has room for at least four family units. The beds were super comfortable, bathrooms all spacious and had lots of thick fluffy towels. The kitchen was a chefs delight and cleaned up in a trice. We spent all our time in the large 'great room' hanging out and chatting. Thank you to Mary and her assistants for a smoothly run, welcoming, delightfully hospitable North Carolina weekend. We will be back!!!
Five stars is not enough to rate Hart House! We had seven families staying with us for our son's wedding and they all fell in love with this home. Because the rooms were so spacious at no time did we ever feel as if we were crowded together. The home was outstanding both inside and out. From the fully stocked kitchen, to the comfortable beds, and the entire house, including the grounds, were spotless! The bedding and towels were quality caliber, and there were plenty of towels! We enjoyed our morning coffee on the front porch every day watching the wild turkeys come marching across the lawn. The upstairs guests were especially appreciative of the upstairs coffee center, I made sure coffee was always made so they would awake to the smell of fresh brewed coffee and all they had to do was step out of their bedroom to get a cup! Wonderful idea Mary! We hosted the rehearsal dinner here in the back yard, what a complete success! The play area for the children was fantastic, there was so much room for the tables under the trees, and we still had room for bocci ball setup and corn hole toss. It was a totally wonderful evening! We would highly recommend this home, it is truly a place to stay when you have a large group of all ages!
