Just a few miles south of the Sonoma Plaza, on a lazy bend in Sonoma Creek, rows of chardonnay vines soak up the Northern California sun. Inside a nearby redwood barn, barrels crafted from oak, forests half a world away are filled with wines from last year's harvest. Come and enjoy a unique, private, comfortable and relaxing stay at A Captain's House, located on the property of Larson Family Winery.
A Captain's House is a wonderful Civil War era Farmhouse, located on a working winery and located amid 70 acres of vineyards. Private, yet open and spacious, the House features four bedrooms, and two full baths. The gourmet kitchen is fully appointed, and the living areas are equipped with such amenities as a flat screen TV, telephone and internet access. The backyard is an inviting country setting with many mature trees and Sonoma Creek just beyond. A barbeque, many sitting areas and an arbor with a picnic table and hundred year old grapevines, provide gathering areas and guarantees that guests will experience wine country at its best. There is also access to a regulation size bocce ball court.
The house is across from the Tasting Room and Winery. It is located just ten minutes south of the Sonoma Plaza, in the western reaches of the Los Carneros appellation and has easy access to Napa, just a quick 20 minute drive, and San Francisco, 45 minutes away.
We just returned from our family holiday trip to Sonoma / Napa, and this home was perfect for our family of 5. On the day we arrived we were greeted by two of the Larson's sweet Labs, Pete and Buster. We headed straight to the winery for a tasting and light picnic. The grounds are gorgeous! We played corn hole with the kids while sipping wine and taking in the beautiful scenery. We loved learning about the history of the property and A Captain's House, which is modern but still maintains many original features. The home was spacious and clean, and the outdoor area was beyond our expectations, with a beautiful outdoor eating area (under the pergola), a couple of seating areas - one on the porch and another by the creek - as well as a small, nicely manicured lawn where we played corn hole and bocce ball. The home is located on a working winery, so there's a lot of hustle and bustle during the day, however at night it was peaceful and quiet. We fired up the wood stove at night, played cards and made dinner in the well appointed and well stocked kitchen. When dining out, don't miss The girl & the fig in Sonoma Plaza...be sure to ask for a table on the patio. We highly recommend this home to anyone looking for a unique, family oriented, fun place to stay in wine country.
Becky and the whole Larson clan made our stay so enjoyable. We rented this house for my sister's wedding weekend and it was just perfect! Becky was so accommodating and kind. The house has plenty of space and the grounds are beautiful! It was so fun to enjoy the winery just right across the street. A wonderful experience- thank you for everything!
I rented this home for my husband's birthday and his six bike riding buddies. Everyone raved about the house, location and hospitality of the host. The bike riding, on-site wine tasting, nearby restaurants, etc., were wonderful. The house was clean and well equipped for hanging out and cooking. Would definitely rent this house again!
This is a fabulous central spot. It's quiet when it needs to be but during the weekend daytime there is plenty of activity at the tasting room across the way.
The staff are all very friendly, and the house is quaint and charming. It's old but not tired - the bedrooms all feel from a different period, the plumbing is quite noisy for example - but the kitchen is renovated and great to cook in.
The labs are all friendly and we had wonderful bbq breakfasts outside on the deck under the grapevine pergola.
Will definitely be back.
I originally booked the house for a girls weekend, and ended up hosting a small bridal shower instead (long story). Becky was very accommodating and the outdoor area around the house is perfect for games, food, and a few rounds of cornhole.
There are three labs that live on the winery, and they are so sweet and gentle! They came over to spend time with us every day, and got LOTS of belly rubs!
We brought portable fans with us because we were expecting hot weather, and they turned out to be a lifesaver, as it can get pretty warm in the house.
Other than that, the kitchen had everything we could possibly need to cater for our group, the rooms were comfortable, the winery is awesome, the house is charming, and we had a very pleasant stay. Would absolutely recommend!! : )
My friends and I, all in our early 30s, could not have found a more perfect spot to spend time together. The house was comfortable, clean, and had everything we needed. Having the winery steps away was ideal, and the staff were incredibly knowledgeable, attentive, and friendly. We look forward to renting the property again in the future!
