Great Property

  • 5 of 5

Jaspers Cottage was a great place to escape to for a long weekend. The house is full of character, with a large open fireplace and is well looked after. It's a fantastic place for that mid-winter get away, located in a quiet street, but close to Katoomba township. The owner is very friendly and quick to respond to emails/SMS.

Cute Cosy & Definitely 5 Star

  • 5 of 5

A group of 5 of us stayed at JASPERS COTTAGE and had a fantastic time away! Jaspers is a 3 bedroom 2 bathroom cottage over 2 levels and also an upstairs loft bedroom.

We were greeted by the most wonderful 'ambience' ..the moment you arrive you instantly appreciate the heritage of this gorgeous house. It has been meticulously re-stored with great taste and old world charm and character but has been cleverly mixed with all modern luxuries. The lounge-room is full of beautiful antiques, persian rugs and comfortable lounges. The modern multi-media combined with a large TV is subtly hidden behind an antique cabinet so again you appreciate the 'old with the new'. The best part is the stunning 'open log-fireplace' which warmed us up so quickly we had to turn the central heating off! We couldn't believe it felt like it was about to snow outside but there we were snuggled up with glasses of vino in our hands..soft music playing and the peace and quiet of the mountains. Every room has extra large windows at Jaspers..all with lovely views of the lawns and lush gardens.

Even the claw-foot bath and the other french bath tub both overlook the gardens but with complete privacy. The land seems to go on forever on a huge acre block.

Within a few hours...we were enjoying a game of 'MONOPOLY' and 'PICTIONARY' with the crackling of the fire, laughing and drinking with great friends..memories you cherish forever!

There are 3 TV's in the house including one in the fabulous kitchen..which we loved..fully equipped with everything you need including good quality 'stainless' pots and pans. All stainless appliances including a dishwasher and fabulous oven and cooktop. There is an 'old fuel stove' cooker again giving a nod to the past along with a fabulous glass antique hutch which was great for storing our goodies. Coffee teas, condiments are all supplied and a wonderful breakfast bar for us all to sit around along with a great 'window-box' seat off the kitchen to look outside, watch tele and talk to the 'chef' in action. Margie organised a private dinner for us where everything was cooked and cleaned up for us. She also organised some massages and breakfast hampers.

The bedrooms have really comfortable beds and lovely quality linen and electric blankets..everything is fresh and white including really fluffy white towels...shampoos, conditioners, soaps and hair-dryer which was great as we had forgotten to take one. There's another TV and DVD in the loft bedroom which also has a

Cute but not very comfortable

  • 3 of 5

We found the cottage rather unsuitable for our family of 5. It looks cute and cosy at first glance and has a nice old world feel and charme about it, but it is more like a museum – nice to look at but not practical.

The beds were too small to be comfortable for two. They seem to be double beds rather than queen size.

We found that there was nowhere to comfortably sit down and this was a real problem.

The dining table was in a position where it simply could not be used. The antique lounges were rather uncomfortable and the way they were positioned, the five of us could not comfortably sit by the fire or watch TV.

The breakfast bar only seats three and the stools are too high so your legs don’t fit under it and you have to sit sideways or with your legs apart.

The cottage has a lovely deck with a large dining table which we would have used in warmer weather but in the colder months this is not an option.

The kitchen is cute to look at but we found it difficult to even cook bacon and eggs. We could not find a good quality frying pan and there is no range hood. There is just no room and the cupboards are cluttered with too many things. Other than in the fridge there was nowhere to put groceries.

The house was very cold when we arrived at night. It would have been nice if the central heating had been turned on in the afternoon to take the chill out of the air. We turned on the central heating but it took a long time to warm the house to a comfortable temperature of 19 degrees.

Overall we still managed to enjoy our stay, especially after the house had finally warmed up and we lit a fire on the second night.

Owner's Response: I find this review extremely unfounded and harsh. You only have to read other reviews to realise that If an all modern contemporary accommodation is what you are after this is not the property for you. The nice thing about JASPERS is the mix of the 'old world charm' full of antiques of yester-year mixed with all modern conveniences, gorgeous linen and fluffy towels along with a lovely kitchen with italian saucepans and frying pans. I show the property exactly as it is on the internet ... expecting queen beds in a cottage when there are very comfortable double beds is unreasonable. The gorgeous 'Chesterfield' lounge is one of the most complimented pieces of furniture..guests tell me constantly they fall asleep on it in front of the fire. There are 6 bench stools for the kitchen...two are are put in the dinette area to give more access and can easily be brought out when needed as we have 2, 4 or 6 guests staying at any time. There is so much seating available this comment leaves me perplexed. There are 3 lounges and 2 leather ottomans which guests can easily move if they wish to be closer to the fireplace or TV. The dining table and 6 chairs which as seen on the internet sits nicely in the 'bay window' area and is easily brought out dependent on the number of guests. There is a large Hutch in the kitchen as shown on the internet and this has full crockery in the glass section and is completely empty at the bottom section of the Hutch perfect for any groceries. The 'fuel stove' is also a perfect place to put items on top so again I find this comment perplexing. As per the photos on the internet this is a good sized kitchen and fully equipped. Finally, we are not a Hotel we are 'self contained' accommodation ....It is very difficult to have a 'gas' heating appliance running whilst no-one is at the property. In the correspondence to guests we do offer that if we are notified prior my Manager can put the heating on if we have an idea of arrival time. It is sad that none of the lovely features are mentioned other than the lovely outside deck area. Jaspers is on a 1/4 acre of lush lawns and garden so perfect for children and wandering around admiring the garden and birdlife. It is opposite a park so very quiet and peaceful but just 5 mins from Katoomba main centre. It boasts two gorgeous baths including an authentic 'claw foot' and stunning pieces from the 1920's mixed in with stainless appliances and all mod cons. I'm a bit biased but to lose my 5 star rating for

We had a fantastic weekend at Jaspers, the house was everything we needed and more. Margie and the team were amazing and had everything ready for us to arrive including beautiful food, wine and bookings at our chosen restaurants and Sublime Spa for amazing treatments so all we really had to do was get there flick a match in the ready to go fire and kick back. A very enjoyable and relaxing weekend and I can highly recommend the stay at Jaspers or I am confident any place that Margie manages.

What a wonderful home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a lovely stay at Jasper's Cottage. The house was very well appointed and had everything we needed including a choice of two beautiful claw foot baths! Our two young boys loved the attic bedroom and playing in the gardens. We loved the art deco style throughout the house, the open fire and the very comfy beds. The location was great for all our adventures through the Blue Mountains region and great place to come home to after a busy day of exploring. Thank you so much for your hospitality! We will come again. :)
