E komo mai to Hale Melemele (Yellow Cottage) and life’s simple Hawaiian pleasures on the Big Island.
Hale Melemele on Big Island invites you to her spacious living room-kitchen with smart TV and DVD player with DVDs. Free WiFi.
Unwind enjoying your favorite beverage or your personally prepared gourmet meal while dining on the open-air lanai. Your dining creations cooked with fresh fish and produce from local markets; Hale Melemele's kitchen and dining area is fully equipped with quality, matching implements, full size refrigerator/freezer, and a gas range with oven. Microwave. Our garden provides fresh rosemary, sage, parsley, thyme and basil for your homemade delicacies.
Not cooking? You’ll discover exciting and funky dining options available in historic Pahoa Village (15 miles/24.5 km) or Hilo (35 miles/50 km). Four miles down the road, Uncle Roberts has a food concession and special events including food all day Saturday and especially Wednesday evenings. (On Wednesdays, we suggest you be there by 5:30 pm to enjoy Hawaiian music and avoid parking issues.) You may also eat at Kalani Retreat, nearby.
Your colorful, private, one bedroom cottage quickly becomes your comfortable home-away-from-home. A plush queen size bed awaits the weary traveler, ample closet space lets you unpack all your clothes – you shouldn’t need much since the Big Island is very casual. (If you’ve got more than a roll-aboard, you’ve probably over packed. There is a bathroom with sink, toilet and shower. Also, an outdoor shower with bamboo enclosure.
As you settle into Hawaii and the spirit of aloha, walk outside at night, listen to the Pacific’s crashing waves just down the street, look into a night sky that many of your friends have never seen before; the moon may be brighter than you’ve imagined. And the Milky Way – oh my!
For your planning purposes, note that Puna and Kalapana Seaview Estates are not the land of "Hawaii Five-O"; Puna is the original Hawaii that tourists explored in the 1950s. You won’t find glitzy nightclubs, though there are community hangouts. We joke that most everyone is sleeping by Puna midnight – 9:00 pm.
A hui hou ! (See you soon!)
