Château-d'Oex Chalet Rental Photos and Description

Ideal for summer or winter holidays roomy enough for families or friends sharing

This 3* rated chalet is a cosy home from home ideal for mountain holidays all year round in the valley going up from Gruyere to Gstaad. The chalet is perfect for relaxing or as a base for summer or winter activities in the village and surrounding areas. It is only a short walk into the French speaking village of Château d'Oex and boarders the German speaking Gstaad Region (10 mins). All areas are easily accessed by car, foot or the renowned panoramic Berniese Oberland railway close by. We leave the chalet well equipped and comfortable for our guests including linen, satellite TV, games, books, CD's, DVD's and even sledges to keep all ages entertained. The first floor consists of the main living area with a balcony offering an uninterrupted view of the valley and mountains. The lounge and dining room/kitchen area create convivial open plan living. A twin bedroom opens onto the balcony, and there is a study/single bedroom with piano. There is also a shower/toilet on this floor. Upstairs is a double and a twin bedroom. The ground floor has a garage with ski & boot racks,a twin bedroom & bathroom.

Equipment Hire and Things to Do: Sporting equipment may be hired from various sports shops in Château d'Oex

The Tourist Board is very helpful regarding events in the village and the surrounding areas occurring during your stay. They will be happy to assist in any bookings.

In summer one can Swim, play Pool, Bowling, horse ride, go on walks, visit museums, sporting events and music recitals, take train rides and cycle. Choose to visit the Balloon Museum and the local Museum of traditions, Cheese cellars, have an overnight stay on a cheese making farm in the mountains - a real 'Heidi' experience. All are local or travel further afield to the Gruyere7 Cheese Museum or the Cailler Chocolate museum. If you prefer shopping then Bulle is a larger centre and of course Gstaad.

In winter there are all the winter sports to experience or have a spa day in one of the bigger hotels.

There is a book of excursions visitors have enjoyed. We appreciate any contributions to this book.

We hope you enjoy your stay in our Chalet. We have left it as we would hope to find it, with most things you may need.

There is a selection of books in English, French and German you are welcome to read. Feel free to swap books. There are also some videos to entertain. If you wish to hire videos/DVD's you can do so from Media d'en Haut in the village. There are several board games and cards available for your enjoyment. Also a Radio/CD player if you wish to listen to music.

We would greatly appreciate any comments we can add to this web site for others to read.

Great family holiday

  • 5 of 5

Due to family connections, we have been to Switzerland many times over the years. This area has to be one of the most beautiful regions and I can honestly say that this chalet really does feel like home from home. With that, the central location and stunning views this chalet offers, this is not the first time we have stayed here and the pictures honestly do not do it enough justice.

We go on 3-generation family holidays and last August (2013), we had a brilliant time. The weather was amazing and we even got to join in with the local celebrations for children’s week and Swiss National Day on 1st August. With the walks, the activities, all the different mountains to go up and so much more to do, it really catered for everyone. A lot of people speak English which was a real bonus as my French definitely wouldn’t pass any exams which was also a bonus when visiting the equally beautiful Swiss-German part of Switzerland only a few minutes up the road. Gstaad is definitely a place to visit, if only to see how the other half live.

This May (2014), the weather wasn’t as great, but even that didn’t dampen the holiday and my daughter still wants to go back again next year. With friends out in Switzerland, due to the size of the chalet it gave us a wonderful base for the day and we were able to host dinner for 8 adults and 4 children with ease.

Although there is a fantastic train service, by hiring a car we were able to tragevel to places that we might not have found or been able to get to. It also made it easier to get to places like Bern and Interlaken, both only about 1.5hrs away and make lovely days out. Initially, the only downside we saw to the chalet was the train line directly in front, but they don’t run through the night and we soon got used to them going passed. The kids loved running onto the balcony so they could wave to the passengers and count how many waved back, definitely a highlight to their holiday.

All in all a fantastic location and chalet that caters for everything you need while being on holiday and really feels like home for cosy evenings after long exciting fun filled days.

Lovely! Cosy, well-equipped, great location

  • 5 of 5

We were completely charmed by the setting - lovely views from the chalet, walks to the elegant, yet unpretentious town of Chateau d'Oex, and the array of choice of ski stations close by!

Any mood can be accommodated here! The three floors give ample space for independence.

We had tonic days and great skiing at extensive, top stations like, Saanan and Eggli at Gstaad, followed by hot spa baths under the stars, and other days we sledded at Chateau d'Oex and enjoyed a lazy, long lunch of Nicky's homemade fondue on the terrasse in the sun, a ten minute walk from the chalet. Perfect!! Overall, I would highly recommend a stay here-the chalet, the landscape and the people all conspire towards a both relaxing and stimulating experience.

The chalet was PERFECT for my family and I.

  • 4 of 5

The chalet itself was perfect for us! It was big enough for the hole family and the children's friends. It is warm, cosy, typically Suisse, clean and well furnished we had everything we needed.

The only downside was not having wifi, but to be honest it became a blessing because the children spent more time with us, we all played games (which were provided) told each other stories and had a movie night all together. It was so different to see the children enjoying themselves with us instead of always being on a screen.

When we needed wifi we all went for a coffee in town and used the wifi there. Early Beck Bakery was our favorite spot for our internet fix, there is also a bar/restaurant at a 5min walk from the chalet (right next to the train station) which had internet. We did also use the tourist office to print out our flight details.

The children loved being so close to town and the train station, it gave the some freedom to get away from us adults. They often walked to town to go play bowling and arcade games.

The chalet was in an amazing location for skiers. One of the ski station around the chalet is in Chateau D'oex itself, it also had an amazing sledge run which all the children would not stop talking about (the run lasts about an hour and a half!). Every day we skied in a different ski station that was close to the chalet.

Over all we had the best ski holiday in this chalet, lots of fun memories were made and we will definitely be coming back!! I would recommend this chalet in a heart beat!
