North Captiva is part of the Charlotte Harbor chain, north of Sanibel and Captiva, approximately four miles long and 1/2 mile wide. White sand beaches, shelling and world-class fishing are just some of the treasures this island has to offer. Nature abounds here with regular sitings of dolphins and manatees from the beaches. The 700 acre State Land Preserve provides a sanctuary for many migratory and nesting birds.
From Fort Myers Airport a private shuttle service is available to bring you grocery shoping and deliver you to the ferry. The ferry is approximately 25 minutes. Upon arrival you will be greeted, introduced to the island and taken to our home.
Bob and I live in Vermont. North Captiva provides a great reprieve from our long winters. We owned and operated two adventure travel companies and now have an organic seed garlic farm in Vermont (Green Mountain Garlic).
Cindy Maynard purchased this house in 2006
We both fell in love with North Captiva the moment we stepped on the island. The quiet natural state of the island is unique and refreshing. The beaches are lovely and the wildlife is fascinating. We love to fish and the fishing here is world class.
We have tried to create a clean, open and airy feel though out the house. We have beautiful views in every direction. This a great house for a family vacation. Very well equipped with all the comforts of home. Plenty of space for everyone to spread out and have fun. Enjoy the 2 cruiser bikes to explore the island and the Concept II rowing machine to get some exercise out on the deck!
We left North Captiva yesterday ... it is always hard to leave ... dolphins followed the boat, leaping out of the water as if to say good-bye.
We absolutely LOVED your home!!! Thank you so much for sharing it with us. Would love to rent from you again sometime. Everything was beautiful, clean, well appointed & supplied. Can't say enough good things.
Our first stay at Butterfly Breeze was in March for spring break. We loved it so much that we booked the house again for our family vacation over July 4th. It's the perfect house with wonderful amenities! Very comfortable and beautifully decorated. Kitchen is very well equipped and the living room is the perfect place for everyone to gather. It's just a short walk or quick golf cart ride to the beach. This house had everything we needed for a most excellent vacation. The island is nice and quiet. Butterfly Breeze is the perfect place to relax, chill out and recharge!
There were six of us on a vacation with extended family and this house worked perfectly for us. We had the king bed we needed and one of the bedrooms had two twins which was great also. The decor was so lovely and peaceful, and of the highest quality. With 6 people it was nice to have the two golf carts for added flexibility. We were so close to the beach though, we could easily walk. I liked being on this end of the island, too. It was quieter than being super close to the clubs and the beach was beautiful and sandy. We cooked most nights, but also went to both restaurants and it was fun. Having the screen porch plus the dining room table for family meals gave us a lot of space. Cindy and Bob were wonderful, gracious hosts and we're so thankful they opened their home to us. We couldn't recommend this house more highly and we hope to be able to return in the future.
As a family of 4 we had a relaxing and fun time on the island. Plenty of activities and the house was fantastic. The house had all the comforts we needed. You need only bring a few casual clothes, swimsuits, and groceries.
We had a great family gathering in butterfly breeze. The house was nicely stocked, had comfortable bedding and inviting and open living areas. The location was excellent and we enjoyed all of the club amenities. Thanks for you hospitality homeowners!
Our family of 8 had an incredible time staying at Butterfly Breeze. The home had everything we needed and could want. Nice bedrooms, spacious kitchen, washer and dryer, and incredible living/sunrooms to hang out. The owners were so nice and accomodating. The island is a hidden gem with a great island club and amenities with good restaurants as well. The people all over the island were warm and friendly. Highly recommend this place!
Exactly what we expected and more! Thank you for sharing your beautiful butterfly beach home with others! Tropical, remote island makes it feel like we were really far away, especially with no cars, just golf carts, boats & walking. I also like the fact that there's only 1 television in the whole house so if you want to see a movie or event on TV then everyone congregates upstairs in one, big comfy room! Best sunset views I've seen in a while & I grew up in Florida! Great selection of DVDs, novels & games, plus, wonderful artwork all over the house created by owner. Beds and furnishings were super comfy, but our favorite part was exploring. Getting a fishing guide was the best idea we had with catching over 50+ large snook in the pass. Cindy was very helpful in coordinating our arrival with caretaker/ bellman , "Mr Sherman". It was Definitely a plus to rent a home with membership to the North Captiva Island Club. Their pools and equipment rentals kept everyone active. Our gang kept the local restaurant, Barnacles, in business from cobia fish tacos, lobster mac&cheese to yummy ice cream. If you have a fishing boat, like we do, it pays to make buddies at Barnacles with the mgr or Tyler and ask them to give your boat a "private" slip around back. A little farther driving the golf cart from house than the club's docks, but better overall for your boat- especially on busy holiday weeks like we had. Our favorite boat ride restaurants: Cabbage Key; Tarpon Lodge Restaurant (Pineland Marina) & Gramma Dots (Sanibel Marina)
Walking and great shelling on the beach just at the end of our road as well at the State Preserve beach.
