About Jane Royston
I grew up in Switzerland in England, and I've spent most of my adult life in Switzerland. I married into a Swiss family who come from the tiny mountain village of Aeschi, and Halteweidli is their family home. I serve as director on a number of high-tech companies, and four charities, and live near Geneva. I have two wonderful daughters.
Jane Royston purchased this Chalet in 2011
Why Jane Royston chose Aeschi bei Spiez
The chalet was the dream chalet my in-laws built when they retired. They had always walked along the trail that passes the chalet, and had always sat in the meadow where it is built for their picnic, dreaming of one day being able to build their house there. And that is exactly what they did. I bought the chalet in 2011 and have renovated it completely: replaced the roof completely, putting triple glazed windows in, changing the bathrooms, and putting in solar heating.
What makes this Chalet unique
The chalet has to be seen and lived in to believe. It is really unique. It has amazing views from all sides. A sweeping view of the Thunersee and all the mountains on one side, and right down the Kandertal on the other side, through big bay windows make you feel as if you're in paradise every time you look out. As it's set completely on it's own (400m from the nearest house), at the end of a long private lane, deer, foxes, squirrels, quietly grazing or walking nearby, and it is a perfect antidote to the stressful life I live.

Highly recommended for an active holiday.
Great location with stunning views. The property has all you need for a short or longer summer break. We had 2 weeks and still had plenty of unexplored places we could have visited. Good communication with the owner, who provided exceptionally detailed instructions and advice.
Great place with beautiful views
Had a big family party and despite the relentless rain we had a really good time. The children loved the place, it was really child friendly. Could recommend it for big family or like us extended family.
Great location for excursions to any part of Switzerland
We had and excellent time at the Chalet. It is sometimes difficult to know 100% from pictures and descriptions but the chalet lived up to all our expectations. Clean, great views of mountains and meadows on all sides. Convenient location to do excursions to almost anywhere in Switzerland. Can't wait to do a repeat visit. Didn't want to leave!
So glad you had such a good time Eric - and we can’t wait to see you again too!
We enjoyed our stay at the property with a family of 15 persons. It is located at awsome hill and has excellent surroundings of grass fields and natural landsacpe. Only the problem is its connectivity with Local bus and timing of local transport as the last bus from the nearest train station, Spiez is at 7;30 pm and you have to catch it anyhow as no other transportation is available. But the property is great value for money and it has all the amenities and utensils for a big family. We enjoyed a lot there. There was some communication problem with the owner and some check in problem but the overall it was good experience.
Great place for a vacation in Switzerland
We spent 2 weeks at the chalet. Including 4 children ages 5 to 8.
The chalet is well equipped. We enjoyed home brewed expressos and had most of our meals on the deck facing the wonderful views.
We used our tourist passes for free rides on the bus going as far as Thun.
Visitors from the USA.
Exactly as described everything you could possibly need and amazing views from every window.
party of 8 Australian's spent an amazing Christmas in this chalet in the mountains. Perfect location for some down time mid holiday around UK and Europe. Jane was a great host and her communication was excellent.
Christmas in the snowy mountains is particularly magical!
Like choosing your own Christmas tree to cut down and bring inside or being in the heart of the Christmas Story Trail.
So glad you had such a good time, and I hope the rest of your trip goes well.
Located on the outskirts of Aeschi bei Speiz, our chalet offers the perfect setting for exploring some of the worlds’ best skiing in the Winter (Wengen, Adelboden, Lauterbrunnen, Kandersteg, Gstaad, Grindelwald) and offers extensive walking in the Summer.
The chalet is set quite on its own, and backs onto the Suldtal nature reserve, making it a perfect setting for outdoor activities including hiking, climbing and mountain biking.
There are plenty of opportunities to enjoy water sports including sailing, windsurfing and white water rafting on or near Lake Thun. There are also several golf courses nearby. The towns of Bern, Thun, Interlaken, Gstaad, are within easy reach and are great for sightseeing, shopping and packed with museums, art galleries and other attractions. And of course, the Top of Europe train to the top of the Jungfrau is a real must!
The nearest airport is Bern just 30mins away, otherwise Zurich or Geneva airports are also within easy reach.
The bus stop is almost at the end of our private lane, about 500m from the chalet.
