French Leave Beach is 75 yards wide and over a mile long, with only five houses on the entire length. Goodwind has an abundance of glass for sweeping beach and ocean views from all major rooms. Enjoy the shifting hues and gentle sounds of the ocean from our generous screened and shaded verandas framed by elegant stucco arches.
Goodwind house is located a mile from the town of Governors Harbour on historic Banks Road, the premier location on Eleuthera, famous for its grand estates. There is an excellent reef for snorkeling a short walk down the beach, inhabited by a wide variety of reef fishes.
Goodwind House has a large light-filled great room with 360-degree views. All the windows open to catch the ocean breeze, and there are six ceiling fans (no air conditioner in great room). The great room includes a dining area with seating for up to 12 guests and a complete wet bar with ice-maker. French Leave Beach is an idyllic, mile-long, crescent-shaped beach. There are only five houses on the entire length of this spectacular beach. The surf is very mild, protected by a large reef system that parallels the shore. The water on French Leave Beach is literally crystal clear: with no rivers or streams on the island, Eleuthera's seas are free of sediment and among the clearest in the world.
Tippy's famous beachside restaurant is just a mile away (you can also walk the beach to get there). Both offer fine dining and live entertainment. Other upscale restaurants within easy driving distance include La Bougainvillea Restaurant and Bar, 1648 and Pascals's at Sky Beach Club.
Goodwind House sleeps 6 in its three bedrooms. If you have a larger group, we have another house 150 feet away that you can rent along with it. Please inquire for details.
We stayed at Good Wind house for eight days which was about 10 days too short. Four adults, two kids, 14 and 11. When not at the beach the 14 year old could not be pried out of the hammock. The house had everything we needed, including so many spices which was so helpful. The beach is about the nicest beach I have ever been on, just gorgeous. Finally, the people were so friendly, polite and not and ever intrusive. Oh, by the way, we ate grouper, snapper and lobster all caught off shore in our back yard. Wonderful!!!
Perfect for us. Lots of space. Lots of places to congregate. Not too fussy. Nice kitchen. Large dining table. Loved it! Great time!
the location of the house is perfect. steps away from a big nearly private beach. we swam morning, noon, and night (bio-luminescence!) true, there are details in the house that aren't in the best shape, a bit old, but all four of us were not bothered by it. it is easy to see how hard it is to keep things functioning in that climate. when i chose it i decided to focus on the location and not posh bathrooms, in the end it was a great decision. and the rest of the house is posh enough to cozy up and enjoy.
we spent the majority of indoor time in the lovely white breezeway. tended to go out for lunch and dine in for dinner. the grocery and wine stores in town are fine and dandy albeit more expensive (sometimes) than what we were used to. i live in nyc so the prices were pretty comparable.
we all really like eluethera, edgar the kindly caretaker/car rental agency/taxi man. felt good knowing he was close by and easy going in temperament.
i would definitely recommend this house.
We rented both the main house and guest house for a multi-generational family vacation. The house was perfect, with lots of space for people to come together or spread out for quiet time. The house and furntiture are not brand new - this is not a five star resort - but for our family that made it much more comfortable as you don't feel bad about putting your feet up on the couch. The beach was absolutely amazing, though there were waves (unlike the Carribean side of Eleuthera) so we had to keep an eye on our 3 year old. The house was well stocked with sea kayaks, boogie boards, snorkels, and kids sand toys. We had one person with us who was blind and he had no trouble navigating the property, and with everything on one level it would be very walker friendly though there are little lips to get over the patio door frames.
Matt and Tara from Eleuthera were very helpful organizing our stay.
Overall Eleuthera made a perfect vacation for our diverse crowd with lots of opportunities for relaxing or adventuring. If (when!) we go again, I would: leave more time between arriving in Nassau and flying to Governor's Harbour - I only had 1 1/2hrs between flights and after clearing customs we ended up missing our Governor's Harbour flight and having to reschedule; pay someone to stock the kitchen before we arrive, just to make the first evening and morning less stressful; if you want to go to all the places in "Elusive Beaches of Eleuthera", bring a GPS because they give directions in GPS coordinates.
We traveled with 8 adults to Eleuthera for the week. We rented one room directly across the street from the Goodwind House for our 2 daughters in their 20's. Everything was wonderful but with a few simple fixes, the place would be excellent! A minor upgrade to the bathrooms would be nice as well as the kitchen. Also, maybe some shades in the upper windows in the kitchen as the house gets warm in the afternoon. The house had everything, including a tiki hut on the beach for shade. We liked the breezeway where we could leave our sandy shoes, coolers, etc. at the end of the day and the way the bedrooms were separate from the main living area. The location was key; close to town, the airport and The Beach House Restaurant! We will definitely consider staying at the Goodwind House again and would recommend it highly.
We stayed at the Goodwind House for 7 nights and recommend the place very highly. It is a very, very spacious, pretty beach house with Caribbean style right on the most beautiful beach I have seen. The house has all you could ask for - plenty of linens, beach chairs, comfortable beds, a game cabinet, kayaks, books, and a kitchen that is stocked for actual cooking. We were a family of five and everyone loved it. We also appreciated with efforts of our agent, Matt Simon of Eleuthera Vacation Rentals, who was helpful and responsive with many details of our stay. A beautiful place that we would love to rent again. Sorry we had to go!
