About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 3 Baths (Sleeps 6)

Welcome to Goodwind House, a spacious three-bedroom villa located directly on world-famous French Leave Beach, a pristine beach renowned for its pink sand and turquoise water. French Leave Beach is 75 yards wide and over a mile long, with only five houses on the entire length. Goodwind has an abundance of glass for sweeping beach and ocean views from all major rooms. Enjoy the shifting hues and gentle sounds of the ocean from our generous screened and shaded verandas framed by elegant stucco arches.

Goodwind House sleeps 6 in its three bedrooms. If you have a larger group, we have another house 150 feet away that you can rent along with it. Please inquire for details.

Goodwind house is located a mile from the town of Governors Harbour on historic Banks Road, the premier location on Eleuthera, famous for its grand estates. There is an excellent reef for snorkeling a short walk down the beach, inhabited by a wide variety of reef fishes.

Goodwind House has a large light-filled great room with 360-degree views. All the windows open to catch the ocean breeze, and there are six ceiling fans (no air conditioner in great room). The great room includes a dining area with seating for up to 12 guests and a complete wet bar with ice-maker. There is seating for fifteen in the living area, centered on an entertainment center with flat screen TV and a separate projects/game table. The fully equipped kitchen is open to the great room for those who wish to entertain while cooking. The spacious screen porch has dining tables with seating for ten. There is also a large hammock, beloved by the children. There is an open deck towards the sea furnished with four recliners with end tables between them, and nearby, a gas grill for outdoor cooking.

Goodwind House sleeps 6 in beds in its three bedrooms. All bedrooms are air-conditioned. The upstairs master bedroom suite has a king-size four-poster bed, his and hers closets, and a large bathroom with a walk-in shower.

Downstairs are two more bedrooms, both with king beds, and two more bathrooms, one with a walk-in shower and one with a shower-tub combination. The third bedroom has a king bed. There is also a laundry room with a washer and dryer.

Amenities at Goodwind include WIFI, satellite TV, and a landline telephone for local calls. We have plenty of board games, toys, and books.

Goodwind comes with everything you need to enjoy our beautiful beach. There

are six beach chairs, a sixteen by eight foot shade house , and plenty of

beach toys. The more adventurous can explore the nearby reefs and beaches in

our three SEA KAYAKS.

French Leave Beach is an idyllic, mile-long, crescent-shaped beach. There are only five houses on the entire length of this spectacular beach. The surf is very mild, protected by a large reef system that parallels the shore. The water on French Leave Beach is literally crystal clear: with no rivers or streams on the island, Eleuthera's seas are free of sediment and among the clearest in the world.

Tippy's famous beachside restaurant is just a mile away (you can also walk the beach to get there). Both offer fine dining and live entertainment. Other upscale restaurants within easy driving distance include Cocodimama and Pascals's at Sky Beach Club.

Perfect for our group of 12. Right on the beach. Lots of room. The beautiful beach all to ourselves.

Perfect for us. Lots of space. Lots of places to congregate. Not too fussy. Nice kitchen. Large dining table. Loved it! Great time!

almost perfect.

  • 4 of 5

the location of the house is perfect. steps away from a big nearly private beach. we swam morning, noon, and night (bio-luminescence!) true, there are details in the house that aren't in the best shape, a bit old, but all four of us were not bothered by it. it is easy to see how hard it is to keep things functioning in that climate. when i chose it i decided to focus on the location and not posh bathrooms, in the end it was a great decision. and the rest of the house is posh enough to cozy up and enjoy.

we spent the majority of indoor time in the lovely white breezeway. tended to go out for lunch and dine in for dinner. the grocery and wine stores in town are fine and dandy albeit more expensive (sometimes) than what we were used to. i live in nyc so the prices were pretty comparable.

we all really like eluethera, edgar the kindly caretaker/car rental agency/taxi man. felt good knowing he was close by and easy going in temperament.

i would definitely recommend this house.

Beautiful house, great for a big group

  • 5 of 5

We rented both the main house and guest house for a multi-generational family vacation. The house was perfect, with lots of space for people to come together or spread out for quiet time. The house and furntiture are not brand new - this is not a five star resort - but for our family that made it much more comfortable as you don't feel bad about putting your feet up on the couch. The beach was absolutely amazing, though there were waves (unlike the Carribean side of Eleuthera) so we had to keep an eye on our 3 year old. The house was well stocked with sea kayaks, boogie boards, snorkels, and kids sand toys. We had one person with us who was blind and he had no trouble navigating the property, and with everything on one level it would be very walker friendly though there are little lips to get over the patio door frames.

Matt and Tara from Eleuthera were very helpful organizing our stay.

Overall Eleuthera made a perfect vacation for our diverse crowd with lots of opportunities for relaxing or adventuring. If (when!) we go again, I would: leave more time between arriving in Nassau and flying to Governor's Harbour - I only had 1 1/2hrs between flights and after clearing customs we ended up missing our Governor's Harbour flight and having to reschedule; pay someone to stock the kitchen before we arrive, just to make the first evening and morning less stressful; if you want to go to all the places in "Elusive Beaches of Eleuthera", bring a GPS because they give directions in GPS coordinates.

Wonderful Location!

  • 4 of 5

We traveled with 8 adults to Eleuthera for the week. We rented one room directly across the street from the Goodwind House for our 2 daughters in their 20's. Everything was wonderful but with a few simple fixes, the place would be excellent! A minor upgrade to the bathrooms would be nice as well as the kitchen. Also, maybe some shades in the upper windows in the kitchen as the house gets warm in the afternoon. The house had everything, including a tiki hut on the beach for shade. We liked the breezeway where we could leave our sandy shoes, coolers, etc. at the end of the day and the way the bedrooms were separate from the main living area. The location was key; close to town, the airport and The Beach House Restaurant! We will definitely consider staying at the Goodwind House again and would recommend it highly.

Great Beach House on French Leave

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Goodwind House for 7 nights and recommend the place very highly. It is a very, very spacious, pretty beach house with Caribbean style right on the most beautiful beach I have seen. The house has all you could ask for - plenty of linens, beach chairs, comfortable beds, a game cabinet, kayaks, books, and a kitchen that is stocked for actual cooking. We were a family of five and everyone loved it. We also appreciated with efforts of our agent, Matt Simon of Eleuthera Vacation Rentals, who was helpful and responsive with many details of our stay. A beautiful place that we would love to rent again. Sorry we had to go!

The most amazing place!!

  • 5 of 5

First off, a big thank you to Julianna and company for helping us find this amazing location! The owner, David, was fantastic. He saw we weren't arriving until after the local grocery store closed and asked if he could grab us anything for the next morning. That tells you right away what kind of person he is. He went above and beyond with that one. We also changed houses at the last minute with no problems at all, David owns them both, so it worked out well. We went with the Goodwind house because it was directly on the beach. We will not stay anywhere else but the Goodwind house when we go to Eleuthera and we will be back.

The house was great, it had everything anyone could want. Fully stocked kitchen, air conditioned bedrooms, large and open great room with the perfect sea breezes and nice decor. You are on one of the most amazing beaches in the world and no one knows about it, lets keep it that way. The most people we saw out there at any one time were about 12. It has the softest pink sand. It doesn't just look pink when the sun shines just right, it is pink. There is a beautiful reef just off the beach, very easy to reach from shore. We saw every kind of fish imaginable. The house comes with 2 kayaks, which is perfect for exploring a little farther out. Skip, the caretaker was great, he made sure we had everything we needed and the gardener was very friendly.

Governors Harbor is just a 3 minute drive and they have anything you need, grocery store, liquor store, dive shop, gas station and a few good restaurants. Don't miss the fish fry on Friday nights, it's a great time, it's fun to mingle with all the locals. GH is in the middle of the island, which makes day trips up north or down south quite accessible. Renting a car is a must.

Lighthouse Beach is a must see, the road getting there is a challenge, but well worth it.

You could explore this island for two weeks straight and not see half it has to offer, it's a magical place. You need to swim in the Ocean Hole and jump off their cliffs. We explored the most amazing beaches and the coolest caves almost every day.

We asked our kids (14 and 11) if they would rather go back to Atlantis or Eleuthera and without hesitation they both said Eleuthera. These kids have been to many Caribbean islands and have seen many a pretty beach, so for them to want to go back says a lot. I would recommend this house to families who like adventure or ones that just want to chill-ax, because you can definitely do both.
