Guestbook comments from the owner

We found the property ideal for our needs set in a quiet rural location with amazing views. We used the time to relax and to travel to lovely villages around the area. Le Pigeonnier was an ideal base to travel from and to walk into the local village. Sue, the owner was on hand if needed with her knowledge of the area and to assist In Local custom? She recommended a few places to visit and we were not disappointed with the results of her advice, she managed to balance our need for help without intruding on our privacy and we left there feeling that we had gained a friend.

Best quiet retreat!

  • 5 of 5

Looking for a quiet, rural retreat? Le Pigeonnier is ideally located, just minutes from all of the major Dordogne sites. The beautifully renovated, spotlessly clean and very well equipped cottage is located on a huge property with fabulous views. This Pigeonnier only accommodates 2 persons and although the first floor kitchen/dining area is a bit small, the upstairs bedroom is very large and airy even with the (super comfortable) king size bed. The owner is charming and very helpful. We had a delightful 10-day stay in mid-September 2015 and would definitely recommend this property.

Absolutely brilliant!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here in August last year for 2 weeks. The property was absolutely perfect for the 2 of us, everything you could want for. It's set in beautiful gardens and we had access to the pool, which we had mostly to ourselves. The owner is lovely, she made us feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. She was there to help if you needed her but gave you privacy when you wanted time alone. The area is lovely and is close to lots of beautiful places to visit. We took bikes to explore the local villages. We had a very restful holiday and enjoyed it so much, we are going back for another 2 weeks this August.

We stayed at the lovely Pigeonnier for a week and we would recommend it to anyone! A beautifully converted building in large grounds, with a lovely swimming pool, boules pitch, badminton and gardens, Le Pigeonnier was equipped with everything we needed for a relaxing week in the sun. Sue is so friendly and welcoming, and was on hand to give us tips and advice on the best places to visit. The house is set in a great area close to a variety of different attractions, all within a half hours drive. We had a wonderful week and hope to be back again someday - thank you Sue!

Charm and character

  • 5 of 5

This unique and beautiful character cottage is in a stunning setting, overlooking valleys and fields, and an easy drive from so many interesting destinations and activities that kept us busy all week. The swimming pool was stunning, and the owner was so friendly and welcoming, which made our stay far more comfortable than a normal hotel or holiday hire. We hope to return soon!

My friend and I rented in August 2012 this charming loft. We found the wonderful site and the home owner made ??us perfect. The place is really nice, located in the heart of a region that combines scenic beauty and friendliness of the people. So much so that we booked again for 2013 ! Tip: If you want to discover this magnificent region, stop at Dovecote Sue!

River beach - Coux rt Bigaroque plage
Car: necessary

Coux et Bigaroque is a beautiful little village nestled in the river valley of the picturesque Dordogne. Its lower part sits right at the edge of a leafy, tranquil section of the river Dordogne. Coux et Bigaroque once belonged to the Bishops of Bordeaux who put the toll station on the river. The 100 years war put an end to this profitable activity as well as to the castle which once overlooked the river and valley. The castle was rebuilt but destroyed again in 1624. Just 2 kms outside the village sits Le Pigeonnier with stunning views across the countryside, a perfect retreat to explore the surrounding region and visit places, such as the medieval town of Sarlat ( 20 minutes away) with it's golden sandstone buildings, restaurants, entertainment and superb market. Stunning bastides such as Belves and Domme are well worth a visit and the near by cave Gouffre de Proumeyssac. Coux et Bigaroque has its own little beach on the river...where you can swim or sunbathe safely. If you like a game of golf there is a couple of 18 hole golf courses nearby, both have good facilities and restaurants. The region itself is well known for its fine wines, so take a tour of one of the many vineyards. If you fancy seeing the sights from the river, pack a picnic and take out a canoe for the day... a relaxing way to see the chateaux, villages and wildlife. If you are a photographer... the early morning mists over the valley are worth getting up for and if painting is your thing you are spoilt for locations.. The village is only 2kms away. But if relaxing by the pool with a good book and a glass of wine is what you are dreaming of ...Le Pigeonnier is waiting for you to enjoy your stay.

The area of The Perigord Noir is a dream for historians, art lovers, Architects, Foodies, wild-lifers, walkers, cyclists and anyone who appreciates the beauty and charm of French country life.... So much so that this region has been used for many locations in films around the world.....including 'Chocolat'...... 'Les Miserables' ...... 'Ever After - a Cinderella story'.. and many more....
