Wolves, bear, moose and elk abound in our area of Yellowstone and the Beartooth Mountains. There are beautiful mountain views from the back deck, and front windows. Some of the best wild trout fishing in the world is minutes from the house. These include the Yellowstone River, Lamar River, Slough Creek, Soda Butte Creek, and the Clarks Fork of the Yellowstone. This is a summer rental only!
A great family day can be spent touring the famous features of Yellowstone or taking a day trip to Cody, WY to see the Wild Bill Cody Museum, a grnuine rodeo nightly, a gun fight at the original Irma Hotel, good food, and many shops including the Sierra Outlet. Best time for animal watching is June and early July, while the best time for fishing is mid July through September. Hiking is fabulous anytime.
The house is clean, spacious and comfortable, with a Great Room and fireplace, modern kitchen and laundry with half bath on first floor. Second floor has two very large bedrooms: One has three single beds and the other a queen bed and a single. This arrangement will sleep a family of six or 5 singles. Also a newly remodeled full bathroom upstairs.
Outside thre is a rear deck with gorgeous mountain vies so close you feel like you can reach out and touch them. There is a grill and patio furniture for outdoor dining. There is also a very small stream in the yard which holds a few native Yellowstone Cutthroat Trout. Very private yard.

My husband Hank and I have over the years, run a fly fishing school, guided for 10 years in YNP, Hank builds bamboo fly rods. In our non-summer home in VA we fox hunt on horseback and are active conservationists. We are life members of Trout Unlimited, and we both have received numerous awards from that organization.
Presently, I am a retired teacher who writes Outdoor columns for a magazine and a local newspaper, and I have had an article on Yellowstone Cutthroat trout printed in Fly Fisherman Magazine.
Marcia purchased this house in 1992
Our location has the best fishing in Yellowstone for native Yellowstone Cutthroat trout. Lamar River, Slough Creek, Soda Butte and Yellowstone River are all less than 30 minutes from our home.
We are one of the closest residences to YNP in any of the gateway communities. In two minutes you can be at the NE gate.
Thank you so much for everything. You guys wre so helpful! You were just great. The house was very pretty and the backyard with the little stream was awesome for us kids.
“Thanks for providing us with a “base camp” for our Yellowstone Adventure. We all had a great time at your Silver Gate Lodge. Marcia, a special thanks to you! We are all grateful for your willingness to share knowledge of flies, locations to fish, and techniques to catch ‘em.” Jim & the Super Secret Fly Fishers.”
Thank you so much for letting me stay at your home this summer with my family. We had an excellent vacation and there was so many things we enjoyed about your home.
1. Location, Location, Location! We were centrally located for trips to the park, heading to Gardiner for a day of rafting, going to Cody for the nightly rodeo, and outings to the K-Z for horseback riding.
2. Quiet town with wonderful people. Everyone we met in Silver Gate were extremely friendly and went out of their way to make our stay comfortable.
3. Great owners! I was able to talk with the owners before and during my stay who gave me great recommendations for places to visit and things to do.
4. Wildlife! From the buffalo in the front yard to the amazing animal watching throughout Yellowstone, this is the place to stay. We saw bears (both grizzly and black) with their cubs, wolves with their pups, and more bison with their calves than I can mention.
5. Well-equipped home that made it possible to cook our own meals and do a load of laundry when needed.
On behalf of our group, I want to express my sincere thanks for helping us have a fantastic time in one of the most beautiful places on earth. Your recommendations were most helpful, without which we would have wasted a lot of time trying to figure things out for ourselves.
The group thoroughly enjoyed the experience and all agreed they had a wonderful time. They liked the cabin and it worked out just fine for all of us. It was clean, espeially the bathrooms. Internet worked when needed for an urgent business matter back home. Three of us guys bunked in one of the upstairs bedrooms and our married couple had the MBR. One other guy slept in the guest log cabin in the back yard. We all slept well.
We liked the Clark’s Fork best of all even though other rivers or streams were scenic and fun to fish. We primarily fished the Clark’s Fork just inside the Wyoming line that has beautiful gorges with rapids and pools.
The Yellowstone is also an impressive river in other ways. After fishing there and then hiking back to the Gardner River parking lot, we enjoyed a dip in the “Hot Tub” in the Gardner River. What a pleasant way to end the day! We also fished Soda Butte, Slough Creek, Lamar and Firehole.
We caught plenty of fish including one or two guys getting a four trout (Cutthroat, Rainbow, Brook and Brown) grand slam. This is a trip we all would like to do again some time.
Thanks again for your help.
Thank you, Marcia, for a truly great stay. Wonderful accommodations in a quiet part of the park with the best wildlife viewing and gorgeous scenery. Pleasant company, good places to eat nearby, and absolutely the best recommendations from our hosts for horsepacking trips and expert guiding for the best cutthroat trout fishing. We'll definitely be back!
Our family enjoyed our stay in Cooke City. The house was great: prefect location, lovely view of the mountains and clean. Marcia was very helpful with local recommendations for rafting, horseback riding, and fishing locations. If your family is interested in the low key side of the park, this house is a great place.
Again we were blessed to stay at this wonderful home in Silvergate, Montana. Best weather, best fishing, best wildlife viewing and best accommodations. Five star all the way! Thanks, Marcia and Hank for sharing your home with us. Love, The Rubley's from Colorado.
Day trip to Cody, WY for Wild Bill Cody Museum, nightly full fledged rodeo.
