This single storey traditional country house is set within 19 acres of unspoilt rolling alentejan countryside. There are panoramic views from all aspects. The high vaulted ceilings and wood shuttered windows keep it cool in the hot summer months, underfloor heating and a wood burning stove for the cool winter nights enable year round use of the property.
The large airy lounge has plenty of comfortable seating, TV, satellite channels inc sports, DVD, Wi-Fi, a selection of books and DVDs. French doors open onto a covered terrace overlooking the 15m pool and its surround with its plentiful sun loungers and shaded areas. The upper terrace now has comfortable furniture perfect for reading, enjoying the wonderful sunsets with a glass of Alentejan wine !We have built a new shaded dining area on the side terrace perfect for lunch and well lit for supper in the eveningsThe kitchen is well equipped with an extensive range of quality utensils, crockery and cutlery and has a dining area. After a relaxing day by the pool and a great meal with fantastic local wines retire to one of the 4 bedrooms each with its own en-suite bathroom.
The Alentejo is an ideal place to take a holiday- one that can be relaxing or active. The location of Monte Novo dos Cachorros makes it a perfect base from which to explore the Baixo ( lower) Alentejo with its fantastic unspoilt West coast where there are traditional Portuguese resorts. Recently The Sunday Times Travel section has mentioned one of our favorites Vila Nova de Milfontes(40 mins drive) river and ocean beaches and great seafood restaurants- details in our info book in the house. Inland there are white washed towns steeped in history, vineyards such as Malhadina, and Herdade de Grous where we have sampled the fantastic red wines but they are just 2 of many producers in the Alentejo. If you like walking there are tracks from our gate- you can walk for hours through the forest of eucalyptus up and down the rolling hills dotted with oak trees. In the spring there is an abundance of wild flowers but with the heat of the summer the landscape dries and the land becomes golden the light can be ethereal, the cry of the kites echoing as you walk along. There is a large lake/ reservoir just 10mins drive where you can fish or even swim if you like. Horse riding can be arranged there's quad biking even hot ballooning at a local hotel.
Or you might simply want to relax and enjoy our home. The pool is large enough to enjoy a good swim- there are several terraces so if you want peace and quiet away from the pool you can do so.
There is a good supermarket in Ourique with a fresh fish counter. Our housekeeper will meet you and take you to the house. If there are any problems during your stay she is at the end of a mobile to help should you need it.
There are several small traditional restaurants locally serving simple cheap food- info available in the house.
We love our home in the Alentejo we hope you will too!
We fell in love with the Alentejo in 2005 whilst visiting friends
Our place in the sun-to recharge batteries-our home from home.
In 37 years of villas in Portugal- this is the best.
The quality and style is just to our tastes and we loved our stay here in your home away from home that you are obviously and justifiably proud of.We enjoyed the larger than average pool which has prompted us to new heights of fitness. We enjoyed the nearby reservoir and a general drive through the laid back countryside( oxen pulling ploughs!) and we gambled in the Atlantic surf.
All in all a blissful holiday in delightful surroundings from very generous hosts.
Oh! and PS. Maxine is a gem.
This property really lives up to the advertisement. We found only positive experiences during our entire time there. Wonderful , secluded location with vistas in all directions. The local farm animals made it feel even more off the beaten path.
It was an easy drive to many nearby towns & villages. Shopping was a breeze at the Pinto market. The comfortable seating arrangement - inside and out - made it easy for our group of 8 to spend time together drinking the inexpensive local wines. Even the small wood stove was an added treat on a few chilly evenings.
I highly recommend Pamela's home to anyone looking for an upscale - but out of the way vacation.

Eight adults and still plenty of room.
The best equipped villa we have ever had.
Big pool, lovely weather, great views.
Few miles to excellent supermarket and nice town (Ourique)
And central for visits to the coast, Faro etc.
Owners are really helpful.
We loved our 2 weeks at Villa Nova Cachorros surrounded by the rolling hills and beautiful sunsets. We are a group of long-time friends from Nth America and Australia and meet up somewhere interesting in Europe every 2 years.
We like to be in the countryside with the opportunity to make day trips to interesting places. The villa is in the real Portugal, set amongst working farms of cork trees, black pigs [for which the district is famous], sheep, goats and of course dogs. The house is spacious and well equipped for the 7 adults in our group-breakfast on the kitchen terrace and dinner on the large patio overlooking the pool each evening. The bedrooms are spacious and bathrooms as well- no problems sharing. We found the local supermarket in Ourique more than adequate and were happily surprised at the very reasonable prices of the fish and meat, delicious cheeses and other smallgoods let alone a good selection of local wines. We also visited some of the local small markets. The road in is a bit of a challenge, but driving slowly lets you take in the rural aspect and enjoy the sheep, cattle and the little hobbled black pony always on the road. Pam was always very responsive to all our requests and it was a pleasure to deal with her and Maxine her local manager. All in all a terrific fortnight. Thank you Pam!
What a wonderful 2 weeks we had at Cachorros. Family of 4, children aged 3 & 5.
As previous reviews have stated the photos don't do it justice. The place is immaculate. Clean & extremely well presented. We wanted for nothing. The layout works so well as everyone had their space. We particularly loved the mesh on the windows which meant we were able to have the windows open at night without making friends with Boris the spider (as we called him!).
Having 2 terraces is bliss. Sitting out on the veranda after our BBQ supper reading a book, supping some wine & watching the sun go down with just the sound of cow bells gently filling the air. Absolute heaven. So relaxing.
The pool is amazing, quite huge! The kids loved it & it meant we were able to sun bath on the loungers but be near at all times. Having gates to the pool too was an added bonus as then they understood their boundaries.
A car is essential & we had great fun exploring many of the beaches. The beaches are lovely, but do make a note of the tide times as that can catch you out. Having parasols, beach towels, beach bags & cool boxes to hand made it so easy to pack a picnic & just go out for the whole day. Things like that make such a difference!
A massive thank you to Pam & Maxine for all their help & information. Having Maxine just a call a way is reassuring & even Pam answered an email in 30 mins whilst we were there!
I could go on & on, but all I can say is go & experience it for yourself, you will not be disappointed.
We loved it so much we contacted Pam before we left to rebook for next year & hopefully another family (of 3) will be joining us. It's that spacious that it can easily accommodate 2 families.
Thank you Pam for a very relaxing holiday in your gorgeous home.

If you want luxury, space, peace and tranquility, then Monte Nova is the place for you.
We have just got back from our two week holiday which was everything we wished for.The villa is excellently equipped, very airy and cool, despite outside temperatures being in the mid 30s[centigrade]
It's location, once we drove 2 kms up the track was out of this world...360 degree views overlooking farmland, forests and the odd farmhouse, the silence only broken by birdsong and bells around the necks of grazing sheep and goats. The night skies were clear and full of stars. The swimming pool is fantastic and there are three patios/terraces to shelter from the midday heat.
Garvao and Ourique have all of the basics we needed, but since the roads are nearly empty, then it is very easy to venture further afield.Castro Verde has a large Intermarche as does Beja.
A trip to the coast took no more than 45 minutes...Vila Nova de Milfontes is well worth a visit and suits a couple like us to family groups....imagine a Cornish fishing village in a 1950s time warp...bliss!
We felt as if we had been away longer than two weeks, that was how easy it was to quickly unwind and relax.
Can't recommend it highly enough.Perfect.

An extremely clean well equipped Villa, lovely gardens with lemon trees, sadly too late for the apricots though. The far reaching views are outstanding over the Alentejo countryside, one hears the local sheep bells twice daily. The evenings are light up with an enormous array of bright stars. The large swimming pool is nicely protected from the refreshing evening wind. A network of tracks, makes for exploring by bicycle extremely interesting with a whole new perspective of the region. The people from the local village of Garvao are very friendly, and always offer to help. We shall return. R. Craig
With its panoramic views over the undulating alentejan countryside this country house with its private pool is ideally situated to explore the fabulous alentejo and the algarve. Easy driving to the unspoilt beaches of the west coast -surfing,walking the rota vicentina or simply enjoying the beaches of the unspoilt resorts with their great seafood. The algarve with its numerous golf courses, aqua parks and more sophisticated resorts is also an easy drive. Vineyards producing fabulous red wines and olive oil can be visited. There are lovely old towns to explore ,lakes to fish in,fantastic bird life to see. For the adventurous canoe down the river Mira or quad bike at a local estate.
Lisbon can be reached by car or even train from the local station, Evora-a world heritage site within 2 hrs.
Walk into our local village for your bread in the morning or take the car it's just a 5 min drive. The town of Ourique with all it's amenities is only a 15 min drive. Restaurants offer simple traditional food that is cheap.
