The villa is very spacious (280 square metres), well maintained and is a perfect situation for people who want space to relax. The villa is set in private grounds and is in a quiet and secluded village offering access to lots of local amenities and things to do nearby.
The garden is very large (7,000 square metres), providing space at the back for a decent sized football pitch (30m x 25m) with two goals. It also has an orchard with fruit and walnut trees.
Set in the front garden there is a large private, secure swimming pool that is 12.5m x 5m with a patio area to sit.
At the front of the house the lounge opens out onto another terrace with space to barbecue and sit and eat.
We have a few (not very well maintained) bicycles that you are free to borrow to ride around the country lanes.
www.labelleauberge.com is 300m away and is a wonderful and very inexpensive restaurant where you can sit outside in summer and enjoy the most fabulous food.
We bought the house ten years ago to enjoy holidays with friends and our young family. We often visit with other families and the villa is large enough that 10 people can stay very comfortably.
We chose the location because being in the south of France near the Spanish border the climate is great.
Within 45 minutes you can either drive to the best surfing beaches in Europe at Biarritz or within 1.5 hours you can be at the top of the Pyrenees skiing at 1,850 metres. The mountains and the beaches offer lots of other activities at different times of year. Being within easy reach you can enjoy a bit of both.
If you want to go on other trips you can easily get to Pamplona, San Sebastian or Bilbao in Spain, or head up Les Landes to Bordeaux or east towards Carcassone.
Being the area of France that heralded the 17th century King Henry IV, there are lots of Chateuaux and historical sites to visit. The pilgrimage to Compostello follows the river and passes a few hundred metres from the house, and Salies-de-Bearn a beautiful medieval village is just 7km away. Lourdes, set in the foothills of the Pyrenees is less than an hour away.
The house is set in the countryside, with a beautiful river that offers some of the best fly fishing and rafting experiences you can find.
Being France, the food and wine is abundant and fresh, and this part of France is especially famous for its gastronomy.
Whether you want to keep yourself very busy or chill out, we hope you will find Villa St Jean to be as perfect as we do.
Lovely large house with massive garden. Terrace and swimming pool particularly enjoyable on sunny days. Very quiet location in small village with marvellous family run hotel and restaurant at less than five minutes walk. Well positioned for walking, cycling and river swimming. Will definitely consider returning.
This is the fourth time we have stayed "chez Levi" (at the request of my 4 children). The house is very well equipped (particularly the kitchen), unlike the usual holiday let which has just 6 of everything...). The pool is fantastic and is enough to keep everyone amused for a few days. Salies is a 10 minute drive where there are plenty of restaurants and shops. However the Auberge which is a 5 minute walk away serves really nice food at a very reasonable cost.
We have not found problems with mosquitoes except at dusk. There are meshes on the windows so you can have the windows open at night.
All in all very comfortable, spacious and lots of everything you need with a lovely covered terrace overlooking the pool.
We enjoyed two weeks at Villa St Jean. The house is spacious and airy with comfortable rooms and beds. The kitchen is well equiped, the garden offers lots of space for the children to run around and the pool is a great size and treated with a salt system rather than chlorine which is much more pleasant.
We enjoyed the surrounding area and found visiting Bayonne, Biarittz, St Jean de Luz and San Sebastian all easy for a day out. The local nearby restaurant is also a bonus offering good food and only a walk away and it was also easy to drive to the nearest baker for croissants for breakfast. We also enjoyed walking to the nearby river to swim and picnic and enjoyed a canoeing trip nearby. A great base for a really varied family holiday.
In the South West of France ideally situated between the beaches and the mountains. Lots of medieval towns surround the area providing a picturesque backdrop with plenty to visit. Whether you like surfing, quiet secluded coves, sailing, waterskiing or walking and hiking in the mountains there is an abundance of outdoor activities and
lots of restaurants including an excellent Auberge 100 yards away.
Go white water rafting, canoeing or salmon fishing on the Gave de Bearn that flows through the village and runs safely 200m behind the house.
Golf, Tennis, Waterskiing, Sailing and Horse Riding are all available within 10 minutes by car.
Surfing or swimming on the beaches of Biarritz is about 45 mins away. Lots of water parks and other activities are available at the coast.
The Pyrenees mountains provide all sorts of hiking, rock climbing, skiing and other action sports.
