A spacious two bedroom chalet in the mountain village of Planina pod Golico, 25 minutes from Bled. Sleeps 4 in a double and twin room. The chalet is fully self-contained with equipped kitchen, living room, dining space, large foyer, shower-room and WC. Accommodation is on the middle floor, while the upstairs (and basement downstairs) is unoccupied. Beautiful mountain views, a garden, and terrace balcony with table and chairs plus BBQ. Your own transport is recommended. The top floor is unihabited - you will have the whole house to youselves.
From the door, you can hike or cycle through forests & into the Karavanke mountains. There is a chair lift in the village which takes you up to a fabulous Alpine viewpoint and small ski area.
The road through the village is dead-ended so there's almost no traffic, but the expressway is just 5km away down in the main valley. You'll be ideally placed for all the sightseeing: Bled, Bohinj, Kranjska Gora and the Julian Alps are close by. Ljubljana and Klagenfurt airports are both less than an hour away. Restaurants & supermarket 10 minutes drive

We live in UK, but love hiking, so visit the house at least once a year, often in May when all the Spring flowers are in bloom.
Tom Blandford purchased this chalet in 2005
Nestled in the hills, in a small village, hiking from the door.
We visited Planina pod Golico in June 2008. The chalet was situated in a quiet location with a magnificent view of the mountains. The accomodation was spotless and very comfortable, with a fully functioning kitchen. As we had a car, we were easily able to get to Austria and Italy for day trips, and we spent a lovely day visiting Lipice, where the famous Lipizaner horses are bred and trained. We feel that Slovenia is a hidden treasure, as we knew very little about it before we visited. The scenery is wonderful and it is obviously well set up for winter sports, walking and climbing holidays. We would be happy to go back to this property as one week was too short to make the most of it.
We spent a very active-but-peaceful week in the chalet with our three boys (18, 16 and 11 years old). As we all love hiking this was the perfect place for us: so much to do without even having to get in the car! There are many marked trails starting right in Planina pod Golico, and lots of information (maps, guiding books, recommendations) available in the house, which make it very easy to find one's way around.
We found the small (free) map of "Hiking routes in Jesenice municipality" most helpful. Our favorite trail is the one that goes through Jesenice Planina - Klek - Koca-na-Golici. The apple strudel in the mountain-Koca (hut) was especially satisfying after the climb, eaten in the terrace overlooking the valley and mountains...
When our youngest son got a little tired of climbing mountains, a 40 minutes' drive took us to Lake Buhini. A walk around it, and a short swim (even on a chilly day) was very beautiful and relaxing.
In general – the area is extremely beautiful!
The house itself is well kept, very clean, cozy and convenient, with a well-equipped kitchen and a great terrace to sit and relax at (before or after the energetic hiking....)
The supermarket in Jecenice is ten minutes' drive away. We found Spur to be the most reasonably priced one. Pizza Fontana (which is recommended in the guest book) closed down, but Oaza Bistro in Jesenice serves huge, tasty, inexpensive pizzas.
We would love to return - so much more to see and do!
Can't find anything wrong with this house. It has a good "feel" to it, it's cosy, well equipped and has a wonderful terrace.
The nearest town of Jesenice is a bit of a disappointment though. Best avoided.
We had a delightful stay in this beautifully kept Alpine Chalet in Slovenia. Such a treat to be so close to Lake Bled and all the other wonderful sights to experience.
The Nicholson Family
Our family of four (2 adults / 2 children aged 6 and 4) had a fantastic stay at this chalet in Planina Pod Golico.
The chalet was clean and well maintained and is in a lovely part of Slovenia, close to the Austrian border. The village is very attractive, but is peaceful and quiet with a couple of bars / restaurants.
We did lots of swimming in the lakes nearby (Bled about 30 mins); Lake Bohinj was our favourite. We visited Ljubljana by train from Jessenice, very hot but great city. We didn't do any big trips so no Venice or Piran (hopefully next time!) but lots of small trips in the area. We particularly enjoyed Radlovljica; had our favourite meal at a restaurant that looked over the valley, stumbled across a festival and went to the excellent bee museum.
Great walking and bike opportunities from the door.
Would definitely recommend this chalet. Tom answered comprehensively all our questions and was a great help in planning our week.
Thanks for a great stay.
We have with our families, parents and two children (15 and 16 years), a wonderful week in this house.
The location of the house is lovely, nice view, quiet and sheep in the garden. The decor is simple but good.
Everything was very clean and the kitchen was well equipped. We felt right at home.
We read in an earlier review that the ringing of the church gave a lot of noise. We had no inconvenience from it.
We had ordered food package upon arrival, it was fine. Wonderful that it could.
The area was mountainous, we made some beautiful walks. In the house you can find information on hikes and other outings.
From this place you can enjoy nature and the tourist sights such as Bled, Ljubljana and Lake Bohinj. In the evening we had a delicious barbecue on the terrace.
So we recommend this house.
Planina pod Golico is in the heart of the Gorenjska Alpine region of North-West Slovenia midway between Bled and Kranjska Gora. From the terrace of the flat you look out over the village and church to forested hills, and in the distance, the Julian Alps. Access to the house is easy with the expressway linking you to Austria and Ljubljana about 15 minutes away, down in the main valley. Despite the proximity to main routes, the village is hidden away in the hills, with no sign of the hectic modern world! Both Ljubljana and Klagenfurt airports are less than an hour by expressway. The chalet is in the village of Planina pod Golico, however the nearest neighbour is about 300m away and the house is not overlooked making it very private. The village sits in a beautiful hanging valley about 900m up into the Kaminške mountain range (or Karavanke), which stretches along Slovenia's northern border with Austria. Surrounded by the forested peaks of Golica and Klek.
Other Activities: sightseeing, scenic flights, gliding, rock climbing, caving, canyoning, kayaking, rafting, hunting, via-ferrata, ice-skating, casino, massage.
Golf: Bled Golf Course is 20 minutes drive. A fabulous 18 hole par 73 course set in some of most beautiful mountain scenery in Europe.
Ski: There's a ski lift and ski runs less than 5 minutes walk from the chalet (but not open every day). If you need to hire equipment, the main resorts are only a short drive away. Kranjska Gora, Vogel, Kobla and Bled ski resorts are each 25-40 minutes by car, where you can hire skis and take lessons. Skiing in Slovenia is ideally suited to beginners, with plenty of easy runs and excellent well-renowned ski schools.
There are plenty of cross-country ski areas around Bled. Zaternik or Pokljuka are the most popular, where you can glide through the forests with views through the trees to the Julian Alps. The Cross-country Skiing World Cup is held between Lake Bohinj and Bohinj Bistrica.
Slovenia is also famous for its ski jumping at Planica, where the World Cup is held and Olympic ski jumpers can be seen practicing.
