Sleeps 2-6: bedroom (2 single beds), living-room (1 sofa-bed & 2 armchair beds)
A recently converted ground-floor stable in a historic 18th-century farmhouse overlooking the sea amid vineyards and olive groves in a rural hamlet now becoming a holiday area because it is near the beach. The apartment has old wooden doors, traditional brick arches and vaulted ceilings, and has been carefully restored in a simple, rustic, open-plan style to respect the original structure of the building. The flat sleeps between 2 and 6 people: a bedroom with two single beds (separated from the living room by screens) and in the living room a sofa-bed and 2 armchair beds. The living room also has a large dining table and seating for 8. There is a big bathroom with washbasin, bath, shower, toilet and bidet; a small kitchen with sink, draining rack, gas hob, cooker hood, microwave oven and fridge-freezer; and a sheltered seating area outside, looking on to the back garden, with a barbecue (shared with the owners when present) and secure parking.
If you book, we will provide you with a comprehensive set of notes supplying information about the flat, our favourite local shops & a list of places we like to visit. On arrival you will find some essential food, mineral water & a bottle of wine so you don't have to go shopping immediately. If we are in residence, you can ask us for any help or advice you may need. When we are not there, a friend (whose phone number we will let you have) stands in for us.

About Robert and Monica Hastings
Robert and Monica are a retired couple. Robert was a Senior Lecturer in Italian Studies at the University of Manchester and Monica was a teacher of English at Withington Girls School. They bought their property in Abruzzo over 40 years ago. In their retirement they spend 3 or 4 months a year there, enjoying the beach, going for walks in the mountains, harvesting the olives, figs, cherries and plums in their garden and visiting places of interest in the surrounding region. Their property has been fully restored, and in addition to the ground-floor flat, converted from an old stable, they also let a converted barn at the bottom of the garden. That too can also be seen on this website.
Robert and Monica Hastings purchased this Apartment in 1976
Why Robert and Monica Hastings chose Province of Chieti
The apartment is well appointed, recently restored and full of character. The beach is less than 5 minutes away by car, and you can be up in the high mountains in about three quarters of an hour. There is golf at Miglianico, just 4 miles away, and skiing in the winter 25 miles away at Passo Lanciano. Abruzzo has a wealth of unspoilt natural scenery, including 3 national parks and one regional park, picturesque hill-towns, castles, ancient abbeys and mountain hermitages, significant Roman remains and an excellent tradition of food and drink, based on natural local ingredients.
What makes this Apartment unique
Conveniently placed for the beach and the mountains, with all necessary facilities (supermarkets, shops, banks, bars, restaurants, etc.) within easy reach, but sheltered and secluded at the same time, in a beautiful rural environment.

Casa rustica molto carina
Massimi ordine e pulizia.
This beautiful restored stable with vaulted ceelings, it´s been a joy to live in it. Even if it´s been up to 36 degrees during the day, the stable has been cool and lovely. The outdoor space is a really plus. The apartment was clean and well maintained, the service is really good. And the owners send you very good long list of the best place to eat, to take a day trip, shop and more. The only ting that draw back the stars, is a very small kitchen.
Spring and summer holidays at Contrada Lazzaretto
We had an amazing family holiday here. It was our second visit, and it never disappoints, whether you come in spring or in summer. The farmhouse flat is lovely: modern in all the right places for convenience, but retaining all the rustic charm of the original stonework. The patio is excellent, and the boys loved the space in the back garden for playing. The location is perfect: just a couple of minutes from the beach by car, where loungers can be hired for just two euros a day, and there are lovely little cafes offering meals very reasonably. The friendly staff at the Punto Verde were great with the kids, and there is a bar for the grown-ups too. There is also an excellent local pizzeria (Toni and Lucia's), where the food is great and the prices ludicrously low. The kids wanted to eat there every night. Perfect accommodation, perfect location, wonderful holiday.
Autumn in Italy
We rented this apartment for a 6 week stay in Italy, and were extremely satisfied. The place was quite typical Italian countryside and very quiet, and the owners were nice to us. The one negative side was that you need car here: couple of restaurants and bars were within comfortable walking distance, for the rest you took couple kilometer drive.
The location is good and easy, only couple of minutes up from the seaside road SS16. The building is full stonework, including beautiful arches inside the house. Large living room opens to large back yard, where we kept the car. Bathroom seemed recently renovated, with separate shower and bath. Kitchen had gas stove, no oven, and a bit short of worktops.
Even as late autumn (October), the weathers were warm and sunny, average 22C and only short rain showers on two days. The summer holiday places were mostly closed, so if you want beaches, keep it to the season. Rome, San Marino and Naples are.on driving distance, and all worth a visit. I can fully recommend this place for short or longer stay on the warm part of the year.
The apartment is less than 5 minutes from the beach by car, about 45 from the mountains, just 20 from Pescara airport, & 2 or 3 hours from those of Rome. It lies midway between the popular seaside resort of Francavilla (which holds a spectacular firework display over the sea in the summer that you can see from near the house) & the medieval port of Ortona with its Aragonese castle, promenade overlooking the port & cathedral reputed to house the remains of St Thomas the Apostle. There too is the Regional Enoteca, where you can taste & buy a wide range of Abruzzese wines or sit over an aperitif & antipasti before dining at one of the town’s excellent seafood restaurants. There are plenty of local shops (excellent greengrocers, butchers, bakers, confectioners, fishmongers, etc.), & supermarkets, bars, restaurants, banks, post offices, petrol stations, some a short walk away, all in easy reach by car. There is an 18-hole golf course at Miglianico, just 4 miles away, & skiing in the winter at Passo Lanciano, 25 miles from the house.
Abruzzo is a region of outstanding natural beauty: sandy beaches, green fields & woods, vineyards, olive groves, steep-sided valleys & towering mountain ranges. It has 3 national parks & one regional park protecting no less than 30% of the region as a whole & is home to falcons, eagles, wolves, bears, wild boar & chamois. In the mountains are rushing torrents, picturesque lakes & caverns filled with stalactites & stalagmites. Abruzzo is also a land of ancient hill-towns, imposing castles, beautiful medieval abbeys and churches, remote mountain hermitages & significant Roman remains. Its people have preserved many colourful traditions & every year each town or village holds its own traditional festival. They have a great tradition of food & wine too, based on simple, natural ingredients. You can eat well & often inexpensively in its many fine & family-run restaurants. So there is something here for everyone & the best thing of all is that most of it is still relatively undiscovered.
