About the owners Doug, Bev, Miranda, and Katie Howland: Doug and Bev were first drawn to Kauai in the early 80’s, after many visits they finally decided to buy this wonderful property in 2006. Doug, a 35-year designer/builder, has spent the last 10 years personalizing the house. Bev, a jack-of-all-trades, has owned a health food store, opened a charter elementary school, run a motel, and managed their various properties over the years. Their youngest daughter Katie lives in Portland with her older sister Miranda. After a career in the arts, she now manages the family’s properties. Doug and Beverly now migrate between their properties in Arizona, Utah, and Hawaii. They like to hike, horseback ride, ski, practice yoga, whitewater raft, dance, and travel in their free time.
They also have vacation rentals in the Escalante Canyons of Southern Utah and in the town of Sedona in Northern Arizona.

Doug and Bev were always drawn to the North Shore, when making the decision to put down roots, they couldn’t resist the best part of the island. They fell in love with the unique beauty of their home that balances both accessibility and seclusion.
There are many amazing natural wonders right out the front door (see above). This home offers the lush mountainous jungle of Kauai out the back door and the soothing beach and ocean out the front door.

This was our first time ever to Hawaii and we picked Kauai and the Hale Beach Home and did we ever make a wonderful decision. The home is beautiful from the clean house to the wonderful sound of the ocean seconds away. Our family of 6 adults stayed there and it was perfect tons of room. I would highly recommend this house to rent.
I can't express how much we enjoyed staying at Hale Aloha! Since the house was unavailable for the first two weeks in July, we rented a house in Hanalei. I've only stayed in Haena for the past 35 years so it was a good chance to see how we liked staying in Hanalei. The answer is, we didn't! It was crowded and very noisy with many of the surrounding houses doing construction of one kind or another. I'm not exaggerating when I say we shed all of our stress the moment we arrived in Haena and Hale Aloha. The adults rejuvenated and the kids thrived for the next two weeks in this beautiful home and idyllic setting. It was another magical stay for us!! We can't wait to return next year and stay for four weeks!
This is a truly wonderful home with 5-star location in Hanae on the breathtaking North Shore. 8 adults plus a baby (none of whom had ever been to Kauai) made this our holiday home for 10 days just before Christmas, having to say "aloha" Jan. 2. By utilizing the fully functional lanai, we had plenty of space. Needing a baby gate (to prevent a tumble down the stairs) and a high chair were no obstacles whatsoever for Beverly...they were both there awaiting us upon our arrival. Even a new-out-of-the box flat screen TV had just been installed. Satellite service enabled us to view all the football bowl games we cared to watch, and the internet connection was rock-solid. The 4 ample bedrooms in the home are most inviting, with tasteful decor throughout. The fresh-air shower was a HUGE hit with all. [There is a second one on the lanai's back deck.] At the other end of the spectrum is a whirlpool spa tub in the Master Suite on the lower level. Not that one would, but if you were to fall off the front porch (a perfect place for evening card games and happy hour), it's only a hop, skip and jump to the beach. In December, surf is up...so you hear that wonderful sound 24/7. Hanalei is only a short drive...and offers shops, dining and farmer markets. Heading the other direction, one can very conveniently arrive at a local Mediterranean restaurant/coffee house, Tunnels Beach, Limahuli Garden & Preserve, and Haena State Park at the north end of the dramatic Napali coast...a hiker's or camper's 6-star destination. Golf, snorkeling, kayaking...literally, any activity offered on Kauai...is within reach.
A truly unique property for a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
My family and I all took a week and a half long trip to the beautiful North Shore of Kauai - 9 adults and a 1 year old. We all had the best of times staying in this house. From all of the details of the decor, to the fully equipped kitchen and all of the beauty that surrounded us, we could have not picked a better place. The location is great for the Na Pali Coast trailhead and any of the North Shore beaches. We traveled all around Kauai and it never really took more than an hour's drive to the South Shore area (we visited in December so waves were rough-- but Annini beach in Princeville is much calmer and not very far, great for children). Hanalei really left an impression and we can't wait to be back!
I HIGHLY recommend to anyone!
My kids gave me a special gift for my 75th birthday. Six of us along with our four year old grandson ,could not have spent a better way to celebrate this event.
The house was perfect, very spacious, and nicely furnished along with all the kitchen amenities.
The beach is right across the street. We have previously stayed at the Plantation Hale condos, but this was much more comfortable.
It is very quiet and is in the most beautiful; part of the island
Six of us spent 10 glorious days at this beautiful house, with 2 more friends staying in the cottage. This was our fourth time in Kauai and all have been on the North Shore and the beautiful town of Hanalei. We love the mountains and the ocean all at the same place.
