Rick, a gifted musician is usually performing nightly or daily. Algiers continues to be a home and haven for musicians, writers, artist, and snowbirds. A state of the art recording studio can be reserved in the neighborhood. Rick enjoys mentoring at jazz camp or hosting up-and-coming international proteges. Barbara’s creativity and candid knowledge of the New Orleans’ scene will keep you coming back. This amazing couple met and fell in love while working on the Mississippi Queen Riverboat sailing up and down the river from New Orleans to St. Paul Minnesota and have celebrated over thirty years of bliss traveling the world of music and friends and residing in New Orleans. Catch the amazing sunset, New Orleans skyline and the mighty Mississippi River with the locals on the levy directly across from Old Point Bar. You may borrow our bikes and enjoy miles of paths along the levy or walk to the historic Hubbell library. Ride the ferry over to New Orleans to the Canal Street outlet mall, Aquarium, Insectarium, Harrah’s Casino or take the streetcar to Café du Monde in the French Quarter or uptown to the Audubon Zoo, passing through the famous Garden District on St. Charles. Seldom do we endure any winter; the fire pit, porch and two decks are a charming retreat or opportunity to spur your creativity. With Rick and Barbara you will always capture a little something extra and his repertoire is much like gumbo, a blend of Western European, African, Caribbean and North and South Americas’ influences. Contact Rick or Barb to secure your vacation rental and you are guaranteed lagniappe and a gumbo of local cuisine, music, and art.

Why Barbara Trolsen chose Algiers
We've always dreamt of living in a quaint neighborhood just outside a big city. Well, our dream came true when we found Old Algiers. Young and old alike, family friendly, as well as plenty of "watering spots" in the neighborhood, and a venue that has music 5 night's a week, close to a recording studio with easy access to the French Quarter via a Ferry ride across the "Big Muddy Mississippi River".... Idyllic
What makes this Apartment unique
The people in our neighborhood are about as friendly as you would ever imagine! To walk up on the levy is a magical experience, giving you a picturesque view of Downtown New Orleans, the Riverboats, Cruise Ships and Freighters.

First time staying in Algiers Point, ... & now I'm hooked. It is quite the contrast from the loud, noisy nights spent in the French Quarter. At the end of a long day seeing the sites across the water, I was ready to hop on the ferry and get back to this laid back neighborhood. Barb and Rick are AWESOME hosts. They have created such a magical place. Their charming backyard porch and gardens is soooo inviting. Great place to wind down in the evening or to begin your mornings. The house has everything you need. The decor is artsy and fun. I ❤️ this place! The locals are friendly and helpful. Algiers Point is so unique...a step back in time, where life seems to slow down. Stroll the streets, sip some coffee at the cute cafes, or grab a cold one at the local watering hole. This neighborhood and the community will not let you down. Enjoy!!!
Our stay was great! The house was in the perfect location to have some quiet time in a nice, peaceful neighborhood and just a quick jaunt across the way is the hustle and bustle of the French Quarter!
Perfect little house
Great house, Barb and Rick are fantastic hosts. The backyard is a very tranquil relaxing place for your morning coffee or evening cocktail. Easy walking distance to the ferry that takes you straight to the French Quarter. I will be sure to come back.
A tranquil place near the heart of New Orleans
Rick and Barb are hands down the best hosts we've ever had. Their shotgun home accommodation has a comforting New Orleans vibe, is clean and offers all of the amenities of home. The location Algiers Point offers some nice restaurants, bars and is just a 5 minute walk to the ferry. Our favorite time spent in New Orleans was simply sitting out on their tranquil back porch with a nice drink and chatting with our awesome hosts. Rick and Barb have some great stories to tell and they will also give you recommendations of things to do and see in the area that only a local would know.
This will be our go-to place from now on any time we make a trip to New Orleans.
Little slice of paradise on Algiers Point!
What a perfect experience. Barb and Rick's house was exactly what we were hoping for! We felt like locals instead of tourists during our stay. The ferry was convenient and inexpensive although we took a few Ubers and cab trips too (not super expensive either). I slept better than I ever have in a hotel! We were treated like visiting friends. Very great attention to detail with the art, books, and music and they have absolutely everything you need and even a few things you might have forgotten. The quick tour of the area helped us get our bearings. Make sure to visit The Old Point and the Crown & Anchor. Also, grab some snacks and wine at the market just a few doors down and save some time for relaxing in the back. You will be thankful you did.
The place was so cute. Barb and Rick were welcoming and went out of their way to make sure we had whatever we needed and answer any questions. Algiers is a lovely town where so many local restaurants are within easy walking distance.
