About Simon Michael
I retired from my career as a lawyer in 2016 to write crime novels, most of which have been written in this lovely house. All my kids have now flown the nest, but all have enjoyed holidays here with their friends, and still return annually for the Marciac Jazz Festival. I now split my time between the UK and Gascony.
Simon Michael purchased this House in 2012
Why Simon Michael chose Viozan
We have restored the property to high standards, commensurate with using it as a family home , which is what it is for most of the year. It is unpretentious but comfortable, with ensuite facilities for all the bedrooms. The separate gite is linked to the house but can be completely self-contained, with its own shower, WC and kitchenette facilities. It's perfect for older children or teenagers who want some space from the adults.
What makes this House unique
Very few small peaceful villages in France have their own bar, restaurant and boulangeries, but Viozan does. The food is simply superb and very cheap (with the emphasis on duck, goose and Armagnac). Two small towns are within 20 minutes' drive, each with its own farmers market, supermarkets and other shops, tennis courts, kayaking and other activities. The International Marciac Jazz Festival is a 35-minute drive away and is a must for the food, the music and the craic. If you like street dancing and street food, the Tempo Latino Festival at Vic Fezensac is for you. And Spain's an hour's drive away. So, while the house is secluded and in a very peaceful village, there's plenty of exciting good food, music and dancing to be found if you want it. Perfect for family or large-group holidays.

Great property overall a great stay, couple of issues due to one guest infirmities the pool was not usable for them as access and entry a challenge . Plus if one had known TV availability nonexistent, overcome with Laptop, required a cable to view on TV.
A tranquil escape
Simply lovely. A quiet village setting opposite the church. We grew very fond of hearing the church clock chiming (it does stop at night). The house is well-equipped and the pool area is excellent with lots of space. Had a fabulous holiday visiting local places (Lourdes and Toulouse are a must). Also lovely days relaxing by the pool. Good advice from the owner on keeping the shutters closed on hot days to keep the house cool. Great being so close to the boulangerie (2 min walk) and L'Entre-Potes restaurant virtually next door is not to be missed for superb lunches and evening meals at great value. We've used Homeaway for French holidays for a number of years and this is definitely one of the better properties and would recommend highly.

Gascony, the former name for this part of France and the birthplace of d'Artagnan, is said to have has more chateaux per square km than any other French department, though they are often small and little more than grand family homes. The countryside is endlessly varied, with hidden rivers and streams winding though woods, unexpected river valleys full of sunflowers and empty roads snaking through tunnels of trees. You'll often encounter deer, wild boar, badgers and other wildlife crossing these country lanes in front of you, and the woods and skies are full of a wide variety of birdlife. In addition to that in the village, there are several first-class restaurants within 20 minutes' drive, all offering classic Gascon food (duck and Armagnac featuring heavily!).
