Lovely country retreat

  • 5 of 5

Have taken home some great memories of this place. The house and surrounding countryside is beautiful and the daily proximity to all the animals was wonderful. I have never seen a wombat so often and up close in my life, nor had pretty chickens following me around the gardens. The fireplace and wide verandahs around the house made the whole winter holiday stay so cosy. Spectacular starry skies with great winter bonfires to watch in the back paddock at night. Scott's Hut is a place where you can truly relax and be happy to hang out and chill or go exploring all the gorgeous countryside/mountains/ rural and seaside towns close by. Thanks Cassandra for a great winter getaway I will always remember.

Owner's Response: Thanks Cherie for showing so much interest in the house, nature, farm and native animals, birds and native flora. I thoroughly enjoyed showing you around the property and conversing with you about 'living on a rural property'. I always appreciate guests who enjoy the whole experience of being here. Historic Scotts Hut is more than just staying in a house.

Lovely Rural Retreat

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our holiday at Wyndham. It was a great place to relax. The Hut was very good value for money and being able to holiday in such an historic building was quite special.

Despite being requested not to post a review unless it was 5 stars, I wanted to post one.

We didn’t realize that the caretaker lived so close to the Hut (in the outbuildings), as this wasn’t mentioned on the website and the laundry facilities on the Hut’s back verandah were shared. We felt we lacked privacy.

The Hut was advertised with Wi-Fi, but we had to share the modem with the caretaker and we had to ask for it each day. Once the caretaker went out very early and left the modem off, so there was no Internet until the evening when she returned. When the modem was in the outbuilding with the caretaker, reception in the Hut was very poor.

I know some people look forward to being off the grid whilst on holidays, but 2 of our group needed to be contactable 24/7, and, if Wi-Fi is advertised, it really should be available.

The heater froze over each night, so we relied on keeping the wood fire going overnight for morning warmth. Fortunately the men in our group were happy to chop wood for the fire.

We found the Hut sparkling clean - the caretaker clearly goes to a lot of trouble to ensure that it is spotless.

The Hut is in a fabulous location for a bush retreat. There were lots of animals to enjoy– cows, chooks, sheep, wombats, kangaroos, rabbits and birdlife.

Being winter the deciduous garden was tempting us with the promise of Spring beauty and bounty of Summer fruits.

Owner's Response: Thanks for you comments Jacky. As discussed with you via email I shall address some of the concerns that you raised. The fully ducted in each room airconditioning might need a service but then again with -5 and -7 degrees outside perhaps it did not cope and that is why there is FREE wood for guest use. The offer of internet is a new feature for guests convenience and I am sorry to hear that you were not happy to share it as previous guests have been very happy to share it. At $120 per night for 6 adults to stay is only $20 per night per person and your 3 dogs stayed for FREE in a $7,000 dog run. Perhaps in the future you should stay at a $300 to $400 a night property to satisfy your very high expectations. Scotts Hut is incredibly good value for money and ALL of my guests over 12 years have been extremely satisfied with their stays.

Great Place

Cosy cottage with every comfort that we needed. Enjoyed the combustion fire and huge tv with foxtel. Then walked around the property to look at various native trees and animals. The black and white cows were gorgous.

Surpassed all expections

  • 5 of 5

First of all, we'd like to apologise profusely for delaying our review. We stayed at Scotts hut last November and never got around to giving you the 5 star rating that you deserved. I was there with my boyfriend Zaar and our dog Jack. Zaar gave you a hand to unload the hay from your ute. We had an amazing time at Scotts hut. We never felt that there was anything lacking, rather, we had more than we could possibly need. It was our first getaway together and it was perfect. The house provides a very warm and cozy atmosphere. Thank you Cassandra for letting us use the paddocks for our dog, he had a great time as well. Thank you for the wonderful experience, and sorry again for the delay in review. Kind Regards, Vivienne and Zaar

We loved everything about staying at this house which had a wonderful relaxed feel. Both the house with it's unique interior and the property surrounds was spacious and inviting, and our kelpie was delighted with her freedom! We had a hard time leaving!! Definitely be back, hopefully sooner rather than later!
