Excellent accommodation.

We are a group of 7 adults and one teenager who meet up for a post Christmas get together every year. This was our first time at 'Farmer Vic's, but it won't be our last. The Farmhouse South Wing suited our requirments perfectly. All the bedrooms are a good size and beds, bedding and towels of a very good quality and there was a TV in every room. There was plenty of hot water and the house was nice and toasty (a bit too warm sometimes, so next time we need to get the hang of the heating timer!) The large dining table seated us all easily for our evening meals and there were plenty of comfy seats for us to retire to afterwards for playing games and watching TV.

The kitchen was well equipped and the addition of a drinks fridge meant there was plenty of room in the main fridge and freezer for our other stuff. The only items we felt were lacking in the kitchen (or we couldn't find them!) were a chopping board and a tray. The animals outside were a delight, free roaming peacocks and ducks, meerkats, sheep, guinea fowl in the field right outside our door. Lovely Farmer Vic arrived just as we were about to have breakfast on our first morning with a dozen freshly laid eggs and spent some time answering our questions about the animals. We are already planning our return visit for next year

Fantastic place for family get together

  • 5 of 5

We were a party of 8 adults and 7 kids (from Australia and UK) who spent 3 wonderful nights in the South Wing for a family Xmas. We arrived to a lovely toasty house with a well equipped kitchen (especially loved the drinks fridge) with plenty of space throughout. In the evening Vic came to make sure everything was ok and we were comfy. He made it 'Christmassy' with the tree and other decorations in the lounge - we made good use of cupboards in here). The adults could relax knowing the kids were safe in the playground (we could watch from either kitchen or lounge Windows) and they also spent quite a bit of time playing soccer with some of the adults. Even though they couldn't go into the orchard they were quite happy just to hang over the fence and look at the farmyard animals. The peacocks roamed free on Boxing Day which excited them somewhat. We arrived back rom Xmas lunch at White Hart Inn, Moorwood Moor (10 min drive) and there were beautiful flowers from Vic - this was a lovely gesture and very much appreciated by all of us. To Rachel, thank you so much for being flexible with the early check in for the Aussie contingent. Thank you Vic and Rachel for making our family Xmas so enjoyable.

Beautiful location, great host, great place!

  • 4 of 5

My friends and I had a fabulous time in the Farmhouse Southwing this past weekend. The building was so beautifully decorated for Christmas. That was a great touch, we were exchanging gifts whilst there so when we saw the tree we were very pleased indeed. Everything in the house was perfect for our needs! The only reason it's not a 5 star review is (not their fault) we were looking forward to playing with the anomals but due to avian flu we were not allowed to. Also, we were unable to find a dustpan and brush; we improvised but it's worth including one!

Farmer Vic was very welcoming on arrival (particularly as we arrived in a power cut!!) and a very pleasant chap. Our baby Vic was pleased to meet another one!!! We will be back and hopefully we will have the chance to play in the orchard!

Owner's Response: Hi young Vic and friends! I am really sorry about you not being able to visit the Orchard but on this occasion I had no alternative but to close the Orchard to protect my flock that are so precious to us all, however I see you intend visiting us again upon which I will make sure I make amends for this. The best time for a visit is after Easter when I will have baby chicks hatched off and newly born lambs in the paddock. Thank you all Farmer Vic

Excellent facilities, lovely bed linen, great beds.

A really comfortable house, lovely and warm in a convenient position for lots of activities. Great things for kids too. A map for getting there would have been useful as our satnav didn't work and it was dark. Thank you very much.

Stunning scenery & relaxing

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the south wing, there were 6 adults, 2 children and 2 dogs. We celebrated my dads 70th birthday (as a surprise). We found the south wing to be very clean and very spacious, the kitchen was well equipped. The park was just over the road from us which was grately appreciate by the children and the petting farm was just behind us which the children loved too.

The staff are friendly and very helpful.

My dad loved his surprise and we would all like to come back for longer next year.

Outstanding for a reunion stay

  • 5 of 5

We chose this because we were travelling from Canada with family (6 of us) and meeting up with other family and friends for a reunion before heading to Germany for a wedding. We stayed in Elliot House and also had The Dairy which gave up 6 bedrooms overall. With a private courtyard and hot tub it was a perfect spot for our get-together. We loved the ensuite bathrooms in Elliot House so each couple had privacy. The beds were comfortable with good pillows and bedding. The complex has numerous apartments and most were occupied over the Bank Holiday weekend, but it was very quiet and we barely noticed other guests. We had 6 children with us at one point and they loved the children's play park and more specially, the 'farm' area with sheep, ducks, hens, peacocks and meerkats. On the Saturday of our stay Farmer Vic entertianed the children with an hour feeding the animals and telling them all about the various species. That ended up with them collecting eggs which they had for breakfast the next morning.

We try to get across to the UK once a year to see our family and this may be our go-to accommodation from here on.

As far as the booking process is concerned I'd far prefer to communicate directly with an owner rather than through the Home Away portal which is cumbersome and feels less personal. On this occasion there was no choice but we did find the owner's own website and got more information from there. Vic has so much opportunity to capitalise on his website and create a great home base to describe the area in more detail.

We enjoyed local pubs - The Shoulder of Mutton is a 3 minute drive; the outlet shopping centre (15minutes); a big supermarket (5 minutes); and Shipley Park (20 minutes).

Thank you Vic Fell and your team for making our stay memorable and a real pleasure for our family reunion.
