About Russ Abney
I was born and raised in small town in rural Georgia. In middle school my family moved to St. Charles, Mo. and then to Huntington Beach, CA. I attended Berkeley for Undergrad and returned to GA for law school (Go Dawgs!). I worked in Texas for over 15 years before relocating to Atlanta. My wife, Aileen, was born and raised in Tokyo and attended college at Wellesley. She initially worked for a Japanese Company (Recruit) in New York and then relocated to Houston shortly after we met. We have two girls , 17 years and 13 .
Russ Abney purchased this Cabin in 2007
Why Russ Abney chose Copperhill
We live in the Atlanta area; about an hour and a half from the cabin. We found the cabin during a beautiful winter weekend getaway in 2007 while Aileen was recovering from breast cancer surgery. We fell in love with the tranquility of the place and our children loved playing in the river and living among nature. We bought the cabin a month or so later. I love the world class whitewater that is available in the area and enjoy introducing people of all skill levels to the local rivers. The people of North Georgia and the Copper Basin Area are down to earth, good hearted people. This is the place for people that love the outdoors but don't love roughing it.
What makes this Cabin unique
As you have probably seen, there are hundreds of cabins available in this area. I have seen none that match the river experience of Canoe Cruise. There are no hills or stairs, or roads or railroad tracks between you and the river. There are no busy road or nosy neighbors; the Ocoee River is in your back yard and you will have it all to yourself. You will at home when you drive down the driveway and you will feel immersed in nature the whole time you are here. The quality of this place shows from the beautiful woodwork to the tranquil view of the river. And it is easy to get to. Located half way between Copperhill and Ducktown only 1/2 mile off of Highway 68, there are no dangerous mountain roads or drives with blind switchbacks. The access is flat and straight, making it an easy drive year-round.

Wonderful Vacation Spot
A great house in a good location. Easy access to dining and grocery. Property owner communication was outstanding. Would definitely recommend and hope to return next year!
It was everything listed on the site . Very nice cabin and beautiful location. Quite and secluded
The owner was very informative and stayed in touch thru text all weekend making sure we didn’t need anything and that all was well
Beautiful secluded cabin. Included everything we needed for family fun.
The whole experience was a breeze from booking to check out! Constant quick communication with owner and very friendly. The property was beautiful and well maintained. The only issue was the the yard was not able to be used to our expectations as Canadian Geese came by 2x a day and deposited all over the lawn in huge amounts.
Heaven on Earth!
The location of the property was beautiful and secluded, yet in a good location for activities away from the house. The river was so much fun for paddleboards and floats. Property manager was very easy to work with, which made the stay even more pleasant. We could not have asked for more when a bald eagle flew down the river one morning!
Linda - delighted your group had such a good time. Thank you for taking the time to leave such a nice review.
Quick Family Vacay
We have a family of 9 — 3 couples and 3 adult children. It was perfect for us! We had a blast playing volleyball, badminton and horseshoes in the yard!
Our cabin sits on the banks of the Ocoee River and is conveniently located between Copperhill, TN and Ducktown, TN. While enjoying activities at the cabin you will feel a hundred miles from anywhere, but you will be minutes from everything in the area: whitewater on the Ocoee, ziplining, shopping, spa treatments, golf and more.
