Mike designed, drew and built the house almost single handedly, its is a work of art. You can see and feel the love that went into creating this tranquil place of refuge. We live near by, with our 11 Yearwood Old Son, a dog and 4 chickens, enjoy the beach, people and just being in Ka'u. Being from Seattle and Germany, we have come around the world and to us this is the best place in the world. We love to share our paradise with you. Recycling, re-using, composting and refraining from heavy chemical use makes us feel good about caring for our beloved earth.
Why Kirsi chose Discovery Harbour
It's quiet and serene with ocean views, truly a place to relax and unwind.
What makes this House unique
Your view is pure nature, the back yard, the golf course and in the far, the ocean. There are no houses visible in the back, view side. The power is generated by wind and sun.

Beautiful and idyllic Hawaiian Retreat
We stayed a couple nights at this property and wished we could have stayed longer! Property was beautiful and clean with a lush view out the back of flowers, golf course and ocean. Owner met us at the property and was very kind and hospitable and easily accessible both before and during our stay. We highly recommend this property if you are looking for a quiet hidden slice of paradise away from tourists.
Karen, we really appreciate you staying with us and for being impeccable guests. All the best to you and yours.
Very nice, well put to gether, wonderful host
Mahalo you guys, it was a pleasure meeting you. Wishing you all the best!
A hui hou.
Beautiful new home with luxury fit and finish and a super relaxing feel. The lanai is perfect for unwinding, staring at the ocean and watching the weather role in. Glorious morning sun rises fill the suite as there are many well placed windows. The owners have provided for every need and thought of ones you haven't even considered. The spot is private and secluded in an established community, which sounds like a contradiction in terms, but its not, you just got to experience it. Very accessible and the area is a beautiful part of the island where there is equal parts sunshine and, lushness. Its rural with towns (for shopping) located close by, both to the east (Naalehu) and west (Oceanview), and lots of little spots to check out. Fantastic home and hospitality.
A wonderful place!
We had a wonderful experience at Kirsi's place. It was clean, easy to find and stocked up with all the amenities to make our stay truly enjoyable. Waiting for the sunrise by the window seat was a truly magical experience... The lanai was also a great place to gaze at the stars at night! The place is very quiet and perfect for relaxation.... On the practical side, we really appreciated the fast free internet service that made it convenient to check back on the real world... Kirsi met us on the first day and was very responsive to our questions during our stay.
Peaceful lovely studio in a quiet setting....
This lovely studio is tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean. The spacious studio includes a nice kitchen and a large walk in closet as well as a generous bathroom. The neighborhood is quiet, so all we heard was birdsong and the ocean. Kirsi is a gracious and attentive hostess; giving us space but making sure we had absolutely everything we needed. If you are looking for a quiet and restful spot to wake up looking at the ocean, this is it. Serene, restful relaxing......
Well done. Well appointed. Private. Quiet with great service.
Ka'u has the longest unspoiled seashore in the state, you can hike for miles without encountering another person. Nearby Southpoint is definitely worth a visit, beautiful Mahana Green Sand Beach is well worth the hike (some locals offer rides for a fee). Also the easily accessible Punaluu Black Sand Beach where the protected Hawaiian green sea turtles Honu frequently come ashore to rest (make sure you stay 10 feet away!). If you are lucky enough to be here on Saturday or Sunday, we highly recommend a hike in the Kahuku park section of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, it is only about 10 minutes away. The friendly park rangers will give you a map, but make sure you exit by 3pm. There is a farmers market on Wednesdays with some organic local produce, exotic fruit, grass fed beef, creative gifts and delicious offerings in Na'alehu. Stop by the famous Punalu'u Bakery for refreshments or a meal, grab a coffee and some friendly conversation at the Flyin Hawaiian Coffee cart on odd days of the week. Up the hill beyond the village of Wai'ohinu (Mark Twain Monkey Pod Tree) you find 'Ailani Orchards, where you can taste beyond organic coffee and slowly dehydrated macadamia nuts, or pick up some seasonal organic fruit fresh from the orchard on location. On Southpoint Road, you will definintely want to stop by Hawaiian Flowers/Ka Lae Coffee shop for a unique experience and awesome coffee, as well as unique gifts and of course all these beautiful orchids. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is a mere 45 minutes away,
