We're both former working professionals from Rochester, NY who chose to retire to the St. Lawrence River. It's a great choice!
Nancy purchased this cottage in 1995
We had been visiting the Thousand Islands for nearly 15 years before purchasing property here in 1995. We enjoy the simplicity and natural beauty of the area. The wonderful St. Lawrence River offers us joy - and success - when we fish, swim, ski, raft and relax. We NEEDED to be here!
If you and your family enjoy summer activities, especially water activities, Williams Cove can provide a wonderful setting. Our cottage provides an on-site dock for your boat - up to 24' - and an attached sundeck, table, chairs and sun umbrella. All you need are sunglasses, a cooler - and a camera! Great views of Crossover Island, directly across from the cottage.
Our family spent a beautiful week at the Blind Bay Cottage. The owners are fantastic and will do anything for you. The weather was great and so was the fishing. We hope to go back next year.
We so enjoyed our visit to Blind Bay and the Thousand Islands region last month. The cottage was adorable, the views fabulous, the weather was gorgeous and the hospitality of Nancy and Art made us feel at home. My husband and I and our two teens found it a perfect setting to hang out and relax and also to use as a launching point for our adventures. We were traveling quite a distance and the welcome we received from the homeowners made us feel like family.
We loved going down to the dock each day and swimming around and watching the sunset every night. Other highlights were visiting Clayton and the Antique Boat museum and taking a tour of Boldt Castle and the Islands on the Clayton Island Boat Tours. We also enjoyed Wellesley Island and Thousand park. If you have a passport we also recommend going up in the tower to see the islands. Singer Castle was nearby and also exciting to see.
We found everything we needed in the cottage and the homeowners went out of their way to be sure that we enjoyed our stay! The cottage is very comfortable but might be a little tight if you have more than four adult-size people. Just right for us. It would also not be easy to enjoy the dock if you are unable to do stairs. If you want complete privacy and isolation this might not be a good choice for you as the homeowners house and another rental are right next door on either side. However, we found we had plenty of privacy and everyone was very respectful.
We would definitely return and hope to someday. We feel like Nancy and Art are now friends and we would love to see them again!
Beautiful cottage located just a few steps to the river. Short driving distance to a lot of restaurants and shops to explore while visiting. The deck is so relaxing we enjoyed just sitting outside watching the boats go by. The house is inviting and comfortable, and even tho the renters are on the property you would never know they are there. It's nice to know if you have questions or emergency there are close by to answer questions! We will definitely be back with our families soon.
My family and I have stayed at this cottage 6 times in the last 9 years and have just booked our 7th stay and we can't wait to go back! The cottage is charming, very well maintained and very clean. The location is fantastic, it is very quiet, picturesque, peaceful and only a short drive to A-bay, which has most anything you could want in restaurants and souvenir shops. A few steps down to the rivers edge there is a sun deck and a dock that accommodates my 23 1/2 foot boat very well. We have stayed in a few other cottages in the area but no one makes us feel more welcome than Nancy and Art. Their house is also located on the site but you almost wouldn't know they were there unless you needed something, then they couldn't be more accommodating! All you need to do is ask and it seems they will do anything to make your stay as nice as possible.
My husband and I recently returned from Blind Bay. The cottage was adorable, clean, and well equiped. The owners, Nancy and Art were very friendly and helpful. When we first arrived, we were surprised to see that our cottage was not on the river. There was a huge rock and the owners residence in front of the cottage. They were on the river. We did have views on each side, but not what we expected. There was a beautiful swim deck and dock, but you had to walk around and under the owners private deck then down many stairs. Even though the owners did nothing to make us feel uncomfortable, we still felt as though we were intruding in their personal space. We feel that it should of been disclosed that we would be sharing vacation space with the owners. My husband was not even able to enjoy a cigar outside on our deck. It was not allowed. It was quiet and peaceful there, but a good driving distance to restaurants, shops etc. I just don't want anybody else to get the impression that your right on the river.
My husband already did a review but I also wanted to add that our youngest son has Type 1 Diabetes and one day was having such bad diabetes issues that if we hadn't started turning it around we would have had to taken him to the hospital. I knew there were 2 hospitals in the area but in different directions. When I asked Nancy which one was closer she told me that if he we had to take him to call them and that they would drive us there safely while we tended to our son. To me that goes above and beyond and shows what caring, nice people they are. We had an excellant, relaxing time and have since put a horse shoe pit in our backyard as our boys loved it so much !! All 3 of our sons hated to leave and really want to go back next year, which says alot, especially for 16 year olds :) I highly recommend staying here !!!
With three golf courses within 20 miles, Williams Cove at Blind Bay is a hole-in-one area for those who love to play. The Municipal Course is in Alexandria Bay, hilly, 3, 4 and 5-hole course that's always fun.
In the opposite direction, heading north toward Ogdensburg, is the St. Lawrence Course, a delightful 9/18-hole course with views of the River as you play. Unless you're an accomplished walker, grab a cart - prices are very reasonable and the course is enjoyable.
Closest course to Williams Cove at Blind Bay? That's Langbrook, a full 18-hole course that will challenge your long drive as well as your putting skills. It's a right-hand turn off Rt. 12, about 6 miles when going north.
For more details, just ask - we've played all of these courses many times.
