Manciano House Rental Photos and Description

3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, large living room, dining room and full kitchen

Former a typography, the house is situated in the medieval center of the village of Manciano.

We started renovate our house in 2003 and at the end of the year, this house, dating back to the 16th century became a colourful home combining old and new, with beamed ceilings, stone masonry broken up with white or coloured walls, antique furniture blending harmoniously with the modern pieces.

Entering the large hall, local travertine stone floor and an old piano enrich the environment, while a large linen sofa invites you to relax. From there you pass into the dining room, with its old table sitting 8 and in the colorful and fully equipped kitchen. Bedrooms are 3: a double bedroom with en-suite bathroom, a second cosy room with a bed for two, a children's room and a second large bathroom. From one bedroom and the children room's windows the view is amazing, overlooking the Maremman countryside down to the coast and sea.

About Alessandra Speidel

My name is Alessandra.

Alessandra Speidel purchased this house in 2003

Why Alessandra Speidel chose Area del Tufo

In Manciano I spent unforgettable times with my family and both, me and my husband, would like to give our guests the opportunity to discover the beauty of South Tuscany, even for a short time.

What makes this house unique

My husband and I discovered the charm of Manciano as soon as we stepped into the old town; we were so excited that we decided to live there for some years with our kids.

After only a few months, we started to renovate this house that dated back to 16th Century. At the end of 2003, the former 500 year old typography, turned into our dream home, as the renovation was finalized.

The result is a colourful house combining old and new, with pieces of antique furniture, beamed ceilings, stone masonry broken up with white or coulored walls, local travertine stone floors and wooden floors on bed-and bathrooms, windows looking down to the seaside....

Great holidays

  • 5 of 5

We have lived in Manciano in the end of July - beginning of August. First of all, we loved the house. Big, very comfortable, cosy, beautiful, there you could feel a nice energy or kind spirit, if I can say:). We liked to be inside! I liked art books in the house and art-objects on the walls, I liked everything. Our children were very happy in Manchiano! They liked the house, their badroom, toys, pizza from "Osee", walking around the city (especially going on the top of the city, there a castle is standing), playground.

Manciano is beautiful, charming, there were almost no tourists in July (big difference with a overcrowded cities near the sea and with Pitigliano, for example), and a living in the center of our Manciano has been a very pleasant experience. Very kind people are living in this beautiful city. Everything was closeby: playground, farmacy, grosery, butchery, pescateria (our favourite small shop), bar "Centrale" with ijs-cream and cappuccino, restaurants, very nice wine and cheese shop. Even a hospital with a wonderful doctor has been very closeby.

Of cause, Toscany is picturesque and is an eye candy. And Manchiano with its surroundings were not an exclusion. We especially liked Terme di Saturnua, because it was nearby to our place and there everything was very very nice and convinient for kids. But we always used to come after 16. The whole day there was too much for us. And we started to believe in a holistical effect of a thermal waters:). It worked. We also went to a different beaches. One we liked the best, but it was the furwest one: in the Natural Reservation Park of Maremma. We liked to enjoy wonderful sunsets, and Maremma buffalos are so beautiful, and it was a pleasure for children to spot foxes and reindeers on the way to the beach and back home.

We really enjoyed Sovana, Sorano and Pitigliano. In Pitigliano we have been several times.

I would reccomend this house for everybody who likes peaceful and relaxing vacations, tasty food, beautiful landscapes. And espessially I would reccomend this house and place for families with small children, because somehow this our vacation became relaxing and very peaceful which is difficult to get when you have three small kids. And Alessandra is so kind and helpful!

Perfect home from home

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at Alessandra's home. We are a family of four (2 adults and 2 children - ages 1 and 3 years) and found this property met and exceeded all of our expectations. You cannot park your car out the front of the apartment as it's inside the walls of the old town, but this was no issue, it's just a very short walk and really only adds to the charm of staying in the town. The apartment is located on a hillside so the shops and restaurants are a 2 minute walk down a steep hill.

We were personally met by Alessandra and shown around the property and given tips and ideas on what to see and do in the area.

Handy extras that were available included beach towels, a bag of beach toys and a whole selection of toys and books for the boys.

The apartment is bright, airy and cool with three access doors to the property and a small courtyard. It has a lovely feel about it, infact the boys were happy enough to stay in rather than going out to explore which says something! The walls are adorned with funky artworks and work by local artists.

A few must do's:

- visit Saturnia with it's thermal springs. We went to the public springs (free) on one day and then the following day visited The Saturnia Hotel and Spa (22 euros per adult plus a few extras like 7 euros for a lounge chair and 11 euros for an umbrella) which was great, there is also a playground for the children when you are taking a break from lounging in the spas.

- a trip out to Feniglia National Park on the coast, about 40 mins drive. Walk through a pine forest to the beach and spot some deer hiding in the trees and grazing.

- there is a restaurant at the bottom of the hill from the apartment (I can't recall it's name) but it's entrance is up a few stairs from the street and has a resident parrot called Benvenuto. Lovely food and nice views from the balcony, stop for a gelato before heading back up the hill.

- if you have young children there is also a small playground just a couple of minutes walk from the house.

Overall we had a wonderful stay and would not hesitate in recomending this apartment to anyone considering a visit.

Thank you Alessandra.

Wundervoll renoviert, ruhig, mit Stil eingerichtet

  • 5 of 5

Car: necessary

Manciano, a small medieval village with its narrow streets and its embattled tower, overlooking -from 500 m height- the rolling tuscan hills extending down to the sea. In this area of south Tuscany, called Maremma, 3000 year old paths lead you through vineyards and olive groves to ancient fortresses, hot steaming springs and white sand dunes along the beach.

Perched on a 10 min drive from the Terme di Saturnia and 30 min from the beautiful beaches of the Argentario, it is the ideal destination for those who want to explore an unspoiled area: hiking (nordic walking also) on ancient trails, visiting the etruscan tombs, walking through sunken roads in Sovana, discovering enchanting villages such as Pitigliano, or horsebackriding in the wild countryside, mountain biking and last but not least relaxing in the hot sulphurous waters of the Terme di Saturnia. A perfect golf destination too, thanks to the all year round mild climate, in Saturnia Golf (10') and Argentario Golf Course(40'). But there is also for those who love the art in the Spoerri-Garden in Seggiano and in Capalbio in the Niki de Saint Phalle-Garden.

Don't forget to spoil yourself with local culinary delights and with the ruby red Morellino wine. For a holiday in the round!
