"Oyan-zain-baita" is the ideal place to stay for a happy holiday, both for lovers of the mountain (there are walks and excursions directly from the house, without having to take the car), as for lovers of the sea and the beach (10 minutes from the coast). Cycling, surfing, sailing, fishing, equestrian tourism etc., there are almost no limitations with the Atlantic sea, the Pyrenees and a well-prepared infrastructure.
It is also a strategic site if you want to discover the Basque-French and Basque-Spanish cultures (towns, gastronomy, traditions, architecture, landscapes, etc.).
The Basque name of the house is "Oyan-zain-baita", which in Spanish means "The ranger's house" (curious coincidence, because Steffen also comes from a family of forest rangers from La Selva Negra, Germany).
The house is located in a quiet rural setting with beautiful views of the meadows and mountains, at the foot of Mount "La Rhune" (900m), between the villages Urrugne and Ascain (5 min.). Nearby is also the coast: St. Jean de Luz (10 min), Hendaye (15 min), Hondarribia (Spain) (20 min.), Biarritz (20 min.), San Sebastián (Spain) (30 min.).
The apartments are surrounded by a large garden with tables and benches for the enjoyment of guests, with direct access to the stream that borders the house, to cool off in summer. There is still the old stone wash room. There are also old trees whose shade is appreciated on sunny days: bananas, a beech, an oak and two plums (each with a different variety of plum, which you can taste).
